This weekend's contest between Alabama State and Arkansas Pine Bluff is still scheduled to be played. There has not been any changes made as of this time. Ivan pounded the Montgomery area for a little while this afternoon but power has has not been lost in the area where the stadium is. We have been truly fortunate and blessed on not sustaining tremendous and stagnant damage like the folks in the southern portions of the state.
 



YUP!! That's correct...found out a few minutes ago that the game was cancelled as well as all other ASU related sport activities. I don't understand why that call was made because after all, the power is on in the area where the stadium is. GEEZ, I was looking forward to some sort of action in the Gump...DAYUM YOU IVAN!!!

Alabama State, Pine Bluff Game Postponed

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama State postponed Saturday's game with Arkansas-Pine Bluff because of power outages at the stadium due to Hurricane Ivan.

The power at Cramton Bowl had not been restored by Friday morning.

"Right now, we don't have a guarantee that power will be restored in enough time for the game," Alabama State athletic director Patrick Carter said.

No makeup date was set, but both teams have open dates Oct. 23.
 
This is getting good, if the game can't be made up, then UAPB will have only 6 SWAC games and having dodged SU, Alcorn and ASU. I bet the SWAC didn't account for mother nature when they decide to not force SU and Alcorn to play UAPB.

There is really no incentive for ASU to make-up this game, its a non-conference game for them.
 
I don't think ASU fans are in a football mood right now. Hopefully, they re-schedule it for OCT 23.

sorry pbla, but the Magic City Classic is Oct. 30 and the SWAC has already established that having a bye week before playing your in-state rival is more important than playing a conference game.

How bad are things in Montgomery? I've read where the Alabama game is still on. They Auburn/LSU game is still on. In fact, LSU is flying into Montgomery and staying at a hotel in Montgomery. LSU equipment bus is leaving Baton Rouge at 5:30pm heading to Auburn, so the roads must be OK.

I'm wondering how bad are things in Montgomery? Hopefully, ASU isn't pulling the same *ish Alcorn pulled because this isn't a conference game for them.

I'm sure they will not. They will have to drive the same roads the 80,000+ fans that will attend the Auburn/LSU game and the same roads the 80,000+ fans that will be attending the Alabama game. Remember, I said LSU equipment bus is leaving at 5:30pm today DRIVING to Auburn.

Auburn Will Play Saturday
The LSU-Auburn game will be played as scheduled tomorrow afternoon.
Auburn officials made the announcement this morning.
The game's status had remained in doubt while university officials waited to assess the damage from Hurricane Ivan on Thursday.
They also wanted to make sure LSU would be able to fly into Montgomery Friday afternoon and there would be enough available support personnel to work at the game.
The game is scheduled for a 2:30 kickoff and will be televised by CBS.
The university didn't experience power outages during the storm.
Auburn officials asked fans to wait until at least 4 p.m. today
before showing up on campus. A campus-wide ban on RVs has been
lifted starting at 4 p.m., though the university will be enforcing
its no-RV zone in the core of campus.
University officials say there should be adequate parking.

No, you answered my question, How bad is it in Montgomery. Now that the game is cancelled, what is the wait on rescheduling? Its a no-brainer, Oct. 23rd.

I don't know what the weather is in Montgomery, but I've read that a lot of people are still without power.

As for Oct. 23 being "a no-brainer", remember, this is the SWAC, the conference where teams in a 5 team division can get away without playing each other.

wonder what the conference would do if ASU puts it foot down and insist on not playing the week before the MCC

SWAC Schedule Changes - Week 3
The Alabama State vs. Ark.-Pine Bluff game in Montgomery has been postponed, due to storm related power issues at the Cramton Bowl Stadium and will be re-scheduled at a time to be announced.

The Alabama A&M vs. Mississippi Valley State game in Huntsville has been changed from the original 6:30p to an earlier time, 3:00p.
 
There are about 31,000 Bell South telephone customers without service as well. In my case, I've been blessed to have my power restored as of this morning. With the help that Alabama is receiving from states like Georgia, Tennessee, and even from far north as Minnesota, I expect that most of us here in the Montgomery area will have power restored before that Oct. 1 date. I thought for sure after traveling around the Cramton Bowl facility earlier this morning that power was in effect since the traffic lights were not out. I guess the bowl is running power off of a different source.
 
funny thing about 30 minutes after they cancelled the game the power was back on at the bowl...typical....
