Band Performances You Will Never Forget.

My most memorable Band Performance was the 1964 BOOM - BOX BATTLE at Mumford Stadium! Although I was not born yet, I GOT A COPY OF THE TAPE FROM THE TAPEMASTER!

The Boom came unto the field in their traditional Tiger Run and broke out with
"Hello Dolly" by Louis Armstrong. Then the Jaysettes danced to "My Guy" by Mary Wells.......... Dayum they put on a show! The Boom then drilled to "Louie-Louie", by The Kingsmen.

Not to be out done was the Juke Box.......... SU hit the field blowing "Where did our Love Go", by the Supremes. Then drilled to "I get around" by The Beach Boys and closed by show by dancing and performing to "Dancing in the Street", by Martha and The Vandellas!!!!! SU existed the field blowing "The Way You do the Things You do", by The Temptations!

Dayum, the was a halftime to remember. :lmao:

PV at the 1995 Labor Day Classic

PV vs. SU - 1994- I only saw this one on tape but the halftime show in the raincoats was something I will never forget.

64?!?!?!?! I have to see that...

1986 SU VS. JSU
The best show I've seen. Both bands were good, displaying major energy and showmanship. If you haven't seen this show, find a copy. It's a bandsmen paradise.

1997 I was in the eighth grade and I was marching for Douglass High School. One of our trips was to the Magic City Classic.....it was my first time EVER experiencing AAMU. They played I feel for you...and I had only heard I think Southern lay it, but I enjoyed the tubas on their version. I remember AAMU playing ANYTIME, ANYPLACE by Janet Jackson in the stands....LOVED IT!!! And Getaway...I had just learned it with Doug so I was excited!!! I think this year a band did a tribute to Tupac and another did Jazz...not sure.

The MCC Show you are thinking about was 1996 when AAMU played I Aint Mad At You

Yeah Angie was there '91 and '92. But Angie HAD TO do 4 rips, she had to be the first girl to do everything but that was a double edged sword because half of the time she didn't even want to be there. Hell I marched Angie's spot most of '91. She would come to practice 3 days a week but she couldn't be zipped, and at the same time she couldn't quit if she wanted to. She was under a lot of pressure for a college student.

ROOO:nod:

Here are the performances that I will never forget.

1.Prairie View (The Storm) 1989--in Little Rock. As a former band member me and some other ole school UAPB members watch this inspiring performance by Praire View. We all agreed that this was tops. The Storm dance routine was to one of Uncle Ricky's tracks.

2.Southern University(The JukeBox)1974- Pine Bluff--Southern came out from the North endzone performing Stevie Wonder's "YOU AIN'T DONE NOTHING" The slow song they played in concert band formation was Blue Magic's 'SIDESHOW'. The dance routine was performed to one of Kool & The Gang's songs. And end of the song the band put their horns down on the field and they did the Bump with no music, and no drums to keep the beat.Beautiful.

3. UAPB (M4)-1980--Homecoming- Well I did not watch it, I was performing  I can't remember the drill song but our dance rountine had people standing up in the stands cheering each time we would go into another dance step. Our dance routine song was "FIRECRACKER". The noise from the crowd was like from an ocean.

4.FAMU--1984-Jacksonville Fl. against Troy State.---The drill was real tight the dance routine was to Shelia E's "Glamourous Life"-- too cold.

5. Jackson State-1978--JSU's Homecoming--(43,000 hostile fans lol). Watched it from the sidelines after we got through dancing to some gotdayum "BRASS TAX' :smh:. This one of the best performances I seen JSU do. The Sonic Boom danced to a medley of the top ten fast songs that year. I never will forget my fellow MAD DRUMMERS INC. comrade "Little Tony" saying while we were kneeling on the sidelines watching The Boom get off--"Man we need to pack our sh!t and go home".

6. UAPB--1993-Little Rock--Kevin Washington was the band director. The M4's band performance was flawless. The dance routine looked as though you were watching a reflection of one person in over 100 mirrors;the moves were just that much in unison.(Philharmonic.. I need the tape of that show)

7. Memphis Booker T. Washington--UAPB Homecoming parade 1972.It was my first year in junior high. All I have to say..they were coldblooded. They were doing sh!t that was 25 years ahead their time..I swear. Every high school and junior high band in the parade followed them down the street;they were at the end of the parade because a years before people followed them down the street before the parade was over with .
(Here is a photo of them
)

8. AM&N(UAPB)--1971--After all of their halftimes, after they finished performing they had a routine going back into stands that was a traffic stopper.

9. Paxon High School--1984--Jacksonville, Florida. These youngbloods were creative and original they did a"Tribute To The Stars" of that year, like Prince,Stevie Wonder,The Time etc. Each song they played from one of the stars they immitated the signature dance moves of those artist. Nice.

Thats my best friend..

i loved that show! especially the DM entrance with the spaceship and the band played Elevators by Outkast.

i'll never forget Labor Day Classic 96, when JSU marched in the tunnel at Legion, started playin Get Ready, and marched all around that batch! :lmao: too funny.

Fall 1990...JSU vs SU at Mumford. Probably one of the best halftime shows I've seen. This was my Freshman year at SU. Shiid...need I say more?

Bayou Classic 1986...when the Juke Marched off the field for half time...then ran back on there and played Sweet Love By Anita Baker. MAN...they blew the roof off the dome that year. They also played, Push It(Get up on this) and House Quake.

Earlier that year, they played Sweet Love in Shreveport. I think we played either Delaware St or Famu.

Bayou Classic 1995 BOTB...The Juke played Who Can I Run To with Xcape sitting right in front of us and they gave Doc a standing o. To this day, I still say that pretty much shut gram down.

The Marching Hornet Uniform Switch in the 80's and also, (think it was the same game) when they left the stadium for the switch, AAMU was still on the field and Bama st. never came back in. AAMU went off the field and everyone was looking for state. Next thing you know.......you hear a whistle blow fast........*dete, dete, dete, dete* and dem fools double-timed straight out from the tunnels under the stadium and out to the field. Crowd went crazy over that s.hyt!!!!

yeah I remember that... I believe they were playing Bama State at Legion Field.... The Boom... marched in to Get Ready and marched a circle all the way around Legion Field. I was like WTF are they doing. I didnt know if they forgot which side to sit on or what... but I remember the crowd going wild.

Those Labor Day Classics with AAMU/JSU and Bama State/JSU should have stayed in Birmingham.

The BOOM used to always aim for the grand entrance....and then came 1997! :lmao:

...and yeah, I liked the games in Bham.
