Baylor Coach Thinks Prairie View’s Toyelle Wilson Deserves A Pay Raise

See how you got me in trouble...Toyelle is going to Baylor as a high paid asst...last I heard or hold on it might be that when Coop leave for USC Toyelle comes over to Texas Southern as a higher paid head coach, I'm old I get things mixed up!:emlaugh:

So..........you'll just use PV as a staffing agency, huh? We find the coach, hire the coach, get the coach championship experience, and you just swoop in and offer them more money. I like that!!!!!

I agree with that. We all have to realize that if we do snag a big name coach from time to time, its only a matter of time before they bolt to something better. You guys gave Coach Davis another shot at wearing his whistle, but I know he will high tail his azz outta there as soon as the next good opportunity comes. This was a guy who felt the rush of coaching in sold out arenas all over the country. And surely for him, playing on a Monday night in front of 150 people aint where its at. We just have to hope they give us something special during the time they are here.

Agreed. After what Cooper and Davis did this season at Texas Southern and if we can get one more year out of them then we got two years more than what we could imagine.

OK, point taken. Let's end the back and forth here right now and focus on the topic at hand....PLEASE.

Voice of reason steps in.

Back to the subject, THIS is how I think a certain possibility could occur: If USC decides to make a play for Coop, she may or may not leave but if she does leave, Toyelle is in houston @ sTu, imho. The $$$ and familiarity w/ C-Mac? PV cannot afford her (right now) in lieu of what sTu could pay her. So in all factuality, it would be a huge loss for PVAMU if Coop left for USC. My personal opinion.

Also, who knows... anlgos are sneaky as hell and after Griner leaves followed by O-Sims, Pope et al higher-profilers, I'm sure Baylor's womens HC will need some "staff" to help persuade profiled recruits (of color). She could be making a play for Toyelle herself. :read: :read: :read:

USC needs someone who can keep the GOOD recruits in LA. The best player at UConn left LA. That is going to take a high profile coach to get that done. Someone well connected with Cali and what it takes to recruit the top kids in Cali. Not sure if Coop is that person, I don't know how strong her ties are with the HS/AAU coaches in Cali.

Seems like if the young high-profile female HS students see and hear the words "Hello, I'm Cynthia Cooper 3-time WNBA MVP and head coach of the USC Trojan lady basketball team of the Pac-12 conference. We're going to return USC to the ranks of the Tennessees, UCONNs, Baylors, Stanfords, et al...and I want YOU to be a part of our return w/ guaranteed playing time in your freshman year." Cali/Hollywood/Laker lol/Clippers associations too? I'm not sure too many could resist that. See how fast those two africans/nigerians whatever they are from Cypress signed w/ Stanford a recent few ago? I could've sworn I was just watching those two dominate in the 5A state title a few yrs ago.

Let me ask a psychological question.........How easy do you think it would be to immediately jump and coach your main rival? I'm a head coach, and I have heated rivals. And, for me, it wouldn't be that easy to leave my troops and go over to the other side just like that. I know sTu can offer Toy more money and all that, but do you really think it would be a "slam-dunk", no-brainer, easy decision like that? Would it be that easy of a choice?

Ask Robertson (baseball coach) and C-Mac who's charged w/ finding the right ones to beat up on his alma mater. lol Obviously $$$ talks to some. :read:

Great question, and I view it as a "fan" question...It's likely that she would stay at PV, but there's a chance because she's not an alum and didn't play for the university that she could leave.

In my situation, I played and coached at TSU. If PV would've offered me a full time salary (more money), opposed to my grad assistant salary, I would've been out of there.

At the end of the day, most coaches are not in a heated rivalry. It's more about the fans with the rivalry stuff than anything. Coaches put the same effort into winning each game and not about a particular opponent. At least that was my experience playing and coaching at the college level. And as a player, I wanted to beat Baylor, as bad as I wanted to be PV.

You forget who allow Toyelle to be at PV....!

You forgot who didn't allow Cynthia to be at sTu.
She wouldn't want Coach Wilson to come and take over another one of her programs and will recommend someone else to Charles. Charles doesn't have the ties to Coach Wilson that he had to all the others that he brought over to stu.

I feel ya, 05. I guess I'm one of the few coaches that put a lil too much personal emotion in what I do. I'm going into my 10th year of coaching, and as a head coach, I have about 2 or 3 schools that I simply hate with every fiber of my being.......lol. Maybe I shouldn't be that way, but if the opportunity arose for me to join forces with them, I would tell them to kiss the crack of my black azz.......lol.

Personally, I don't want my name associated with anything related to tsu. I'm sure others have their reasons for being employed there but it just seems like a dead end job to be honest. Cooper can write her own ticket because of her name alone but how has having tsu on the resume' benefitted the others? its a place where coaching careers go to die.

Robertson made a lateral move. He got alot of good press from turning PV into a winner but getting a gig at tsu was the best he could do? C-Mac had alot of promise and a bright future when you factor in how PV improved while he was AD but unfortunately for him; he's now saddled with all of tsu's baggage (NCAA violations, scandals). He's basically damaged goods now and stuck there because few programs will even touch him.

At some places (I know a few where it has been said) it has been stated you can lose all games except to your rival and coaches have been known to alter things as the rival game brings out the casual fan who'll judge you just by that game.

This was my first year coaching at my new school, and on the day I was hired, the principal told me the one school WE HAD TO BEAT. She was on my azz the whole year about beating them no matter what else we did this season good or bad. Everyone from the administration, to the faculty, to the students, to the custodians, to the cafeteria staff told me how bad we needed to beat them. It was wild. I just don't think I could look my kids in the eye after they have shed blood, sweat, and tears for me and tell them that I'm leaving to coach them. These folks would want my head!!!!!!! Hell......I am in da N.O., it aint much for them to get Pookie and Ray-Ray to knock me off......LOL.

P.S.........We beat they azz 37-12, so I have been allowed to coach again next season....LOL

lol@WWP. congrats to you and team for the victory over the rival.

For me, I'm more into the OOC play vs PWCUs because they execute almost flawlessly, oft times. I like to view a game being played w/ knowledgeable and supportable fans in the stands. I'm not into ghetto ratchetness. A lot of us weren't raised like that :smh:.

Toyelle would deserve more if she both recruited and won like Coop did. This last team still had Coop recruits. I think anybody could coach and be successful with what Coop left us.
