Well, you bring up a good topic. In my mind, I would indeed validate The Supremes and Nile Rogers being in vs. Diana Ross individually and Chic. It's interesting that Diana Ross is in as part of the original Supremes with Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard, but not in as an individual herself.
On the other hand, Nile Rodgers is in as an individual, but not as a part of Chic.
I friggin LOVE The Chic Corporation's production. It's like rainbow sherbet of funk, disco and pop. Their influence on R&B, electronica and pop is immense, but sometimes slept on.Well, you bring up a good topic. I do think overtime, the laters will eventually be inducted.
Still a deeper interest for me and slightly off the topic is the work that Nile did for Diana as a solo artist. I feel his work (in collaboration with Benard Edwards) for her (Upside Down, I'm Coming Out) was Diana at her very best. Yet when I read about what happened behind the scenes, she wasn't feeling the music and did her best to try to change arrangements. In fact, I continued to learn that Rogers and Edwards almost decided to have their names removed from production credits. Neverthless, those joints became classic. I only liked a few others songs that she did as a solo artist (Love Hangover, Muscles, and her attempt to be relevant with that new jack swing joint Overtime). Eventually she hooked up with Rogers again but that magic could not be repeated.
Now when you keep in mind of why Diana is not in as individual, the above could be the reason. Her diva and bossy attitude may have turned people off, never mind that to many she was just a corporate trophy for Barry, so it seemed.
All I can say about Nile is his work as a producer is just extraordinary. Such a range of artists in so many styles. It (his work) speaks for itself....
