When I was in the band, folks used to just "creep in" songs too. Nothing new about that. Often, I think its a confidence problem. Does the band TRUELY BELIEVE in what it's doing?Well i play sax, so Brass is what u really can hear....
Our band is just not consistent, where not aggressive and we dont practice hard on blowing and musical dynamics.. Doc preach bout it 24/7 but the band just never grasps it.. The most of our arrangements be Junior Highish... so i mean... When u let beggining band playing players in your band, or when u switch every brass player every year, or when u have people with low skills and like 3 months experience on horns play it, this is whut u get and all of this happens at GRAM...
The SWAC challenege was to me the Best game in the regular 06 season, sound an all.. den as the season progressed we jus fell off! Like always!
GSU's overall sound to me is immature and uncontrolled. Not consistent and most of the time sounds very Highschoolish.. We dont attatck the first note.. most of our songs everybody jus creep in like .. "OO i aint know we was bout to play" and when your band jus focuses on the last note, you know datz BAD!
LOL ahhh hear u go..... So the whole SWAC tries to sound like SU.. so the whole SWAC wanna be SU na.. jus cuz somebody play full, its SU mimicking.. SO no other SWAC band can open up...
Right, damn u must like to argue.. u gotta add yo 2 cents to EVERYTHING. An damn i aint even been on here long enough an u the most annoying already
You must have just started listening to the SWAC.. Even up to my crab year, only one bandin the SWAC played with that type of intensity.
But was always critqued for it, because other bands INCLUDING the band on that clip didn't do it.. Bottom line is I can smell BS from a mile away. Either these programs didn't like what they were doing are they were loving what SU was doing.... Pick one.
But funny thing is, these OTHER bands sounded a lot better at not doing what SU was doing... SU is designed to do what we do.

D to E above the staff is ok. Even though Saxes have F# now ,...I never write that high. F and F# above the staff,.....naw!!!!Im still working on it. I still have to do the saxamaphones. :read: ,....Superman!!!Look man, this is gRambling's problem from my honest opinion when I hear them:
1. brass players lack tone quality- I can TELL no ONE does lip slurs over there as a section, not in tune, can NOT project correctly, horrible phrasing, lack of concentration- the bones are the worst section in my opinion. You can live or die with your bone section. If they suck, you die.
2. trpts- never ENOUGH of them to do what gRambling's arranger does. Simple as that.
3. woodwinds, gRambling actually has an okay woodwind section, but the presentation makes them look like a hill of jumping beans in the stands and on the fields. Get a position of attention and KEEP IT. The juking is okay but the position of attention THROWS everything off. No one looks alike.
4. Set up. GSU ALWAYS sounds better when the tubas are at the side. how you all have phasing problems with tubas at the top I will never understand but for some reason the band's overall tone and projection changes for the better when they're at the sides.
5. Orchesis- too few, too sorry
6. arrangements- there isn't much problem there but there IS too much problem with the instrumentation. You have a few trpts and a low brass monstrosity for arrangements that should feature an instrumentation like this:
32 bones
46 trpts
22 sousas
24 bell fronts
24 mellos
AT LEAST 24 saxes- because your arrangements have things that the saxes can add to the color (which did NOT take place on Torture- just don't play that because your brass doesn't have the discipline and your saxes have stuff that is counter productive to anything your mellos are doing)
18 clarinets
16 piccs/flutes
If you all would focus on just filling up the horn like FAMU with the numbers I gave above or add 12 to low brass and 12 to trpt from there you would sound like a really balanced, moderately powerful, in tune, clean, disciplined band.
On the field- you can't march 8-5 because your style has no discipline. In your drills your transitions suck because everyone's knee-lifting bicycle style the whole way through. Reteach the style and structure the drills to have a more disciplined mark time. And get all of the horns pointing the same way, SHAT!
I think we all know it WASN'T loving what SU was doing...because SU wasn't the pioneer of LOUD playing. Realize something son, other bands exist and HAVE always existed other than SU....I know it pains you to hear that but....I'm sorry, it's true.
Ridiculous. I've been gone for a minute and come back to the same ol stuff. GSU need to do this, GSU need to do that, SU..... Shut the fuc up. Maine, as I said the last time I was here, GSU is who GSU is. An unquestionable force. SU dude, analyze this: in the 2001 Bayou Classic BOTB, why did yall run GSU's signature song for that year(Contagious). Then, they cranked on yall just to show you how to really play it. Why is it that in 2006, yall just barely got by JSU, and Grambling has been taking them in the fifth quarter for the past few years. Yall repeated songs that yall had already played and everything. When TxSU saw yall, they demolished yall's sound. Hell yall had to really struggle with PV, but both of them remained atleast neck and neck with GSU. Your legacy, not Grambling's. Not even close. See, yall can blow all you want, but does that make you a real band. Hell, this past Bayou Classic game, GSU was blowin on yall. Nevermind yall though. To anybody who is critical of GSU. I agree with most of the stuff, but ask yourself this, what about my band? See, in the SWAC, the one band that really gives GSU true musical competition is JSU. AAMU has their times, but these two have real battles. As a guy said on the marching network, people "hate Grambling, because they are Grambling." They honestly wish they had the reputation that GSU has. They realize that without Grambling, they wouldn't have their exposure. They wish that they highlighted the first Super Bowl. But, hey, u guys never talk about that. Analyze your own band. I could point out the issues with yall, but I'm not one to throw stones. (or in SU's case, throwing fists and instruments, but okay) Respect them. Because at the end of the day, the bands that sleep on them are the ones that usually get blowed out of their stadium by them. Besides that fact, thet still respect the rest of the SWAC.
Let me disect this piece of isht right quick:
1. In 2001 "Contagious" was EVERY HBCU and HIGH SCHOOL band Signature song, who died and told your dumb ass it was GSU's signature song?...
What you meant was, that was GSU's best SOUNDING song compared to the rest of the crap yall played that year.
2. And who told your dumb arse we barely got by ANY band in 2006.. That is some silly BULL you want to believe, because you know your band got by no one ... Bands in general have a "I don't give fug" attitude when they play GSU.. So yes when they play SU they will put up way more fight than for GSU.. Why? I don't know, and I don't agree with that attitude... But it is what it is. And for the record from what I saw on them clips, JSU did get yall, but JSU done had much better performances than that of that particular day, but yet they still got yall.. so what does that say about your program?!?!
And kill that pass few years crap unless you have proof of it...I seriously doubt GSU has ever taken JSU in the 5th long as you knew what a band was...
3. Now to the interesting part.. You say TxSU demolished SU sound.. Do you know how ignorant that sound son? You can get a monkey with one ear to tell you TxSU don't sound better than SU... And you can get a deaf monkey with 3 ears to tell you TxSU wasn't more powerful than SU this past year... Quit reaching son, TxSU folk that keep it real know TxSU didn't out power SU this year, but you say demolish...
You see a pattern here? Your whole life is full of lies, and not only that, it is full of exagerrations of your pitiful lies, which makes you look real pitiful and yes STUPID son..
4. You throwing other schools in the mix will not help the case that GSU is still looked at as the bottom toll of bands in the SWAC... You throwing PV in this and saying yall neck and neck with them, when PV alum even say last year was not a good year for them...
The thing is they can admit when they are not hot, because they know they have the tools to get back where they need to be.. You my brother are so used to being terrible, horrible that you have come to a point to where you don't even care how pitiful you are, you are starting to make excuses to justify your pitifulness.. You do that by trying to put other programs on your level.. A real champ don't even see a band that is on a down year being on the same level as them.. But again you my brother are used to being SUBPAR.. and it delights you to know there are other bands that had a bad year comparable to GSU's entire history ALMOST...
So to make yourself feel good, you go off to some place and bash your head on a brick until you believe your lies that these programs that are not having good years AKA having a GSU year has hung with the ultimate SU... You will for ever be stupid for thinking like that...
Final thought..
I think MOST of you GSU folk are just plain dumb when it come to marching band.. You are stuck on this tip, GSU band was the first to do this... When will you get over that hump and get your band back to sounding like it should sound..Before the New Orleans elements got there trying to change GSU from what they were to a band to get at SU because SU housed all of New Orleans finest, and GSU housed mostly New Orleans folk who in the shadows of the folk at SU. SO yall tried to make GSU a "Let's get back at them Section Leaders from New Orleans in SU band" BAND...
Right now, you jibber jabbin about SU.. and contradicting yourself in every sentence.. You said all SU do is blow, next sentence you say GSU blew on SU..
When your alum find you best clips of GSU to post, it's always clips of yall trying to SOUND like your daddy... People been saying all SU do is blow for years.. That's just a cop out to admitting SU band can do what you band do best just as good as your band and turn around a bust your band arse with what we do on the regular... It's painful manning up to that fact..
Here is an example...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3-19eY3PoQ
Get on our level before you jump out of your cage again son...
Man this dude must have type this in MS Word 1st and put some serious thought into this. I say if GSU can make you type a report than they have done their job.
Ridiculous. I've been gone for a minute and come back to the same ol stuff. GSU need to do this, GSU need to do that, SU..... Shut the fuc up. Somebody needs an identity. I know it hurts when you think you are so much better than everybody else, but no one knows but you. That's just the way life is. Grambling simply needs to go back to being Grambling and recruiting the right kids. Once that is done, they will be invited to Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, China, Europe, Africa, and ect.
SUtrp96 when still be on this board bragging about SU just like Bangdad Bob.
