Are HBCUs putting too much stock into having nice facilities?

It doesn't mean we'll win championships but it sure as hell does attract the caliber of athletes we'll need to win a championship. We weren't getting those players before last year... Just this past summer alone we had over 70 unannounced recruits show up to campus (and that's with the stadium still a work in progress) for a visit. That has NEVER happened for us and it doesn't happen without facilities....

It also doesn't hurt when you can take a player into a locker room that is one of the best in FCS and on par with some FBS schools...

All of that looks good but will see how that's duplicated on the field this year. A lot of guys get the finest woman but the key is can he keep her. Will see how a good looking weight room makes y'all successful this season.

Did you read my first sentence or did you just look at the pictures? Apparently you didn't. Smh!

Alabama has football players. Alcorn has football players. Alabama has a football coach. Alcorn has a football coach.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR OUR PROGRAMS NOT TO PERFORM!!!

So you are saying that we are on the same level as a Top 5 BCS football program?

Keep believing that! Read $40 Million Dollar Slaves and a paragraph whereas Bill Rhoden states how HBCUs failed to upgrade their athletic infrastructures when they were getting top athletes and now are paying catch up with mid-majors. .
What we don't factor in is that even when were getting top flight athletes, we still weren't generating top flight revenue. We still didn't make a lot of money at the gates, we saw very little money from merchandising, TV deals were porous and alumni giving was probably worse than what it is now. So the money just wasn't there to upgrade infrastructure. Nowadays, we still have no money and we are losing recruits. Let the FBS and the P5's get into an arms race with each other.

Rather than focusing on catching up, we need to stay in our lanes and focus on doing what's best for our schools and not worrying about what other schools have. UCF got a $1.5M donation from a student's parent yesterday to build a new baseball facility. That ain't happening at JSU, Howard, FAMU or anywhere else. We don't have it like that, so why compare ourselves to that?

I couldn't find any words to respond to that.. Lol!

Braveheart can't either....

Look at this

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/02/alabama_athletics_profit_2014.html

Alabama athletics reports $33 million operating surplus in 2013-14 as football drives huge revenue

According to the documents obtained by AL.com, Alabama's athletics department generated $33,050,145 more than it spent in 2012-13. That's up from the $27.2 million surplus in 2012-13 and continued the trend of surpluses in recent years. It hasn't operated at a loss in the last 10 years, according to documents obtained through public records requests.

I get so tired of folks trying to compare the two.

This year? lol

Naw man, try year #3. Are you one of those longhorn supporters who thought charlie strong was gonna' wave a wand and magically make those ppl contenders in yr one? lol Be realistic smh.

FTR, and I've seen our team this fall up close (literally), this is the BEST PV football team I've ever witnessed from top to bottom since I followed them in the early 90s(on paper). In that regard, w/ what we have now in yr 2 of recruiting, we would not get the attention of those who came w/out the facilities and great coaching/nutrition plans. So in that regard, yes, great facilities played a major role in landing those 2 big/fast cornhusker txfers lolololololololololol.

Examine our record since the team boycotted. The next year we beat PV and was literally a few plays from being in the SWAC Championship. The next year we defeated both SU and PV but lost in the SWAC championship. Yet, our facilities are much worse than both schools.

So would you say it's coaching?

They were bound for Sam Houston or SFA if we didn't secure them. Today PV is considered a choice at the same competitive level as other D-1 FCS schools in Texas...and Louisiana *wink wink*.
