I forgot about the facelift the SuperDome is going to get. So the Saints will play in BR at Tiger Stadium. Don't be shocked if the BC follows suit and try to play in Baton Rouge or it will be in Shreveport. Surely some LSU official is going to approach SU and GSU about the BC as well. Although I would like to save money by them having the Bayou Classic in BR and I do feel that LSU has adequate faclilities to hold the game in the stadium and the BOB in Pete Marvarich(possibly), I do not feel BR has the entertainment atmosphere, lodging accomodations, or food facilities to entertain people from all over the world for an entire weekend. People was probaby end up have to get hotels on the outskirts, if not all the way in New Orleans after these few little hotels in BR fill up. BR has one hotel that is usually the host hotel for conventions and that is the Radisson. When we(<font color=red>Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.</font color=red>) had our Regional Conference here a few years ago it was very tight on us as far as finding space for things. We had to have three hotels just for housing conference attendees that did not live in the area. It was no more than 1500 to 2000 total that attended. We had to rent charter buses just to get sorors from one location to another. Things are not close together in BR. You will not walk to anywhere. BR definitely does not have a good transit system for large numbers of people, such as city buses stopping on every corner and a zillion taxis. It's just not here. As far as restaurants go, just eating on a regular weekend you will have to wait for a table 45 minutes to an hour. So, imagine if 200,000 came through in a weekend.
Traffic is another issue. Every year the Friday and Sunday of Bayou Classic weekend, you can plan on being stuck in traffic getting through BR to hea dto New Orleans. That's just trying to pass through. I-10W and E are nothing but two lanes, except where they open up to 4 near College Drive.
There is 0, zelch, not a 1 club or party facility that can accomodate more than 200-250 people. There are 3 movie theatres, 2 bowling alleys, and 1 skating ring. Nobody comes to Bayou Classic to do that kind of stuff.
Bottom line, BR could handle it if it were the type of game people came to and then left the city after the game. BR can not handle a weekend of 200,000 black folks.
