Banks granted permission to speak with Texas A&M

I hear you but it appears su is facing much of the same issues sTu faced (sans the JCole & THarvey fiasco). We had to wipe the slate clean and start over.

For the record this is an issue for the conference across the board. We (the conference) are cleaning it up school by school but if the commish had listened several years ago the conference may not be dealing with this now. We could have headed this off but the commish is the commish......so the conference continues to struggle.

Agreed but in the paper it said that he is going to wait on a ruling from the ncaa. After June 1st if the ban is not lifted players can transfer to another school. *sigh* They are scheduled to meet tomorrow and Tuesday with a ruling later this month on what they are going to do. I just hope they reduce practice time and not fool with the scholarships.

Kennedy just fired his long-time friend and nationally-regarded recruiter assistant. The alumni is ready for Kennedy to be replaced and there is already talk of Banks being his replacement.

Avery also. They must love the some SU basketball

Now that would make sense to me. Just move Kennedy out. Hire Avery and let Avery get his son to follow him to A&M. I can see them wanting to do that.

His son just committed to A&M, but the folks on A&M board were saying Tre Banks is the better ball player.

Well that is true. Young Avery is not his Dad by any means. But he does have some upside in the right system. Better shooter than his Dad at this stage but no where near the playmaker. Banks is definitely a better player. AJ Jr will have to get to work to get on the court.

His dad was never a shooter. He was a pure ball handler. I believe I could shoot the ball better than Avery in college.

Best case scenario: We keep Coach Banks and land a couple of impact recruits from the profile that he is building in Texas from this situation.

The selfish side of me hopes he stays to help build a stronger SWAC but SEC top assistant money is what it is = $$$,$$$.$$

I agree. Especially if the NCAA does not allow him to flourish in his job at SU with longer sanctions. At that point, you can't blame him for leaving since it was not on his watch.

if he's in the pipeline to become head coach, i think it's a good opportunity. but it seems like Kennedy is his ticket into the program.

however, it's kind of good that coaches are getting looks even during APR complexity seasons in basketball. but it would be great if coaches wanted to stick around and continue what they started in building a strong program.

I agree with that....and it's just me but, I would like to drive my own program...not sit under someone else. It is basketball. Southern and Texas A&M are both D-1 programs. Other than the money, which I don't think is a driving force to Coach Banks, there is no reason to leave SU, at least not for that job (Assistant). From a head job to an Assistant at that program is not even a lateral move....Hell, being beloved and making 200k in Baton Rouge, LA is a pretty good life.....

A SWAC head coaching job isn't a lateral move to a SEC assistant. You say he is beloved but SU basketball games are empty.
