Bayou Classic Voted top 10 rivalry

Grambling is the cream of the crop, and has been for decades, but when SWAC schools lose to D2 schools and get embarassed by other FCS schools, it quantifies as bad football.

But that's a whole 'nother topic for another day......carry on.
Aggin, what conference are you representing? What FCS school you know beating FBS schools on a regular.....

Where were your fans? If this is suppose to be a top rivalry, how come it didn't draw more than the MCC? Just curious to know.

It is called the post Hurricane Katrina effect. Folks seem to forget how many folks used to stay in New Orleans with their relatives for Classic or how many New Orleans black folk went to the game before Katrina. The celebrities still rather come to the BC to be seen than the MCC.

I thought you meant Div. 1. My bad.... But what Div. II teams are beating SWAC schoola on a regular? Siht happens sometimes....

Unfortunately JSU lost to a D2 school...It was bad football that day. But you are right, stuff happens.

It specifically says on the ESPN site and I quote: "The battle of the bands aside, the Bayou Classic matches tradition-rich teams with a great destination ? the Big Easy. (AP/Sean Gardner) "

Big ups to SU and Gram!! I LOVE the Bayou Classic......you don't need the best attendance numbers to make a game a top rivalry or top classic.

Playing the game in the Dome has done wonders for the national exposure, but this game would be an intense rivalry even if it was played on the respective campuses. Of course the attendance wouldn't be as great but the intensity would be just as ... "intense". The fact that it's the season ending game and also the only "La" opponent (most years) for either school adds to the rivalry. I know Gram fans hate the fact that SU has gone 12-3 over the past 15 years to take a 2 game BC lead. Now it's our turn to be pissed off about the "we own the classic" rhetoric. Lawd knows I used to spit it their way for years. Dayum yellas make me like flies....:lmao:

the MCC anyday

The MCC? Dude please. You have a nice in state classic with good attendance.....you rank NOWHERE near the Bayou Classic. It takes more than a bunch of people in the stands to exemplify a GREAT CLASSIC. Go around the country and ask random people about the MCC and the BC and see what response you get.

ummm tigertrail,
What does "a GREAT CLASSIC ememplify"?

And seeing how you seem to diss the MCC, please tell me what years you went and how did it fall short of "exemplifying" a GREAT CLASSIC?

Hell ask all the Black folks in the country which one they know about. Don't come in here with this white folks stuff. It is mighty strange a few years ago when the BC was still raking in the big crowds, none of yall had nothing to say. But it is what it is. Being known is what it is all about in anything you do. You want to be known for being the best or biggest in the people's eyes. We live more than just a SWAC world you know.

I knew this thread would take this turn once PJ posted it.:lmao:

Don't come in here with this white folks stuff. The person who started the thread came in here with this "white folks stuff" when they quoted ESPN. That ain't exactly the NAACP is it?

Being known is what it is all about in anything you do. I disagree. Being the best is what it is all about in anything you do.

You want to be known for being the best or biggest in the people's eyes. Magic City Classic is the biggest, and Turkey Day Classic is the best. Case closed.

I didn't say it didn't exemplify a great classic, what I am saying is that in ALL aspects it is NOT bigger, nor more popular than the Bayou Classic. Hell I just heard about it 2 years ago to be honest. And that's not smack.

He's an idiot JR and he knows it. I bet nobody outside the South has even heard of the MCC. Hell I'm from the south and just heard about it a couple of years ago.

They're just wanna be's.....wanna be mentioned with the big names of the SWAC but can't.

All of those are your opinions. If you took a nationwide poll of just black folks that have been to both classics I bet money the BC would win outright. Just probably because of the fact it is New Orleans alone. Hell most sports reporters love the SB more when it is in the Big Easy. It is what it is. If you are affliated with the schools and the state of Alabama of course you think yours is the best. Same for the Florida Classic in Orlando between FAMU and Bethune Cookman. But the average black person who knows about HBCU football across the country will more than likely choose the BC. It was has been hyped for all the years. Even as a kid in Jackson. The BC was the pinnacle of BCF Classics. Actually the Soul Bowl believe or not used to be bigger than it is now.

But hey if you say the MCC is the biggest and TDC is the best........then I will make sure I do my part to relay that to the rest of the United States. So they will have some idea.

There's that word again... is this the word you use when folks opinions are different from yours?

LOL @TT. Well I have heard about the MCC. I think maybe in 84. Same for the TDC. But you are right. I asked my boy from Long Beach State and Ga Tech who is a brother did he know about the MCC. He said no. I asked him had he heard of the BC before we met. He was oh yeah. Who hadn't heard of Grambling vs Southern. He heard about it as a kid growing up in the LBC.

It aint our fault. The BC has never been built just on attendance numbers. It was the fact that Eddie Rob and others boosted this Classic up to national promience. Not to mention he was a Hall of Fame coach with hall of fame players that have played in that game on both sides. The bands were known even before the BC even started. Both bands had done SUperbowls before the BC got its name. So the recognition factor made this the first Black College Classic with National Attention. Even before NBC started showing the game. ESPN would show a highlight from the BC. The city would be overun with people from all over the Nation that had no ties to either school. Thats what does it for me. Seeing folks roll in to the NO and have no affliation with the state or the schools.
