Glad to see the Royal Cheese, I mean the World Famed put out those sparklers they wore on their hats last year. And I guess I'm gonna have to stop calling them the Royal Cheese, because they got rid of those cheesy yellow chicken feathers. Now if we could only work on those hospital shoes and all that dang wiggling. Just out of control. The dancers were dancing, the Drum majors jumping around, and the rest of the band just wiggling and wiggling, all at the same time. Just looks like mass confussion.
Gram tries to play the more up to date songs, but it's you guys style..."Shot Son". It's just not smooth. It looks so unorganized. It doesn't just flow smoothly and crisply like the Jukebox's shows.
In the future, try and have a plan when you go out on the field. You cannot just go out there and use the FORCE, wiggle a while, poorly play modern day song, walk around really, really fast in no paticular direction, and hope for everything to workout.
Just a suggestion. You always want to give some guidence to your little brothers and sisters.

I THOUGHT I heard Carribbean on the Classic over the tube. I even heard Grambling's bones playing an Ocean trombone fanfare that's been here since '92. yes, that fanfare. Everyone knows that that fanfare is the OLDEST fanfare still in play at TxSou in the bone section. Want to know something else? Grambling, you only played HALF of it because you'd have to know Ellis or Will Thomas (who wrote it) to know the rest of it. 
Anyway, I watched the whole Classic on TV trying to rest out this pulled bicep. (Don't lift weights with a friend. Talking will get you hurt) But IMHO opinion: Southern's halftime show was a little better than Grambling's. Grambling has stepped up.....minus the girls...who looked good but couldn't dance and should NOT have been wearing those unis from the 70's. SU's sound was much better than Gramblings on the field but Grambling didn't sound BAD like in the past. I don't know why the camera always seems to get that one spasming, jerking b-tone player from Gram on the break downs. It seems like it's always the same dude popping his whole world at the camera EVERY YEAR. :retard:
In the stands SU sounds amazing. Their trumpets stood out, along with their bones. French horns were aight but waaaaaaaaay out of tune for SU's sound. They were pointed a little away from the mics so that could be part of it. Anyway, on TV the game looked better in Reliant with the lighting and grass field. It saddens me of all the New Orleans people complaining about the game being here in Houston. That's uncalled for. You needed a place and the city provided it. Houston isn't trying to get the classic forever....I mean really, we have the rodeo and CONCERT SEASON for that but oh well. big ups to GSU on the improvement but not the stolen fanfare and Carribbean Queen. Because I KNOW folk from GSU have said that Neck isn't an Ocean staple before. (which it is but oh well) My telephone conversations this fall with some peeps confirmed what I believed to be true, SU was on another level and GSU has come up.

GSU played "Call Tyrone"...and that meant their 97 band was better than SU 97 band....
I know very stupid, but go figure.....
Many of us REAL bandheads been trying to understand that 97 fiesco...I was in 97 SU band....but hey...GSU only cares about taking the crowd...

Also, when they interviewed Gram's DM on tv, when asked who won, he said, "well, both bands did alright"??? :smh: If it were me, I think I would have said something like "we waxed they azz".

The 32nd Annual Battle of the Bands, featuring the Southern University Human Jukebox and the Grambling State University Marching Tigers, was a celebration of musical rivalry Friday night.
The winner of the Battle of the Bands gained bragging rights for a year, even before today's 1 p.m. kickoff of the Bayou Classic between Southern's Jaguars and the Grambling Tigers at Reliant Stadium.
The battle of the bands is, traditionally, settled by which of the crowds from the two Louisiana colleges cheers the loudest.(southern has a bigger student body)
And it was a sell-out at the stadium, where the crowd from Southern was somewhat larger and slightly louder than the diehards from Grambling.
But proud graduates of both colleges admit the competition is more about school pride than picking a winner.
"The crowd that cheers the loudest gives their school the bragging rights ? at least for a year," said Southern graduate Cartrell Watts. "And Southern's brass section is unlike any other."
Grambling alumus Anthony Williams a social worker at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, said that despite the fierce rivalry, "It's all in good fun. It's a night of good, family fun."
"There's really not a winner. It's just a way for us to all get together and have fun the night before the game," Williams said.
Watts, who played the french horn in the Human Jukebox from 1984-88, was reuniting with other former band members in the mezzanine area of the stadium.
Watts, who earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and married his college sweetheart, Shawn, traveled from Atlanta to attend the Bayou Classic.
He hooked up quickly with fellow band alumnus Everett Crockett, a percussionist in the late 1980s, whose son Aaron Crockett, is now a percussionist for Southern.
Crockett said a "win" for the Southern band would be "sweet" this year, because long-time band director Isaac Greggs is retiring this year.

I just can't say what I want to say. An attack on Southern is infact an attack on myself.
Actually the highlight of the trip was wishing Dr. Greggs (one of my heroes) well. I guess I have gotten too old for the rest.
I'm too young to be so tired so I will reserve what's left of my energy.
