I am not surprised by Atlanta or some neighborhoods in Atlanta. Although it has been a long while, I have driven down some of those streets and could say the same things.

I actually agree with this lol... having lived in both Bham is way more hood than Atlanta is. And im guessing yall dont realize that they made this list based off of crimes REPORTED... not how hood a neighborhood is. Of course there is a ton of crime on Abernathy but how many of them actually get reported is the question? I said the same thing about Atlanta though there is really nowhere here that I get that "I need to look over my shoulder" type vibe. With the projects gone the centralized crime is a lot more spread out over the city than it used to be.
I said not too long ago on here that I live in Smyrna and usually take the backside of S. Cobb down to Bolton Rd and ride through Bankhead when im going downtown and you actually see white and hispanic folk walking around out there a lot now. It's definitely NOTHING like it used to be. The crime demographics have changed a lot and no matter what MH says Clayco will see the brunt of that change in the next few years lol.

When is the last time youve been to Hollywood Rd? lol... I ride down it twice a week at least and with Hollywood Courts gone you rarely even see people over there aside from that one lil store down the street. Pittsburgh as in where they are renovating most of those shacks into 150K+ houses? I mean I see your argument but neither of those places has a whole lot of crime anymore with all the gentrification going on around there. Metro isnt the same either... years ago you could ride down that street and it was like the red light district. Now with all of those stripclubs gone except for Goldrush.. and they've run off all those hookers its DEFINITELY not the same. For the most part all I ever see over there is panhandlers.
Now Thomasville.. ill give you that one. Even with Thomasville Heights gone that lil strip is still super hood. But still I say Bham is more hood than Atlanta. With the West End, Ensley, Bessemer, Fairfield...hell even Tarrant and Homewood had hood parts. To be real the only parts of Bham that really ARENT hood are Vestavia Hills, Hoover, parts of Homewood, Center Point and 1 or two other lil places I cant remember. I think the biggest issue there is Bham still looks the exact same as it did during the civil rights movement... no progression at all. Going downtown is just so depressing aside from the UAB area. By far that was the worst place i've EVER lived with DC being a close second.

I went to church in Ensley..."Morning Star" the summers I would spend with my moms during some of my college years...
Compared to the hoods here in New Orleans.. I really don't get an uncomfortable vibe at all... but I can tell it's a place you really don't want to just mess around in though...

Yea New Orleans is just on a whole different level lol... being from there I dont think there are many places you could go ANYWHERE and feel uncomfortable. And what makes that funny is one of my coworkers.. the one that claims she went to SU...lol... is from N.O. (now that much I do believe because I can tell that accent ANYWHERE) and she moved to Bankhead when she moved here. I asked her why in the world you move to Bankhead making what you make and she said it gives her a feeling of being at home. I just gave her a blank stare and walked off.

First, for all the years I've been on here, I've always posted about the change in Clayton County. I've seen it and lived there before and after it changed. I've also lived in Atlanta. In the hood. Again, according to this survey, THE most dangerous street in Atlanta was Carter Street in Vine City. That's comical, cause I lived on that particular street at one time. Lived in the West End too. saying that to say that I'm VERY familiar with Atlanta. Not just from what I read, but what I know, like I posted a few months ago when you said GA 85 in Riverdale was rougher and more ghetto than the Bluff.
To answer your question, I rode down Hollywood Road last week. And no, it's not as blighted as it used to be, but it is a HELLUVA lot more hood than Marietta Street. Not even a comparison. Same goes with Metropolitan Ave.
Gotta ask when was the last time you were in Pittsburg. Bruh, a LOT of those houses are vacant, boarded up, overgrown lots. Same with the Bluff. Same with Vine City. A helluva lot of mortgage fraud and shady deals went on there to build a lot of those houses in those areas and now they're vacant or crime spots.
btw, I NEVER said Atl was more hood than Bham. I just know some of the areas in Bham, not all. But trust me, I know Atlanta.
And from what I've seen of Bham and Memphis, if its a hood competition between those two, Memphis wins that in a landslide. LOL

Some houses sit completely open, just a roof and walls. Squeezed between older homes on Pittsburgh's narrow streets are new, two-story homes with plywood over the windows, products of the nowhere-to-go-but-up fallacy that fed the housing boom.
"Mortgage fraud was on a rampage," says Hoffman. "People were buying homes, refinancing them, pulling out the equity and leaving them abandoned. Many houses changed hands three or four times in a year."
The new houses built in last few years weren't affordable for existing residents, he says. And now that the bubble has burst, most stand empty. Many residents have lost their homes to foreclosure or walked away from overpriced mortgages. I agree with you Bham and Memphis are wide open, but they are small towns. Where as you have a bunch of crazy things happening in small towns, they hapopen more often in major cities. That is the difference. Also you have to take into consideration that Atlanta has been gentrified, while BHAm and Memphis are still the same.

Well lets be real.. probably 90% of the dangerous neighborhoods ARE black.. with the exception being hispanics out west, Chicago and Texas. Its sad but its a reality. If you look at the dangerous neighborhoods here pretty much ALL of them are dominantly black areas. Projects...black. Summer Hill...black. Pittsburgh...black. Bluff... black. Bankhead... black. Thomasville... black. Even Clayco now... black. Me personally I dont care anything about living in an all black area unless its somewhere along the lines of Ellenwood, Redan, parts of Decatur (the CITY of Decatur), and parts of Lithonia and Stone Mountain. Maybe a couple of spots in the newly developed Camp Creek or Cascade. Other than that.. im sticking to the burbs.

Memphis, which over 600,000 within its city limits, is becoming gentrified too. I saw some of it although it has not come to my dad's own neighborhood. The gentrification may not be well known as it is in Atlanta or Houston, but I will not expect it to be a secret for long. People are getting good housing deals in and around the city.

Man Memphis is not as bad as these reports. I mean 4 streets does not make the city. The only place I feel unsafe in the city is the North Memphis near Downtown. I mean it's some nice new developments over there including harbor town but that's not safe at all. The rest of the city is relatively quiet.

I think the bottm line is all cities can be dangerous if you are into dangerous things. If you go looking for trouble there are folks who will give you the trouble. I here folks say so and so city ain't bad, well if you from any type of life that ain't hid under a tree you gotta enough since to know that never get caught slippin, because even folks in Beverly Hills get jacked.
