Are we seeing a building boom in the SWAC?

W/in the last 10 years, who has upgraded their athletic facilities?

1. GSU - new bball arena
2. SU - upgrading football venue, soccer venue, baseball venue (? did I miss another)
3. UAPB - completed football fieldhouse addition
4. AlaSU - new football venue
5. PVAMU - new football venue, new soccer venue, new t&f venue, new baseball venue, new softball venue
6. MVSU - new basketball arena
7. sTu - upgraded football venue
8. AAMU - ?
9. Alcorn St - ?
10. JSU - ?

To answer your question: JSU went through its building phase in the early 2000s. Memorial has undergone some upgrades in the last few years. Of course there's always a need for further upgrades(we really need a new athletic complex) but that's not happening without more money. It's not like these things are being built with alumni donations. I could be wrong of course, but my guess is 99.9 percent of all swac facility upgrades are being financed by some combination of student fees, debt, state funds and federal money. And it was all done out of necessity. TP is right about none of this being anything to boast about. Kinda like financing a new car after yours broke down. Necessary but I'm not about to run out and brag about my new car note.

Got it jsu99. You all paid your now obselete & raggedy car off in "the early 2000s." Clear as mud. Nothing to boast upon lol.

Lol @lost in the wilderness.

We definitely need a new football practice facility which we are attempting to raise private funds for. That's the only way I'm in favor of us getting one. The Payton Center was built with student fees. Memorial and its subsequent upgrades was paid for by the state. The baseball/soccer field/tennis complex built in the early 2000s - not sure how it was financed but I'm pretty sure it was public money. The only privately funded venture was the football weight room and locker room. Both need upgrading but it hasn't stopped us from getting good recruits either.

As for our facilities being obsolete because they were built in the early 2000s - we can't afford to get in an arms race where we are doing steady yearly upgrades. Generally hbcus do these one shot deals with public money cause that's all we can do. I know PVs stadium was funded in part by student fees - something I'm not in favor of at JSU.

And private funds via our supporting foundation. Has jsu finally crept into the new millennium and created the same type org? :D Mercy...public tax $$$ to support athletics. Damned academic support bottom 10 of 51 lol.

how much is this "supporting" foundation chipping in and how much will be left in the account in September?
I know you don't know the answer but I just wanted to ask for fun.

BTW, looks like a little bit of truth shut this thread down... LOL

Funny. I literally just looked at all supporting accts yesterday evening. :D I don't know the answer (to you or anyone else not graduated PV purple/gold :D ) . If you were a grad of PVAMU, I'd gladly share the 411. :D I'm highly prejudiced.

Pubic not for profit university = public documentation. ;)

Even those foundations Form 990s are public information.

You can go to Guidestar.org and find that information pretty easily. No smoke and mirrors when you have to drop information according to law.

We're transparent so I don't know what ghost possessed TigerLies into asking those superfluous questions. s...m...g....d...h.... I take it he never had Computer Literacy 101 @ JSU. lol :D lol

Not to mention the fact that the PV Foundation was established right after Panthers had already donated over 30million in a previous capital campaign. Not to mention that PV easily has the largest endowment in the SWAC. Questioning the Panthers' capacity to give to the University's efforts probably isn't the best attack considering...
