Are HBCUs putting too much stock into having nice facilities?

Smh. When did I say Grambling had the worst facilities in the Swac? Smh
Right here.

LOL!! I picked Grambling because there facilities are worst than ours. If our facilities were worst than Grambling I would've said ours. On top of that Grambling is a winning program so that's the truth. Key word "worst" Grambling has the worst facilities but they still are able to win.

Right here.
Not necessarily saying it's " the worst in the Swac" I was saying that our facilities r far better than Grambling ok. Grambling facilities are really really bad ok, but that's doesn't stop them from being in the hunt for a championship or getting recruits. Does that sum it up for u?

Alabama and Alcorn both have a dining halls. It is all about self-discipline. HBCUs players can eat free in the Dining Hall just like Alabama Students eat free as well. It is your own responsibility to take care of your body.

Alabama has a Squat Rack. Alcorn has a Squat Rack.

Alabama has a Bench Press. Alcorn has a Bench Press.

Alabama has Bleachers. Alcorn has bleachers.

Alabama has a field to do pyrotechnic and speed mechanic drills on. Alcorn has a field to do pyrotechnic and speed mechanic drills on.

Again, it's all about self-discipline and actually putting in the work.

you can't possibly be THIS dense...........

They have not won the SWAC. You think schools like GSU count division championships as "winning"?

But you said they haven't "won" since complaining about the facilities your previous post, which is totally different than staying they hadn't won the SWAC.

Grambling and Alcorn have been the two best teams in the SWAC since 2014.

And I know the standards are high at most schools, but it can't be all or nothing. You can't overlook where the program was in 2013 -- as about as low as it has ever been -- and say winning a division title and playing for the SWAC championship two years later doesn't count for something or doesn't mean anything.

It counts Kendrick but as the players have stated...."we are much better than just going to a championship game."

Your premise is good, BH and I too once thought like you: pride, self-drive, and desire would recruit the best and they would attend here (@ PV). In fact, that was one of the reasons why we stopped offering athletic scholarships start of 1991. After a few years of being throttled in ALL sports, we quickly saw that in order to be competitive, we had to be competitive across the board. A "pretty" campus w/ sound academics wasn't enough to attract the TAG student-athletes that we need(ed) in order to compete.

After not fielding a team fall 1990, we were excited about the new possibilities of PV football fall 1991, 1000% walk-ons, as we thought it should be. A few of us lol worked feverishly behind the scenes attempting to secure what we thought were TAGers for football - begging actually. The turning point for me personally was that very first game back in the SWAC, vs Grambling St @ their place, HOFer coach Robinson across the field, and @ the coin toss @ mid-field, I noticed something glaringly wrong... GSU had a big #79 that stood all of 6'5" 300+ lbs of muscle and our scrawny lil' #68 (G) was all of 6'1" and 260lbs of fat w/ belly smh :( . I knew what the first play of the game would be if we recv'd a kickoff - a reverse that the guys/coaching staff told me would score and it did. We jumped out to a 7-0 lead and shocked the stadium lol. I revel'd for a minute and then the REAL hit. 84 points by GSU later, I was starting to get it and made sure I conveyed that knowledge to the others: we were wrong. School pride, self-drive, and desire aren't enough to persuade a TAGer to your school AND we must be competitive across the board in coaching, facilities, scholarships, support, and S&C/nutrition in order to secure the best of the best so that we can compete. It took 20+ years but we finally have all of that which is competitive w/ any D-I FCS in america, HBCU or PWCU. It's easier to train a thoroughbred to run in the kentucky derby than to train a mule to run in the same race. So, what are you recruiting/attracting?

Forgot to mention, we are NOT one of those schools that has a taj mahal for athletic venues w/ raggedy, decrepit, obselete, et al negatives academic buildings or campus infrastructure. We took care of ALL of that FIRST and FOREMOST; then we built the athletic venues as icing on the cake. There's not enough bandwidth to explain all the new buildings/improved buildings on campus @ this moment. But one undeniable fact is very telling, our president, w/ his soon to start 14th year of svc to PVAMU, attended over 17+, yes seventeen plus, differing facility/building ribbon cutting ceremonies over the last 5.5 years and he is again slated to attend yet another this upcoming Saturday. Most universities will have twosies and threesies here and there but 17+ in a 5.5 year stretch w/ 4 more to go as of Saturday? lol Amazing.

Yea man I don't play that disrespect stuff. I don't care what school it is. If he wants me to b an imposter I will that and some TO HIM AND WHOEVER ELSE!

Calm down dez. He meant no harm man. It's in his spirit to be a hater and a homer so you have to excuse him for he knows not what he sayeth or doeth, oftentimes. :D

We know you're a true blue jag through and through. That's all that matters brah.

This year? lol

Naw man, try year #3. Are you one of those longhorn supporters who thought charlie strong was gonna' wave a wand and magically make those ppl contenders in yr one? lol Be realistic smh.

FTR, and I've seen our team this fall up close (literally), this is the BEST PV football team I've ever witnessed from top to bottom since I followed them in the early 90s(on paper). In that regard, w/ what we have now in yr 2 of recruiting, we would not get the attention of those who came w/out the facilities and great coaching/nutrition plans. So in that regard, yes, great facilities played a major role in landing those 2 big/fast cornhusker txfers lolololololololololol.

that right there is why I'm closing my laptop right now, I'm done

stability is KEY

Brother Imma keep quiet. Smh

I can see PV having a rise in student population due to their new upgrades in athletics...I dont see the problem in wanting and having nice things if done with a clear and concise plan that will not financially put the university in a bad spot. This hood mentality has got to stop.

There is a lot of merit in your statement. We'll find out in the next few weeks, once admissions settles down, what was what w/ our new incoming record setting freshmen class. Some of the #s I've heard are almost unbelievable but there is truth in a lot of it because we have a HUGE housing shortage @ the moment due to the influx of incoming freshmen.

Yeah but Alabama has great facilities and Nick Saban to recruit the kids he needs at his level. If his facilities looked like Alcorn instead of what they look like now. He would have hell recruiting against his level of competition.

You do realize the FCS powers that be all have good facilities. ND State facility is not crappy.

Look at what Montana is up too. Donation came in 2014

Alabama has football players. Alcorn has football players. Alabama has a football coach. Alcorn has a football coach.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR OUR PROGRAMS NOT TO PERFORM!!!

You will not perform if you don't have good enough players. Having facilities is part of the equation. Alabama has Nick Saban. Alabama has some of the Nations most highly recruited players. Alabama has some of the best facilities. All that is a good formula to win. Not just having ball players, not just having a coach. All of these areas need to be on point to win consistently.

Ahhhh.......I see some of you have brought the need for core talented players into the thread. Talented Players...there are no such things as "prized" recruits or "talented" players.

Could an Alabama Offensive Lineman be successful at a Big 12 school like...Texas Tech? Lol. Read deep.

Braveheart want Alcorn practice facilities to look like this.
