AU diversity officer says firings were racially based

How are you going to say that AU doesnt want you there? Just because Blacks CHOOSE not to go there. I had a full scholarship offer in chemistry to go to AU... They CAME to my high school (98% Black) my senior year in high school to recruit Black students to go to AU. I have some friends who graduated with me that went to AU. Just because the school doesnt have Blacks doesnt mean they arent wanted by the school, Blacks just may not want to go to there. I didnt want to go to AU... it was in the woods, same reason I never wanted to go to Tuskegee.

AU is public.

This kinds of reminds me of University of Georgia and its lack of attracting black students.

Lack of attracting Blacks???? So HBCU's have a lack of attracting whites? Blacks choose not to go to UGA just like whites choose not to Albany State. Its not the schools fault.... they dont look at the application and decline it because you are Black.

I'll keep this short and simple for you: If you are Black and don't catch, or run with a football or tackle somebody with the football then Auburn really doesen't want you around there. You notice I didn't include throw with run and catch. But, as long as they can pay the athletes without getting caught we will continue to go there. I really can't decide who are the biggest racist; Ole Miss in the 60's or 21st century Auburn.
Now that's a big stretch.
There has to be close to 2K Black students at Auburn. The vast majority of them don't play any sports.

and Dahill,
To each his own, but going to school in a small town has a whole lot of advantages, so I can easily see how an "ORDINARY Black person wants to go to school in the middle of NOWHERE" (Tuskegee, Ft Valley, Gram, Alcorn, etc.

and UGA does have a problem attracting Black students. Only 200 Black students in a freshman class of 5K

hmmmmm.....

Athletes told to boycott AU

By Jannell McGrew
Montgomery Advertiser

The Alabama Legislative Black Caucus wants all black athletes to rule out the possibility of attending Auburn University.

Caucus members are calling for a nationwide boycott of Auburn athletics because the AU athletic department fired two black administrators as part of a reorganization. One white administrator also was fired in the restructuring of the department.

Man, this would never work. Players outside of Alabama either won't know or care about diversity issues because they want to get TV exposure.

If it doesn't work, it will because they don't make negroes like they use to.

During a hearing on the Desegregation lawsuit held in B'ham, I was shocked to learn how the few black faculty members were treated and many departments at Auburn have never had a black in its field of study. Every black who applied was rejected. There are many things that goes on in these schools that you would not believe. Remember the Omega incident when they tried to bring in some black issues and these issues were swept under the table. They moved the football team off campus and isolated them from the issue. In addition, the team had several Omegas on the team at the time. There is a new unwritten rule at Auburn that if you join the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity you will not play football at Auburn. Several have transferred who joined Omega. I don't think Auburn can with stand all the issues that may come out of this.

When blacks folks get serious about issues in this State, things will happened.
