Alternatives to using Napster...

Hey, I remember a post from about a month ago when MP3 alternatives to Napster were discussed. I know of a few different online programs that I can try, but what are you all using to download MP3's? What would you say is the best thing out there right now?

Someone on here hipped me to AUDIOGALAXY.COM I've been able to find everything I was looking for. Just download the satalite and you're in business.

audiogalaxy good. Someone told me about something call Winmx. Don't know too much about it though. He said it was just like Napster but twice as good..

I have WinMx and it is great!! They give you a bunch of servers that you can log on to. If you enter a search for a something, it will check every server that you are logged on to for that song.

Also *keep this quiet* you can download programs like WinZip, Easy CD Creator, Paint Shop Pro, or whatever.

Ok, that makes four people in the past few days who have given it the thumbs up. Looks like its time to download. :D

By the way, I just purchased a external CD-RW drive. I know it's going to be slow since it's going through USB but have ya'll heard anything about which ones are better than others? I'm thinking about getting one for my dad as well.

I had an external CD drive......it was a HP and it worked great...from what I know that is the best one

Thanks, everyone!

Well, I have an external CD-RW made by Iomega, and it can burn a 74 minute CD-R in about 15-20 minutes....

Go internal, if at all possible.. if your computer is recent (meaning made in 99-2001) go for at least an 8x cdrw . If you have a brand spanking new computer shoot for 12x or 16x. You will spend about the same or less for it than an external plus you will cut your burning time down significantly.

Is that the 8220e one? I saw that one come up alot but on cnet they were talking about it failed the audio burn test or something, so I changed my mind. I've seen the iomega too. I'm looking for external maybe USB, but I was looking for more info on that Firewire too. It seems like that is a growing trend too. I'm mostly just looking to burn music, but it would be great if it can do extra. I hate that all the good external ones cost in the upwards of $300 The best one I've seen was that Sony Digital Relay because not only does it burn, it's also a portable CD player too. Problem being the cost once again. I think I'll be happy with my decision though.

Any other ideas for Father's day gifts? I know he wants a Big screen but I don't think I can afford that on my own.

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

Winmx

All I can say about Winmx is  and :D and

It really is better than napster because it allows you to search multiple servers. Not only music, but videos and pictures as well. Hope they don't shut this one down. ;)

Napster's Dead

Now that Napster is officially dead, www.kazaa.com is a great alternative to Napster. You can get audio, video and all sorts of other "stuff" with this service.
