ASU vs. SU


Both bands were blowing tit for tat. As far as halftime shows SU same stuff as usual. Theyre show didn't get much house if any. That stuff there doing decade in and decade out is getting old.Our show was decent I did like the Louisiana tstate formation we did it was claasy. The Blackeyed peas tune that the stingettes danced to was kill'n. The dance routine didn't get much house as it did in Montgomery. I guess it was a Gump thing. 5th Quarter...what 5th quarter? Patty and the Juke got the Hell on.
Btw, I did like the Maze tune Golden Time of Day SU playedit was kill'n. I'll have both shows on the ASU game replay Tues so u can judge for yourself
 



From what I saw on TV, both schools did a good job. I could'nt follow neither school's dance routine. :confused:
As far as sound, SU had it all the way. SU sounded so clean and powerful!!!! :tup: Wow!
ASU was cool, too.

MAN, ASU IS FOR REAL THIS YEAR. THEY WERE CLEAN AND LOUD AND SOUNDED GREAT. I'LL GIVE SU ITS PROPS..... THEY WERE THE SAME BUT HALFTIME WAS ALL ASU...EXCEPT DANCE ROUTINE BOTH WERE NOT GOOD. THE BLACKEYED PEAS SONG THAT ASU PLAYED WAS AWSOME. IT WAS VERY LOUD AND FULL THE ENTIRE SONG. SU TRIED TO BLOW AT ASU WHEN ASU WAS COMING OFF THE FIELD BUT IT WAS POINT THERE WAS NO SOUND. IT WAS POINTLESS. YOU COULD HEAR THE JAGS WERE VERY TIRED.
3RD AND 4TH QUARTER ASU TURNED IT UP WHILE THE VOLUME KNOB ON THE JUKEBOX GOT STUCK ON 3 AND THEN DOC RAN OUT OF QUARTERS TO PUT IN THE JUKEBOX SO THEY GOT UP AND RAN. NOW WE ALL KNOW THAT SU BAND MEMBERS AND OLD BAND MEMBERS ARE GOING TO COME WITH SOME LAME ARSE EXCUSE TO WHY THEY LEFT SO LETS HEAR THEM. "UH DOC COULD HAVE CAUGHT A COLD OR THE FLU!" :emlaugh: 5TH QUARTER ASU JUST BLOWED AND BLOWED AWAY WHILE OLD SU BAND MEMBERS STOOD ON THE FIELD LOOKING DUMB FOUNED!!!!!!!!! IT WAS GREAT. I tried to tell all me band kids I teach at Central that State was gon rape SU,Who got the tape cuz You know me Seeing is believing. Who's next on the list to see State?
 
That game was sooooo krunk. The best part was when it started pourin outta nowhere. SU start playin and thought we wasn't gone krank back?? :dizzy: Please
 
Both bands were good. I was surprised at how good ASU sounded. As for halftime neither dance routine was good. The Dolls were fiyah fa sho. Stingettes were good but it looked liked they have stole some things from the Dolls... like the six girls thing. Only thing I didnt like about SU show was why they let that boy start dancing. :redhot: They should've ended it with Do whatcha wanna. And ASU why were yall shakin yall ass in the camere for 5 minutes straight. I mean enough is enough. I'll give the W to SU. Overall they were the loudest,cleanest, and had the better formations.
 
I utterly HATE what the internet has done for the competitive spirit of bands. I have NO affiliation with either school, but I'm willing to bet that SU didn't "run" from a 5th quarter. Playing MORE does NOT always equal being BETTER.

Dude, I WORKED on a college band staff, and just because a school leaves, more often than not, they are not running. You all view band battles in such a narrow tunnel, that you will never see it. But there are MANY factors that go into stuff like that.

Like the high school that performed after the game, the meal that needs to be eaten, and the bus ride back to Louisiana (since there were no hotels involved with this matchup). Think logically instead of with your 'band brain'. They practice JUST AS MUCH as your group does. So what makes yout think they will RUN from competition?
 
I think everyone had sad all I would say. Both bands sound good. I really impressed with Bama State. I told my wife (momof2ym) that I can't recall them ever sounded that good. It sounds like the Juke has some ole' school sound on the field this year. I like the energy of both bands. The Louisiana salute was really nice and very classy. Those are types of ideas that Bama State usually come up with against SU, but they usually come up lacking. Not this time... Kudos! Of course the Dolls were their usual tight self. I get the vibe that they are going to take it up another level this year. Bama's ladies :tup: I would have come in the game in the outfits they wore at halftime and danced in what they wore to the game. The ones they had on in the 1st half really accent their Bama beauty... They even got a couple of them on a TV interview during the game. SU had a clarinetist and Doc interviewed. Being that I was a trumpet player and section leader, Jukebox, you made my heart proud hearing the sound and the range dimensions on the field. With all the school has been through with the storms, we could expect you to be really behind on your progression. But, it sounds as though you are on point.

I look forward to a special homecoming this week, since this will be Doc's last and it will be JR, Big Thunder and my 20th Year Anniversary with KKPsi.

Its funny how when the Juke leaves a fifth everybody makes excuses for them like their some wonderband or something. I marched for Bama St. for 4 years and Southern never left a game when they thought they had an advantage (sound or momentum). Where are those NUTZ when your bands against the wall? Team losin, other side of the stadium is jumpin,Sound matched or stronger, music matched, great arrangment for great arrangment. Dont try to act like all of a sudden the S had alternate agenda. They stayed when they won Swac Champs 2 years back, they stayed when we marched into their stadium (doin my job remember). Hell they stayed longer than we did in our own stadium last year( damn MPD). Dont make excuses. Take your whoopin like a Band.

I was not speaking for Southern, but since they were the school in question this week, I used them. I am speaking for ALL schools. Because the very second any school leaves, they are scared...That is BULL!!!!! SU left the PV game first last year. Does that mean they were scared? NO....It means it was time to go. I'd LOVE for every big game to have a built-in 5th, but that's my 'band brain' talking.

Sounds to me like you are trying TOO hard. People are giving you all WELL deserved props for a clearly outstanding performance. Take it and be gracious.

And with all those examples you just mentioned, how many did they have to hop on a bus and head back to Louisiana? There ARE more important things than band.
 
I just got back home. Man!!! What a game!!!

Anyway to the bands. I don't have much to add. Some people are going to agree and others are going to disagree. I personally think that both bands where equally matched that night. The song selections by both bands where tight!! I particularly loved that Golden Time of Day by SU!!! It was sooooo pretty!! State got some pretty songs, but I admit I don't know the titles of some of them.

As far as halftime, I love SU's drill. I like State's tribute to LA. Dance routines where ok for both bands. I don't think SU ran away. I just don't think they wanted to wait until a high school band did their show and then do a fifth quarter. Either way, I was disappointed they didn't stay for the fifth.

Overall, great job by both bands.
 
All the props for State is greatly appreciated they deseve it. Its been a long hard road to rebuild our program. I just dont want anybody making excuses for a band that I have much respect for. I geuss I was just expecting TOO much. If your known for having a intense rivalry and your ready for whatever and your opponent shys away, you might be a left a little confused about what just happened you might even feel cheated. Anyway they'll be another battle another time when you cant run away....hahaha

You said a mouthful. I think many people are starting to EXPECT a 5th. The 5th is NOT a guaranteed right. I never EXPECT to see a 5th. When it happens, I look at it as a bonus. I just can't stand a band saving their best for a time when most people won't even see it. Halftime is the ONLY time when the ENTIRE stadium's attention is focused on you. Why wait for the time when there's 300 people left in the stands to throw your best out there?

ASU DID NOT SAVE THE BEST FOR THE 5TH QUARTER. THEY WERE OPENING UP DURING THE GAME. I should have clarified in my post. That statement was a blanket statement, not one directed at ASU. I am speaking in general. I have seen many bands not give 100% thru the game waiting on a 5th, then the other band bounces and leaves them with the "Richard"-face.

Quit being so dayum defensive. :lol:

And let me re-iterate that I was not at this game, and have no affiliation with either school. So I have no personal interest in making excuses for ANY dayum body. I just have been on the side of this type of thing that you will probably never see.

I don't believe nobody is scared of anybody. Those who may be don't show up at all. When the 5th didn't have a name, it meant a lot to us. Now, it ain't all of that to the bandsmen. If they do it, OK. If they don't, we didn't come here for that anyway. For example, we ('84 - '87 Juke) came to the game prepared to every song we had, even if it was in the dark. In fact, a night was dedicated every week for going through every song from top to bottom (it was our party in the bandroom). So, doing it at the game was simply allowing the fans and our opponent in on our party on Saturday. It meant we didn't eat sometimes, but we would have been pissed if we had to leave.

I don't recall seeing the college bands do that in the 70's and I don't recall talking about it with those that I know marched back then. I don't think they did as much as we did in the '80's, because the bands were allowed to jam more during the game back then. When the pros started complaining about crowd noise, it filtered to the colleges and then to high schools. Thus, all of the rules about when you could play, warnings, penalties, etc...

Well, it is 2000's and it appears the system is really against 5ths. So, as someone said, I hate when I don't get it, but I'm not surprised or pissed when I don't. I don't get to see or hear college bands as much as I use to (due to work and kids), so I hate it when there isn't a 5th battle when I do get to a game. I really get pissed seeing a band sitting on their butts when their team needs their support (play, cheer, or something...). I get over not having the 5ths, especially if I didn't hear a bunch of '80s songs at halftime.

A band get a DECENT sound and now they out did SU....

A college band is SUPPOSED to sound good... This is the they thing that is killing me.....lol Some of you ASU folks act like you got a new toy, when someone finally started correcting yall horrible sounds... The only thing they did was fix what was broken... SU was never broke, that why folk is surprised for ASU, and not as SURPRISED for SU... DUmmies and upper0crabs I swear...

From the little clips I heard.... SU is still noticably better. But keep up the good work... Alot of times good isn't good enough especially against a band like SU... :dude:
