Are HBCUs putting too much stock into having nice facilities?

BRAVEHEART123

The Clown Prince of Crime
I keep bringing this video up because we keep comparing ourselves to FBS Schools. Fast Forward to 10:40 and listen to Cochran's response...

As Cochran said, as nice as that facility is....nothing really changes when it comes to the hard work in Strength and Conditioning. Squat, Bench, Powerclean, etc. nothing has really changed. HBCUs in my opinion are putting too much stock in the AMENITIES of a facility instead of the BASIC USAGE and PURPOSE of then facility. You mean to tell me FBS Schools are "that" much better when we as HBCUs basically already have the same equipment? And don't we already have Nutrition Programs/Majors at our schools already?

I believe so. I'm from Mississippi. South Panola has the smallest weight room I've seen to date. It was equivalent to an jps high school weight room. Nothing special at all. Its all about what you do in the weight room that makes you champions. As we no for those who follow high school South Panola is one of the best programs in the country. Yea it's nice that PV and etc has nice facilities but it doesn't mean that they will win conference championships.

Keep believing that! Read $40 Million Dollar Slaves and a paragraph whereas Bill Rhoden states how HBCUs failed to upgrade their athletic infrastructures when they were getting top athletes and now are paying catch up with mid-majors. Facilities and uniforms plays a role in recruiting. - You know damn well that HBCUs do not have dieticians and nutritionists on staff as well as separate dinning facilities for athletes with meals tailored to their required dietary intake.

It doesn't mean we'll win championships but it sure as hell does attract the caliber of athletes we'll need to win a championship. We weren't getting those players before last year... Just this past summer alone we had over 70 unannounced recruits show up to campus (and that's with the stadium still a work in progress) for a visit. That has NEVER happened for us and it doesn't happen without facilities....

It also doesn't hurt when you can take a player into a locker room that is one of the best in FCS and on par with some FBS schools...

Alabama and Alcorn both have a dining halls. It is all about self-discipline. HBCUs players can eat free in the Dining Hall just like Alabama Students eat free as well. It is your own responsibility to take care of your body.

Alabama has a Squat Rack. Alcorn has a Squat Rack.

Alabama has a Bench Press. Alcorn has a Bench Press.

Alabama has Bleachers. Alcorn has bleachers.

Alabama has a field to do pyrotechnic and speed mechanic drills on. Alcorn has a field to do pyrotechnic and speed mechanic drills on.

Again, it's all about self-discipline and actually putting in the work.

Facilities attract recruits. The great players are the backbone of any successful program.

There are no such thing as "prized" recruits. Great Players are made by Great Coaches. Again, the best Coaches make the Worst players better. If a recruit doesn't want to play at our HBCUs, fine. I guarantee you there are 10-50 more High School Players in the US that will sign and play for our HBCUs.

I rather sign a kid from a small high school that wants to be at my HBCU than sign some recruit from a "suspect rating system" who is nonchalant to play at our HBCUs.

Again, you all are focusing only on the AMENITIES PORTION and not the actual WORK that must be put into using those facilities.

The Squat exercise hasn't changed much. The Bench Press hasn't changed much. Pyrotechnic and Speed Mechanics haven't changed much.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses.

A field for firework displays???

Another name for exercises that work on the explosiveness of an athlete (I.e. Getting off the line faster on the snap count, running sprints with A+ Technique starting off, Vertical Jump, etc.)

try coaching somewhere without a stadium, moldy weightroom, etc. and bring a high school kid on campus....then stay there when they bash your vision in person and on social media

If they do...fine. If you don't want to be here, we don't need you. There are 10-50 more high school kids chomping at the bit for the opportunity.

What is the first thing ANY and EVERY Athlete must do before any exercise? I'll give you Hint: Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four.

Square biz....

Also I know a university that has a certain yoga instructor on retainer to teach their players yoga once a week. They are actually contemplating offering her a professorship just to do that. Now tell me what SWAC school is doing that. There is a conference USA program that has their personal dentist for the players.

I think Athletically, he means stretching before and after a workout (at least I think so)

No it goes so much deeper than stretching. Some of these school are literally STUDYING these players with professors publishing findings and getting funding.

Braveheart simply put you are living in a Mickey Mouse world when you try and compare a BCS program like LSU, Oregon, Florida, Alabama and so on to any SWAC school. There is no comparison.

you'll be fired after 2 years when you realize your sending Toyota Yaris' to battle BMW's fully loaded

If I am a Coach, it is the responsibility of me and my staff to make sure you are a better athlete and football player than the previous year and so forth. You never achieve the title of "Perfect Football player"....but you sure are going to try.

No comparison in what context? lol
