Just got his azz BEAT by Alphonso Gomez, who was on The Contender.

Gomez was supposed to be an easy fight, but looked like a poor man's Floyd Mayweather, Jr., the way he was beating on Gatti. The final punch, a picture perfect straight right hand, damn near tore Gatti's top lip off.

The ref was counting, and if Gatti had gotten up, woulda let the fight go on. But the New Jersey boxing commissioner, Larry Hazzard, jumped in the ring, walked over to the ref, and told him to stop counting and stop the fight.
 
The first fight was a vicious KO, as well. Kermit Cintron obliterated Walter Mathysse inside 2 rounds.

Casual fans had to love these fights.
 



I thought that Gomez looked familiar. Gatti talked all that noise and got his butt kick. Congrats to Gomez and dont you see the Sugarman about really go to the bank with the contender series. :happydance:
 
Gotti is washed up, and did the right thing by calling it quits. I was SUppose to go to the Miss. coast this weekend to watch Roy Jones fight but I had a death in the family.
 
I thought Gomez would win this one. Of all the contender boxers he and Sergio Mora impressed me the most. The rest looked average. I don't know if Gatti could have been Gomez in his prime. Let's face it Gatti was never a great boxer. He just had a lot of heart.

I was really impress by the Paul Williams kid in the last fight.

Gatti's problem is his power does not follow him to welterweight. He KO'd a lot of guys were outclassing him. But at welterweight, his punch doesn't affect them like it did the smaller weights he won world titles at. Gomez reportedly told HBO that Gatti was smaller and he expected to beat him up because of it. Gomez probably lost 20-25 pounds to make 147.
