. . . In Atlanta ! ! !

I have heard a very strong rumor that the Bama State vs Grambling AND the A&M vs Jackson State games will be moved to Atlanta.

Both games are to be played on November 8th, in the Georgia Dome!

It is not a done deal yet, but it looks very likely that it will happen. If this does happen, it would be a HUGE weekend for the SWAC, and a great weekend in Atlanta.

For the first time, we could have the East and the West Division titles settled on the same day, in the same city, on the same field.

This double-header game is being put together by a promoter, and is a great idea, if it can be pulled off.

It is my understanding that the Bama State vs Grambling part of the deal is already set. If the A&M vs JSU part of the deal comes through as expected, then mark your calendars and make your reservations now for what could be one of the best black college football events ever.

I'm interested in the logistics. Will there be separate ticket sales and how much of a delay between games. I would like to see it pulled off cuz that would be a party like none witnessed before. Now if only the Saints and Falcons are playing in the ATL on Sunday afterwards it will really be crunk.

Something like that would definitely be a coup for the City of Atlanta, and for the SWAC!

Television - if indeed this comes to fruition, BET shouldn't even be in the equation! Fox Sports, Fox Sports South or ESPN2 is the quality of LIVE broadcasts to be sought for these games. make note to self to talk to Jay Roberson about this factor!

I need to talk to some of my contacts about this.

MB,

Those are good questions. Hopefully we will have more information soon.

My gut feeling is that they would have separate ticket sales AND package deals for both games. I would imagine that the first game would start at noon, ending around 3:30 p.m., and the second game would start at about 6:30 and end at about 10:00 p.m.

Let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope that this works out.

I often wondered when the ATL would revist that concept.

Back in 91 the ATL was off the hook with this doubleheader matchup.

It was FAMU vs Tn State at Fulton County Stadium for the early game. Then Southern vs SC State at Georgia Tech's Stadium for the night cap. The Saints and the Falcons played the next day. The Jukebox performed for that game. But the amount of folks who decended on the ATL that weekend was unreal. SC State folks(they had a great team lead by Detroit Lion star Robert Porcher), the FAMU folks, the Tn State folks, the SU folks which also included all the damn Saints fans. Remember that was the Cha -Ching years with Swilling and Company. Talk about the city being one big festive place with those folks in town, not including the locals who were out and about.

So this is good news if they are trying to set this up. With that Nov 8th date, it might coincide with a Saints visit to the ATL.

Bean, you need to take medication for that hater virus you have. If you would be honest with yourself, you would admit that GSU draws very well in venues like Atlanta. The name recognition for GSU is well documented and even non-traditional fans will come out to see us in Atlanta.

Too bad we can't play you guys instead...we've whipped your azzes enuff in La and Mississippi. You might need a "neutral site" azz whipping to keep our interest up!

I have two problems with this concept: The turf at the dome and if Grambling would move their home game with Alabama State in '04. Ask anyone from Alcorn if you can depend on Grambling to do you a favor.

Dude, you really ought to stop making an arse of yourself on this board ALL the time and letting everybody know just how clueless you really are.

btw, ASU fans shole did travel to Atl when we played jsue here before.

wonder who won?????

Why should Grambling have to move it's home game in '04. If Bama State chooses not to move it's home game this year then that's their business. But you can bet your azz that if this game is being handled by a promoter then GSU will definitely want a fair share of the payout. When TxSU moved our game with them to San Antonio, the promoter tried to pull a fast one. We politely told them that unless the check was deposited in GSU's account, then we would be awaiting them in Houston.

That's the kind of isht you can pull when you are the most marketable program in BCF. Just be thankful you get a chance to experience Greatness second handed!

LOL @ "neutral site azz whipping" ! ! !

Mobile Chamber of Commerce send help.:emlaugh: :emlaugh: :emlaugh:

MH,

Enough!!! This sounds exciting...but I wonder who the promoter is. What happens with the Peach State Classic or does this take it's place? Does it become a double header? I know part of the problem with the first one was that it was a non-conference matchup late in the season. This alleviates all of that and is much better than an A&T/S.C. State matchup (no smack BT). But I'll hold up until I hear some more info.......

It's not self-proclaimed, it's a fact. Take of the hater glasses and recognize that we were the initial Vanguard Classic (Portland) participant, the Silver Dollas Classic(Vegas) participant , The RiverFront Classic (Cincinnati) participant [although cancelled due to 9/11] and other classics as well (even in Japan).

I don't know why the SCG is not well attended. However, I personally didn't have any desire to drive to Birmingham to see GSU win a game against either of the Bamian teams. Plus the fact that these games are year ending events and close to holidays impact the attendance. Despite their arguments to the contrary, I don't think even an SU/JSU matchup would have fared much better with out the other events that surrounded the first game.

mr. bigg get your head out of your arse and admit that your fans don't show up. You may be called on to be the first team to play in a newly created classic but, do you get invited back for an encore.

I've never tried the "head up azz" thang but if you say so...

What I'm trying to get you to understand is that Black folk throughout the USA and a lot of the white folk too, recognize the name of Grambling due to the legendary Eddie Robinson. Because of this name recognition, even non football fans are enticed to come out and witness the "event" that is Grambling football.

Don't try to give the impression that either A&M or Alabama State carries a huge number of fans to their games. Your home attendance numbers are not big and you are definitely not a draw anywhere on the road. If the SCG was in Shreveport or some more La friendly city, you would have more GSU fans in attendance just like yall had the edge (so you claim) in B'ham.

Have you considered that a portion of the fans at the game were neither GSU nor A&M / Bama State but rather just folk at the game. However, just because they don't have on GSU paraphenalia yall instantly claim them. But when you get your azz whipped in a championship game, I guess it is natural to latch on to attendance or whatever else is subjective.

Duece, it will take more than a handshake to pull this off, because AAMU is working on other things at the moment. Jackson St. is a home game for AAMU this year. Now if the promoter can beat the deal that is currently in the making then this may be attractive. However, I can't speak for the university but it is the fans who will support this type of event. We will go with the best deal. Personally, I would like to go back to the CCC which is a first class event rather than getting involved with a new promoter.

AAMU has too many options to look at rather than take on an entirely new venture.

For years promoters tried to convience AAMU to become 1AA and now that we are 1AA, we are a real attraction to promoters. Sounds a little conceited, but true. SWAC Schools with high rating for being invited to classics are JSU, SU, GSU and AAMU in this order. AAMU came into the picture after joining the SWAC. After winning the CCC this year our stock went up. This is no smack I am talking about schools who promoters are willing to take a chance on drawing fans. AAMU fans will travel but will not come out to regular home games in large numbers.

A very small portion. If you say you didn't come to the game, how do you know who the neutral fans were? Also, that excuse you used for not attending was a poor one. With that attitude, moving the SCG to another location won't mean a d@mned thing! :smh:

THAT ORDER IS NOT CORRECT. YOU NEED MORE BACK GROUND INFO.

Mike Bigg...
How can "Grambling" of ALL schools say ANYTHING about attendance? Gsu's poor attendance in the past 3 championship games is what spooks sponsors. Yes, you have won the 3 past years....but you brought NO FANS. Talk location all you wish, but continious poor attendance like Gsu has displayed endangers the future of the game.

Frankly.....I dont' think Gsu is elgible to talk numbers to us. We (like MANY swac schools) have thousands of alumni in the city of Atlanta. Also, bear in mind that Atlanta is a stone's throw from Alabama. The organizers of this event arent' stupid Mike. If anything......playing YOU GUYS may hurt the overall attendance figures.:(

BIFF...PLEASE POST THE SPONSOR FIGURES FOR THE SCG!. THE SAD PART IS THAT YOU THINK THEY (SWAC) SITS AROUND AND WAITS TO SEE WHO'S GOING TO MAKE IT TO THE SCG BEFORE THEY GO OUT AND GET SPONSORSHIPS.
