ASU has enrolled the highest number of students in the University’s history, with a record 6,076 students enrolled for the fall 2013 semester. That number is a four percent increase over last year’s enrollment of 5,815.

Cherise Peters, associate provost and vice president of Enrollment Management, said several factors contributed to the increase.

“A university is doing a good job of managing its enrollment when not only is it focusing on the recruitment and enrollment of the 'best of the best', but it is also focusing on retaining the great students already a part of its population. ASU has made historic steps on both fronts,” Peters said.

Harris said that one of his most important goals was met when ASU was designated a Level VI degree-granting university by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Level VI is the highest designation SACS can make, indicating that an institution offers four or more doctoral degrees as its highest degrees.

Harris announced two new academic programs: the bachelor of science degree in forensic biology and the new graduate certificate programs in rehabilitation counseling and disability studies, policy and services, all of which were recently approved by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.

Globalization: there currently are students from 28 different countries enrolled at ASU.
