Not necessarily. Summer school isn't an issue here because the APR measures the different semester. As long as you're a full time student(which I believe is still 12 hours at JSU) and eligible(which is 2.0, correct me if I'm wrong), you won't count negatively against the APR. Now if you can't maintain at least a 2.0, then you don't need to be in anyone's school. That goes for all students, not just athletes.
The problem at most schools is not a lack of resources, but a lack of will and want. I put that on the coaches first, then the administrations. Half the battle is just making sure your players are showing up for class. Lazy azz coaches. Comegy expects a call from the faculty when his kids miss class. What??? Why doesn't HE take the time to make sure his guys are going to class. That's half the battle. The other half is not removing kids from scholarship because someone "better" comes along. Luckly we've made improvement in those areas. But we never should've been in this mess to begin with.
The problem is that most of these coaches feel that what happens off the field, short of NCAA violations, have no effect on their job security. For them its all about wins and losses. If the school says a guy is eligible to play, throw him out there. Don't worry about what he's doing once he's in school, just make sure he gets in.
