The Red Wolves were paid $950,000 for Saturday's loss. In two weeks, they'll receive $1 million more to play Nebraska in Lincoln. The paydays are critical to balancing Arkansas State's $13.3 million budget, and yet potentially devastating to a fledgling program.

No. 18 Oklahoma State romped to an 84-0 rout, handing Savannah State its eighth straight defeat going back to last season.
"We had to make an even bigger line for Florida State," Cantor said, "because we think Florida State is better than Oklahoma State."
Savannah State (0-1) scheduled these first two games strictly for the money. The school is collecting paychecks totaling $860,000, which will go a long way toward helping the financially strapped athletic program meet its total budget of $5.1 million.

I've always wondered how is it that some of these schools I see getting 800-900K or more for their money games but hardly any of ours are more than 500K...

Do we really jump at the 1st or 2nd offer these schools offer us? Ole Miss (bad example though since they don't pay SWAC schools) paid Boise State 950K... yet hardly any of the SWAC schools can get half of that from MSU or USM... I'm sure Maine got more as well...

I know that but Maine ain't and I remember them getting more than what some of our schools have got to play the big boys (not the Sun Belt money games... the TCU, MSU, OSU money games)

If I'm not mistaken, we're getting 600K to be drubbed by Georgia.
 
We can't negotiate much above $500k... I tried to tell some Gram folks that in prior years and they said otherwise. The TCU payout was $400 which was a good payday for a trip that's driving distance.
 
YES, EXPOSE IT!!! EXPOSE THE ROTTEN MESS THE SWAC HAS SUBJECTED ITSELF TOO!!! This is why I started that thread about these teams paying for our traveling expenses (My only thing was lowering our payout to have them pay for traveling expenses). But now this mess has come out...:lol::lol::smh::smh::smh:

Only when ALL OF IT is exposed will we be able to adapt and become better.

Yeah I can understand that. Just like I saw how much JSU was paid by MSU. That's a couple of hours driving. Spend the night. Drive back home the next morning.

Now getting 400K to go to somewhere like UCLA or Oregon... I don't know...

Next year, Ohio State is paying us $850,000

Thanks for stepping in FAM4lyfe, I suspected we could do better. I still don't like these type of games though, but if we're going to take horse whoopings we need to make them pay for it.

And unless we have been winning OOC games, I don't see a reason to play MAC schools for payouts. You take 70% of the beating for 30% of the money from a BCS school. If you are selling ass, two extra touchdowns are worth $250K. Now if you are winning OOC games and think you can win, take the MAC game.

Damn, yall going to play my other Alma mater in year 2 of the Urban renewal when the probation is lifted......Whew. Good Luck with that and will a newly formed 100 will be going? Good luck with that too. Since those Big 10 bands are what HBCU bands patterned themselves after.
 
Reggie Barlow was on a CSS show with the Two Live Stews last week talking about this subject. He stated that OSU wanted to play us instead of SSU but when the SWAC-MEAC Challenge came through we backed out of the game. He basically said that the money looks and sounds good but the expected results of the outcome wasn't worth the money. After looking at highlights or lowlights of Savannah State getting trampled the past two weeks I hope we never play one of these games.
 
I honestly was proud we were able to score three times on the OU first team. We blundered other opportunities including a pick 6 that was dropped. If most of us played the top FCS programs, the beatings would be almost as bad.
 
My problem with the payday games (other than morale issues) are expenses. Do expenses come out of the check?
