ASU rescinds I-A resolution

TSU folks the past is the past. Last time I went to Adelphi Stadium the AGGIES came out of there as the Black College National Champs.

SHUT UP

I think if theres anybody that needs to "shut up" it's smalltime arse A&T. Going around touting itself as the best BCF has to offer. Knee-Grow puleeze. A&T will never be in the "elite" of HBCU fb.

Tenn St 17 wins

vs

A&t 4 wins.

Son we're your Grandpappy. Now you shut the ***** up
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

JST, you mean to tell me that in the last three years all JSU has done is renovate it's softball field and tennis court? Two non-revenue sports that no one cares about?.You expect us to believe that JSU spent $ 2.7 million on softball and tennis when your main revenue sports all have more pressing needs? Man please.

BTW: At A&T we also got a new tennis court complex this past year, but I never even mentioned that to you because it was just tennis. I thought this whole debate was about real sports.

Dude, our leaders did all this in addition to the upgrades made to our football stadium- which, of course, were the first priority. I think they just built the tennis courts to comply with some type of Title IX rulling. And to think: we didn't even have to stall for time or compile a two year study to do it.

Once again, that is called being progressive.

Roar Man,

We beat you the last three times we played TSU. How did it feel to see your undeated season end in 1999? Shut up until you find away to beat us again. Also, your home games have never been as packed as Adelphi is in that photo. No even on your homecoming.

TP,

I went to every home game in 1998. At no point was a blue print of our field house posted up around the stadium that year. The architecture design you are referring to didn't get revealed until 1999 when Renick got there. Me and Paul Aggie Fan spoke to him personally after the YSU playoff game and lobbied him to hurry up and build that fieldhouse. He broke ground on it six months later. No disrespect to Fort, bu our previous administration had about as much vision as JSU's administration does now.

TP

The progressive vision to put up lights and build a pressbox is more than we could ever dream of. Why cant you understand this?

So, he decided to break ground and build this fieldhouse, because you and someone named, Paul Aggie Fan, told him to hurry up and build it?

Pk, are you sure that you and that beatwriter for A&T is not kin in some way?

Pk, take time out to think before you post. :smh: @PK bragging on facilities that A&T just got that "Bigtime" schools already had.
So PK, your leaders just built some tennis courts just to comply to some type of Title IX rule?
PK, you are truly pathetic! :(

Money has been spent to upgrade facilities. We've just had construction so many other places and other places we've had to order various equipment and technology for over the past 2 or 3 years. They've made renovations to both science buildings and the library. They've built new dorms and the new Liberal Arts Building. They've purchased new instruments and band uniforms. Upgraded the computers and network in every building on campus. Completely reorganized the internal road system on the campus. Made repairs to one of the current dorms and are beginning renovation on the others. All this has been taking place over the past 3 or 4 years, plus the instability at President until last year. How many things can you expect the school to do at one time? They have money set aside and money donated for athletic department facilites. They probably will not be doing anything with it until all this other construction going on around campus is done. Plus, there is a dispute on how to exactly deal with some money donated by Payton before his death. So, the inititive by the University is there. And as for us not having our own stadium, there are already proposals on the table. These are just a few things going on at JSU over the past couple years. There are plenty of things I did not mention, so you can not expect the school to have 100 things going on at once. All changes will come in due time.

Someone mentioned a new tennis court. YEah we also got one of those over the last couple years, plus there is construction going on right next to the new tennis court and Walter Payton Center.

..and Thrilla do you that JSU has THREE other campuses in Jackson? The Medical Mall, Universities Center, and the e-Center.

I hope A&T can catch up some day. LOL

TP, you mean that Jackson State has its own Medical program equipped with its own campus?

Gee. If A&T just got lights, pavement, a properly working drainage system, a decent pressbox, tennis courts, and a fieldhouse that looks like the "Stewpot Kitchen on Capital Street"; they have a long ways to go. :bawling:

Black,

Did you see that double-wide trailer under completed Projects. Maybe JSU can pull one of those suckas on the yard instead of building the engineering building. :lmao:

Sonic, I can respect your last post. Unlike Get Ready you seem to not be an idiot. I'll even bet you probably can actually read an entire post correctly without repeating the same errors. I have told him a million times that we already have a press box but he fails to comprehend that. Oh well, I guess that's just how he ws raised. Also, unlike TP you seem to not be a complete liar who just makes things up as he goes along. Even though I met him in person before I'm beginning to think that cat is really a liar in real life too.

Rest assured I never intended this debate to be a comparison between A&T's and JSU's facilites. A blind man can see that your school can't match up to mine. Our campus looks 5 million times better yours. I was just explaining to you the reason why Watkins felt A&T had the best chance out of any BCF program to go 1-A in football. I told you it was mainly because we had progressive leaders at A&T. For some reason, GR and the rest of these JSu morons took offense to that and tried to say my leadership wasn't progessive-- despite all the upgrades they have made to our football program since they got there. These guys built a new state of the art fieldhouse, installed stadium lights, resodded the playing field, installed a new drainage system, increase the stadium parking lots, bought new uniforms and helmets, added a new marqueee sign outside the stadium, and now have plans to remodel our pressbox and our track. All that is three short years. If that is not called being progressive I don't know what is.

Each time I tried to explain what they have done for A&T, someone tries to belittle it like it's no big. That's cool. However, I refuse to just sit by and listen to someone who has less than me criticize my facilities. We have a one of the top stadiums in 1-AA football and it is only getting better. That is why Watkins wants to work with our program and not a school in the SWAC.

He sees all the improvements we have made in just a short period of time, so he knows we are very progressive.

The proof is in the puddin.

Well I have not seen A&T's stadium, so I can not make comparisons. How does it look when compared to TnSU or AAMU?

Sonic it cant compare to AAMU's stadium. The stadium is built like a high school stadium except for it is a horseshoe. It is all metal and no concete. If you are under the bleachers you can see peoples feet(if you know what I mean). Its an aight stadium, but I believe if a good strong wind came it would blow Aggie Stadium to Durham, North Carolina.

Thrilla,

Again, your new leadership did not build that fieldhouse and you can't compare those renovations to Aggie Stadium to JSU because we don't have a stadium but I doubt that we would be bragging on the things you are. What is it about Sonic98's post that says anything about anyone lying? If you read what our president says in his address on our athletics, he insists that it will take a few years to put all the buildings up. Dude, you can say what you want but I went to GaTech and I KNOW that you don't put up a field house or any other building in 6 months. That's dumb and besides A&T did not have 2.7M laying around. In fact that building still might not be paid for. Dude, just getting bids to build could take longer than 6 months. When I was at JSU in 1994, I was told of the plans to build but things don't happen over night. What you don't understand is that the Payton Complex is a major undertaking. I don't mind waiting five years to get what we want rather than settle for patchwork that we will be outdated in 10 years. No other HBCU has had a plan like Payton Complex. The only thing Sonic98 said is that we have other projects that are going on right now, so some other projects will have to wait. The things Culberson and Mason want will take time and will be after projects that are already funded. Since Mason has arrived we have built a graduate dorm and a Liberal Arts Building. Currently, within the next six months an Engineering building will begin to be built as well as a School of Business Bldg but NONE of that can be credited to Mason just as 95% of what is going on at A&T can't be contributed to your new administration.

Also, what does renovations to your stadium have to do with Watkins. It's too small for 1-A football and he would want to tear it down anyway. Also, it is obvious that he is not going after the major schools. Why would he choose tradionless schools like A&T and AlaState when you have other schools with a lot more name recognition and fan support?

Dahill,

Your stadium is nice, but you don't have a better playing surface than we do, you don't have a better fitness and wellness center/ field house that us, and your seating compacity is no where close to being as large as ours. I like your press box design and home side seating area, but I understand the visitor side at your stadium is much, much smaller. Our is uniform on both sides.

Actually, we have only acheived phase one of our fieldhouse complex and the final goal is to have the structure wrap all the way around the north endzone to complete the horseshoe. That is why is is just in the northeast corner of the endzone right now. We could have stalled for time like JSU and waited for 20 years to build the whole thing at once, but our progressive leadership decided to spend 2.7 million immediately and fufill some of our more pressing needs sooner.

TP,

I dont care if you went to Ga Tech or MIT. You do not know what your are talking about concerning our fieldhouse. You don't know how much money we had "layin around." Trust me, it is more than you broke swamp negroes have. Edward Fort , our chancellor in 98, had nothing to do with it. We had been needing a fieldhouse for quite some time but he never wanted to make that kind of investment to our athletic department. That is why some of you say we are playing "catch-up" now. He was mostly concerned with making our school's engineering department the best in black college academics, and he suceeded. But to be truthful, he was never a big sports guy.

Dude you are busy telling me my leadership is not progressive, but they have done 15 times more to improve our football program in the last three years than your's has, and they have done more to improve our academic facilities too. They made the upgrades to our stadium in addition to constructing a new communication and business buidling complex ($37 million), renovating the student union, renovating the cafeteria ($8 million), building a new co-ed dorm on campus ($26 million), building a new 400 car parking lot ($1.7 million), renovating most of the older academic buidlings on campus($10.8 million), and a bunch of other stuff I really don't care about.

It's not like our leadership was spending all our money on the football stadium while your's was busy spending money to improve your academic buildings. That is not the case . We have done more than JSu in both those areas at the same time.

<img src="http://web4.ncat.edu/engineer/pictures/parking4.jpg" width="200">

Lastly, I think our stadium can be expanded for 1-A football without being torn down. If we can sit 34,000 in our current stadium, I think we should be able to add another 10- 15k with not much problem. Especially with the new pressbox design. A 45k stadium is all we need in Greensboro.

A&T is as "major" as it gets right now with black college football. We might not have the legacy of a Grambling or Tennesse State, but right now we have all our ducks in a row and present the srtongest overall BCF program in America. JSU doesn't even come close . That's why you weren't even considered in Watkins vision. Dude is a millionaire and he knows where he would just be wasting his money. I think he chose ASU with his heart (since he is a home town guy) but after that failedd he decided to choose A&T with his head. We are the most logical choice right now.

However, I still don't think our adimistration even wants to go 1-A.

Thrilla, I could care less about the construction going on at A&T. It's going on at every school. It's lawsuit money. No big deal. I hope you all make the most of it. JSU has not got ours yet but schools like TNState, A&T, and AAMU have. So what you need to be doing is making sure that the money is being spent wisely.

But you don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to athletics. The work you all have done was cheap and if A&T had money laying around, they would not have to wait to enclose the endzone. The Payton Complex will be built in phases..in fact it is more than one building. However, when it comes to your wellness center and athletics, agian I KNOW that Rennick did not put together the design or get the money for it because he was not president when I saw the picture and I know that they had made room to build the complex because I saw it with my own two eyes. I even recall Fort riding through in the Mercedes in the Parade. I know he was president then. I have only been to A&T once. Had that not been the case, I would not be so sure. Rennick and Scandrett have done nothing but screw in some light bulbs and drain the field and you can't tell me otherwise. Sad thing is, they have been there longer than my administration. I think you need to ask some Aggies who followed the school and the team before 1999 'cause you don't know jack.

DO you think that it is even good business sense to find a contractor in 6 months?? Thrilla, you should be embarrassed and you should not try to take credit away from Fort. Nothing that you see going on at A&T is because of Rennick and Scandrett.

I don't think that any person with any type of business sense would go after A&T over the better known schools. A&T may have came up over the last three years but before then, you all were never invited anywhere and you all were not the first choice for the PSC. I am sure that the promoter is sad that you all were the best he could get. When we get done with FAMU in 2003, we might decide to take our classic in Atlanta back.

A&T is smalltime. ....BTW, if you all had money laying around, why can't you all buy band uniforms and get a decent pressbox?? 'cause ya'll broke. Watkins knows that SU, JSU, TNState, FAMU and Gram could 1A by themselves. What do we need him for?? I think you all are just the easiest prey. :lmao:

What an idot.

How are you gonna sit here and argue with me when I was at A&T in 1998 and 1999. I went to every home game. I know what was been planned and when it actually was built. Once again, I did not say that the fieldhouse was drawn up or even built in six months. I said that the plan was unvieled in 1999 when Renick first got there, along with the stadium lights. There was not any area cleared out for our fieldhouse during the regular season in 1999 but there was a blueprint unveiled at our stadium that year. However, it wasn't until after the second round of the playoffs that year when I ran into Renick and begged him to hurry up and build it. I'm not saying I was the reason he made it happen but I'm sure that I, and other passionate alumni like myself, motivated him to move swiftly. Six months later he broke ground on phase one of that complex. That was even before the lights were put up. The lights didn't go up at A&T until the following July. The building process took two years to finish and wasn't offically ready until this past summer. If you look at pictures from our homecoming game in 2000, you will see it was still under conctruction.

Aggie%20Stadium.jpg

That is why there is all that dirt around it. You can also see the area to the left of it where phase two will soon begin.

The buidling took almost two years to finish, but because Renick moved swiftly on it, we are able to enjoy it now. At JSU you make excuses about having to spend your money on academic buildings while you only have a patched-up softball field to currently enjoy. LOL!

By the way, what lawsuit are you talking about? None of our new athletic upgrades were built with public bond money of any kind. We just know how to raise funds and spread the wealth better than you can.

GREENSBORO -- State-of-the-art training facilities do not win championships. But in NCAA sports, having a top-flight facility can go a long way in helping a program establish a national reputation.

As N.C. A&T begins preseason football practice today, there is an air of excitement around campus. The opening of the school's newly completed training center is expected to produce handsome dividends for Aggies football in particular, and for the school's athletics programs in general.

The Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Fitness and Wellness Center, located at the open end of the Aggie Stadium horseshoe, has been a long time coming. A&T spent $3.2 million to build and furnish the 25,000-square-feet facility, which features two spacious locker rooms, a modernized weight room and sports medicine area. Other amenities include a multi-purpose classroom, administrative offices, a laundry area and ample storage space for football equipment.

"Everything (in the center) is top-of-the-line," said senior safety Brice McLean, who works as a personal trainer at the Pyramids Fitness Centers during the offseason. "It's good that we now have access to the kind of facility that will help us become good enough to compete successfully at the national level. We see this as the start of building a new dynasty."

A&T coach Bill Hayes has waited 14 years for a new facility. He was told a training center would be built when he was hired in 1988. But it wasn't until two years ago at the ground-breaking ceremony that Hayes began to see some tangible evidence. Now that the center is operational, he says A&T will have a better chance of attracting a greater number of top-shelf athletes.

With the opening of the Bryan Center, the Aggies rank favorably with Florida A&M, Hampton and Howard, who are acknowledged around the MEAC for the quality of their training facilities.

"This will really jump-start our recruiting," Hayes said. "Now we have something to show impressionable high school players. They want a nice weight room, training room and all those things. And now we have that to offer."

In spite of its lack of top-grade facilities, A&T hasn't fared badly. During the Hayes era, the Aggies have a .639 winning percentage, which includes three MEAC championships and two Division I-AA playoff appearances. Last season, A&T finished 8-3 but failed to win back-to-back conference titles when they suffered a surprise 46-45 loss to Delaware State. In this year's preseason voting, the Aggies are the hands-down favorite to win the MEAC and an automatic playoff bid.

"In the past, we didn't have a whole lot, so we did the best with what we had," sophomore wide receiver Derek Becton said. "We've finally got what we've been needing, so all of us are expecting to be so much better. We'll put this (new facility) to good use."

The Bryan Center represents a stark contrast to A&T's previous training quarters, the Strickland Field House. The outdated field house, built in the early 1950s, could handle just 35 players, which was the standard number of players for a college football team 40 years ago. Today's A&T teams have 85 to 90 players. Aside from the cramped locker room, the field house had a small dressing/shower space for the coaching staff and not much space left over for team trainers and the equipment staff to work with.

"A&T is making all the right moves," said Delaware State coach Ben Blacknall, an A&T alumnus who was a longtime assistant at South Carolina State before taking over as the Hornets' head coach in 2000.

"I was teasing coach Hayes about (the new facility) at the MEAC football press conference. I told him I'd rather be in the tent. That way, I'd have an excellent way to keep my players motivated by reminding them how A&T gave us bad accommodations as a visiting team.

"But seriously, what they're doing says so much about their program. It's progress and I'm glad to see it."

TP, do you think it was a coincidence we got this building when our new leadership arrived? After 14 years of saying we were gonna get one, it took Renick to come and make it happen. That's because he had the vision to see how this would benefit our entire school. Too bad your leaders don't possess that same type of vision.

August 01-2 = August 1999

Scrandrett was hired in 1999. Dude, you don't actually expect me to believe that Scandrett had anything to do with this. Culberson was hired in June 2000 and Rennick had JUST been hired in 1999. Scandrett probably had not even been hired.

listen you idiot, I was there. I worked for the school newspaper in 98 and 99. I was at all the football press conferences those years. There was no plan to build a fieldhouse until Renick got there in 1999. It was big news. There was photos about it put up all around campus and articles about it wriiten in the local papers. This helped everyone to get behind Renick because we saw he was a man of action who brought about change.

Maybe you are just mistaken about the fieldhouse or maybe you are just lying like you always do when you lose an debate, but either way you on wrong on that.

Trust me: I was a student then. This is not something I heard about or someone sent me an email about, this is something I know first hand.

Fort was dislike by many of the A&T fans because he was notoriously against spending money for athletic upgrades. Don;t you think if he was gonna build that fieldhouse and earmarked all the money for it, he would want to claim responisibly so he could improve his legacy. However, everyone credits Renick with the construction of the fieldhouse-- which they should. It was his vision and his hard work.

Acutally, Renick was selcted as our new chancellor in the middle of 1998 but he did not take office until 1999. That ensured that our school had a smooth transition.

In those three shorts years he has transformed our campus remarkably. During that same time, JSU's campus continues to suck and be an eyesore.

Please build something new and stop having all these 20-year planning meetings.

Thrilla,

You don't know what you are talking about. Fort was President through June of 1999. They broke ground in August 1999. The picture was up for HC 1998. Bottomline. The only thing Scandrett did amounts to smalltime improvements.

I don't think you realize how dumb you sound.

.

No they didn't. Fort and the State planned ALL of those things.

Alright TP, it's clear now that you are just playing dumb because you can no longer win this debate. Fine.

I am tired with arguing with someone from Mississppi about when my Chancellor was hired and when my fieldhouse was constructed when I was at A&T during those years.[/b]

Dude, I don't even feel like looking on the Net anymore to find another article to prove my point because all you're gonna do is play dumb and change the subject.

I can't believe you are actually trying o tell me thins that happened at A&T when I was there. LOL!

In 1994, we planned to build a school of Liberal Arts Bldg. We just moved in in 2000. Buildings take time. You have to secure the money and get contractors. It could take up to year for bids. You don't know much.

Your Prez did not clear land, secure money and get a model for a building in 6 months. Fort did that. Besides, I saw it.
