Any golfers out there?

Couldnt have said it better. Just pick up the club and swing. Keep your eye on the ball and your arms straight. Oh! Dont turn your wrist and use your hips for power. Dont bring your head up to soon, keep your head down and let it come up on your upswing when your body turns. Keep your feet spread about shoulder's length unless you're chipping. Dont try to kill the ball on every swing. Develop your own rhythm and let loose. Let's see. Did I forget anything?

Right elbow in close to your body if you are right-handed, left if you are a lefty. For irons hit DOWN on the ball, do not try to scoop it up...the club will do the work for you. For woods, use a sweeping motion instead of hitting down...but still do not scoop. In the sand, hit about 2 inches BEHIND the ball and under it...you should basically scoop up a lot of sand (still don't use a "scooping" motion though).

LET THE CLUBS DO THE WORK...

Do the type of golf ball matter? I purchased some Maxfli's and Wilsons. They are both suppose to be for distance. The Maxflis were on sale for 24 for 19.99 and the Wilson's were on sale for 24 for 15.99. I haven't tried them yet.

Yes. Find one that works and stick with it. I purchase the Maxfli Noodles and I get Titlelist Pro V1 form a play it again store here in Memphis. 12 dollars for a dozen. I get balls from companies all the time(I'm in Transportation) and I will use those only if I'm out of my normal balls. I've been playing with a box of Calaway Warbirds(sp) I got from one of my carriers and they are nice.

No they don't make much of a difference at this point for you as long as you are using new balls and not old "dead" balls. Now, they don't have to be new right out of the back, but make sure they ain't water logged or all cut up.

I like Top Flite XL, Titleist, Maxfli, and Slazenger

I think the type of ball can make a slight difference, but if you are a beginner, or cannot put spin on your shots, it doesn't make a difference. I myself prefer the Nike golf balls, but Pinnacle Golds have been good to me as well.

That's not a bad price for a starter set. Good luck on the range! I'm heading out to the course this weekend for my brother's batchelor party, which should be a drunken good time in the sun.

Yes, the type matters, but I hope they won't matter for you for a long time. I still say stay off the course until you learn to have some control over the ball with at least 4-5 clubs. We all know that you will want to get out on the course, but resist the temptation. You will save yourself a whole lot of frustration. When you go out on the course, play with X-outs - reclaimed balls. They are cheaper so WHEN you lose them, the sting will not be as bad.

In the meantime, find a public course so you can practice your chipping and putting. Use your Maxfli's and Wilson's there. Find out which brand off ball you like better. Brands have certain tendencies. Buy the brand you like and keep practicing.

In a year or so controlling the flight of the ball will start to mean more to you. Then you can experiment with balls again. What you will be trying to find is the ball that gives you the best combination of ball flight and putting.

Again, wait a while. Take it slowly.

that's a good set bro. Also go out and pickup this book/dvd call Simply Golf Back to the Basics by Steve Bann. I picked mines up at Borders. It has great info/tips

On the first time out on a 9 hole course par 35 I scored a 67. Is that decent or is that expected. Oh yeah, I made it through the course using the same ball.

Do you all wear clothes made for golf (Nike, Under Armor Ping) or just whatever. The golf clothes appear to keep you cooler in hot weather.

Take Lessons. Even if you only take a few just to get someone to tell you what you are doing wrong and how to correct it, take some. Once you develop those bad habits it is almost impossible to get rid of them.

comfortable clothes.... they just usually happen to be golf clothes because a lot of them are made with that dri-fit material.
