Bonds ends slump with two blasts

CHICAGO ? One home run wasn't enough for Barry Bonds in his return to the San Francisco Giants' lineup.

Bonds hit home run Nos. 752 and 753 of his career off the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon to move within two of tying Hank Aaron's all-time record.

His latest, in the top of the seventh inning, was a three-run shot to center field off Will Ohman that landed in the basket between the ivy outfield wall and the fans in the bleachers. Bonds worked Ohman to a full count before sending a shot that cut through a strong wind blowing toward home plate.

One that made his first home run of the day all that much more impressive. In the second inning, Bonds deposited a first-pitch fastball from starter Ted Lilly onto Sheffield Avenue, the first home run to completely exit Wrigley Field over the right-field wall this season.

The home runs, Bonds' 18th and 19th of the season, and his first since July 3, snapped an 0-for-21 slump. Through the seventh, he was 3 for 3 with a walk. He followed his first home run with a third-inning two-run single to left field, taking advantage of the Cubs' extreme shift toward right field by dinking a ball into short left-center.

Bonds' second multi-homer game of this season, and the 71st of his career, marked a triumphant statement after he had looked so feeble in recent days.

Story

Barry Bonds is one "L" of an athlete. No two ways about it. The man is good. The media may as well get their heads out of thear arses, and give this man his due.

Do your thing Barry.

Way to go Barry

At first GR wanted Barry to get to 755 and quit just to spite MLB for their cruel treatment. But now since Aaron is acting like a bitter old classless man, I hope Barry not only breaks the record, but DHs for th enext 3 next year for the As to kick it up to 855.

It's not Barry Bond's fault about the racism that Hank Aaron had to go through. Hank Aaron is just bitter because he thought he had a record that would never be broken. What a poor sport he's being. I want Barry to smash his record.

The Chicago Sun-Times is blasting Bonds and my manager was co-signing so I asked him why was he on the bandwagon blasting Bonds. His response was he's an Azzhole that took steroids.

My response to him was name a major league Baseball player that isn't an azzhole. My manager can talk about baseball for months (doesn't mean he knows much but hey, he knows more than me) and he could only name 2 people.

He eventually said, "you know....I guess you're right he's not much a bigger azzhole than other stars."

As far as the steroids issue he knew not to touch that with a 10 foot pole.

I told him that the people in San Fran love Barry and if I was Barry I wouldn't give a daymn what anyone outside of San Fran thought either. Fugg em!! LOL

That was the first discussion I've ever been able to shut him up on!! Yep, I'm done working for the day!! LMAO

I just hope the Giants let Bonds break the record n San Francisco.
This is how I hope it plays out... Bond hits two in Milwaukee and then the Giants sit him down. He would then have 7 games in SF to break the record. Make Selig travel to SF to watch him break it.

I can understand those who support the rights of Bonds to be treated fairly and respected in his plight for Hank's record, but I don't think it shows respect to Aaron for his past accomplishments, if you belittle him since he had to go through a lot more of a struggle to break the Babe's record in the 70's.
You should probably vent more of your anger toward the baseball commisioner who is all over the place on whether he should be in attendance when he breaks it.
I would probably advise Hank to do something to congratulate Bonds when he does it, but the OLD MAN as some of you call him, doesn't have to fly all over the country waiting for him to break it.

Did any of you guys see Outside the Lines, Sunday morning? They had a very good discussion about Hank and Barry and all of this...

Frank Robinson and Dusty Baker both said that they have talked to Hank Aaron and it really has nothing to do with dissing Barry and more to do with not being part of a "media fiasco". People don't realize he still work for the ATL Braves, and he just doesn't want to be in the stadium where the cameras and microphones are all in his face asking him questions and taking this whole HR record vs. steroids issue to another planet... And after hearing that I eased up on Hank, and could really understand his points... They even said Hank has said that if Bonds breaks the record somewhere down the line in his own way and time he would congratulate Barry.

Bonds is a great player, no doubt it. Do I think he took something? Yes. But that does not take away the fact that he is an amazing baseball player. He can't move in the outfield now, but he can still hit. I still find myself looking at his ABs and saying,"Wow, that guy still can do it at 42. He is not a beast. He is a MAN!

Just did some number crunching and came to the conclusion that Griffey would have already broken the record--two years ago.

From 2001-2006, Griffey missed a total of 418 games due to injuries. Right now he has 587 HRs. He averaged 41 HRs for his career. Now, if he averaged 41 HRs he would already have 800+ homers.
