No we were not. The NCAA had not conducted their reviews and made any decisions. That's like saying technically Penn State was on probation during that Fall when the investigation was going on. Same for USC, Ohio State and Miami. Not to mention the players in question were not on SU's current team. Stop reaching for straws. Had PV been in the SCG. They way yall were playing dumb ball. They would have beaten yall too.
Maybe if 9 SWAC schools are banned that's the only a certain school can win a SWAC Championship.
I remember that Pop. I was with you on that.
The bottom line is our schools are hard headed. Big Worm spoke about the same thing with classes his players needed to take were not offered for them to come to practice. Pete said the same thing. I guess he let his players skip them classes.
Our players are not dumb. The issue is the other schools allow their players to major in whatever they can steer them to as TBF has said and they schedule all the classes Athlete friendly at those schools. Some HBCUs have figured that out. The other thing is some schools do not care about winning in the MEAC so they will recruit kids who are actually smart to play ball. I keep telling folks that we need to use the Service Academy model. Especially Navy. They win at the FBS level with players that are not FBS caliber. But them mofos are smart as hell. So they can be coached up to do the right things and stay disciplined on the FIELD which helps keep them in games or win games. If they were FCS they would win the FCS title every year. LOL.
Or as some have said. Move to D2. Now I don't blame the SWAC for saying fugg the NCAA ban. They don't have our best interest at heart and we are being foolish to sit here and say we are embarrassing Black America. The PWCs don't care either. Look at UCONN. They just won the NCAA title after being APR banned. All they did was SPEND money to fix their issues. Those kids ain't any smarter. They just are playing the game the rest of them bigger schools with resources are. Some stuff we are killing ourselves with incompetent people who don't know how to deal with this APR stuff. We have hired wrong at many of our schools. I would imagine the MEAC and their EAST COAST mentality don't allow them to hire too many pookie and ray rays who somebody's cousins or local folks who have no business working at our schools. I spent a lot of time at Hampton during my Navy days in Norfolk and met a lot of their administration back then. They had a first class run school when it came to academics across the board. Not surprised when you don't see them, Norfolk State, Howard, Morgan State etc showing up on this APR stuff. The only one having issues is FAMU. Ironically the most Southern or the MEAC schools outside of BCU in Daytona.
Pop, I know you don't like some of them Howard and Hampton people. LOL.

If we can get our act together without a peep coming from the jsu athletic dept regarding apr bans then surely everyone else can...
Now in light of these apr scores let's look back on alabama state's decision to only pay for summer school for athletes who are struggling academically. does that decision still make sense? 851 apr? make sense? I understand the article that talks about partial scholarship athletes struggles, and that rule should be modified in some way to differentiate between full and partial scholarship players, but how many guys had to drop out because they were on partial scholarship at bama state? either they are committed or they are not.... that said in baseball I believe it's emmanuel marrero graduated in 3 years and will get drafted... that is something to talk about.
You all did receive that $900K grant from the NCAA specifically for this. I applaud the NCAA for doing that for JSU and I think TxSU received a smaller grant for the same thing.

On the folks we hire... there was a woman in the SU athletic dept who used to work on the academic support side... either compliance or advising athletes on courses for their majors. I think SUJagtilidie may have alluded to her (among others) needing to be removed because of her screw ups. My daughter who is an SU athlete talks about how bad this woman was screwing up people's paperwork but Broussard/Llorens were never allowed to get rid of her until this current issue came up. Too late now!!!
So why didn't it help Texas Southern?

You weren't banned in 2007 and what happened. Get your players academic house in order. It's not about sports ALL the time.
^^^TROLL LIKE STATEMENTS^^^^ i know he was talking about JSU who has 3 titles in the last 20 years! So must be Alcorn or Valley...
That happened to JC his last year, he decided to take the classes and graduate instead of coming to spring practices. Pete & the OC tried to make him feel bad about doing it and they didn't give him a shot of playing his 5th year when he was enrolled in grad school.
Hit dogs always holla!!!!
Commonsense says you had to be talking about JSU because we're not in jeopardy of being banned in any sport and out of all the eligible teams, JSU has the most stable athletic program.
Plus JSU stands alone apart from the "coalition", most of whom are on the banned list.
Nor is Grambling!!!!
Thats one of the perks of working in Higher Ed. folks do not get fired no matter what school u are at...

Their athletic program isn't as stable as JSU's.
