All Pro Photo Needs Your Help!

Because of the high number of direct links to photos on the AllProPhoto.com website, the site has been shut down temporarily because of "excessive" activity.

Any direct link to a website causes an increase in that site's bandwith and All Pro has "exceeded" its limit.

Therefore we are requesting that you remove any direct links and don't post any future direct links to photos on that site.

This will be a temporary fix to get the website back online.

Here is my two cents on this issue. I think All Pro needs to get a Hosting Provider that can handle the bandwidth. This is like asking your friends to stop calling you for a little while, because you might go over your cellular minutes for the month.

This is a business issue don't blame potential customers for your shutdown.
 



I can respect that.....

There is a big difference between people going to the allpro site individually to look at the pictures, and people linking to pictures through sites like this one.

One picture could be downloaded hundreds of times by people who just wanted to read a topic, and have no intention of being customers.

There is a way to protect your pictures from being linked to on message boards like this one, but can still be viewed when you visit the website. Geocities does it. Allpro needs to talk to their webhost to hook that up.
 
Whatever the situation is, let's just respect OW's wishes. You might not agree with how he runs his board, you can still NOT use a direct link to his page on this board.

He could take the position that he doesn't want his pics posted elsewhere and do something about it. I think it's obvious that he doesn't mind that. Just don't post the direct link.

Of course you and other honest people will respect Onnidan's wishes and not post a direct link. Sadly, you have countless others that will continue to illegally copy pictures and post direct links to the site. A business must take proper safeguards on their own to protect its property. How many signs you see on front lawns posting "Please don't break in my house". A homeowner must take the proper steps to protect his home. The same thing applies to a business.

Here we go getting off the subject but we can tie them together.

To Mr. Rashad,

I currently have a revenue producing website to sell my photos. The web hosting service does a great job in protecting my photos. I can't tell people to stop linking to my site or stop copying my pictures. It's my responsibility to pick a service provider that can handle the bandwidth and can best protect my pictures.

I know that you are trying to stick up for All Pro/Onnidan. As a business person you definately understand that the Internet is a wild place. A Internet business must protect itself just like a brick and mortar business.

The bottom line: You must respect your business before others will.
 
The truth of the matter is one thing has nothing to do with the other.

I am sure that All-Pro selected a web host provider that best served their needs, not the needs of people to link pictures. What you fail to understand is that it is the web host company that puts a limited on the monthly bandwidth of All-Pro's account. It is not a issue where the company can't handle the bandwith.

If All-Pro is in a situation where it exceeds its bandwidth limit because other folk are linking pictures to others sites, why should All pro have to pick another provider? The higher your bandwidth limit, the more you have to pay. And maybe that isn't a feasable move for them.
 
I guess we can comply with thier wishes, but they'll probably have to get more bandwidth sooner or later.

One other thing. If your web hosting company is protecting your photos, they are not doing it for you, they are doing it for themselves.

I thought this thread was about people posting direct links to All Pro's site and asking those responsible to stop doing it.

I post a response to that and we get a brand subject.


Can we stick to the thread at hand? Is that too hard to ask??

You were the one who started by given your two cents on this issue. Maybe you should follow your own advice.
 



We've identified the source of the problem!

Jag,

AllProPhoto.com is a website devoted to displaying images of Black College Sports.

The site has photos of HBCU sports activities including bands, cheerleaders and dancers.

We are helping them maintain the site.

We've found the source of the problem. We began with the MEAC and SWAC fan boards because we knew that folk were linking to AllPro for various reasons.

However, that hadn't been a big problem in the past so we did some additional research.

After checking our web logs, it seems that someone whose profile says is a "student from Atlanta" set up 15 links to a message board to get comments on the different HBCU cheerleading squads.

The message board gets a lot of traffic and urges people to upload photos for comments. As has been pointed out earlier, whenever someone went to one of the 15 pages, that created additional bandwidth for us.

We're working on a fix but will be out of commission for a while.

Thanks to all who tried to help us out. We appreciate your efforts.

This is friggin redundant.

My first post was on the thread at hand. I talked about All Pro (not anybody else) to not blame people for the bandwidth problem. I suggested a new web hosting service might be the solution.

You, Mr. Rashad, would rather ask me if I had a website than just sticking to talking about All Pro and the existing problem.
 
Thanks Onnidan Webmaster for giving me the 411 on this site. I guess that site would get so many hits if a student or fan could get some good photos of his or her school to put on their page. I have been searching for some good pictures to put under my signature when I get to 150 post. I hope it comes back up soon so I can check it out.

The site is back up and running at its third location since May.

Hopefully we'll be stable for a while.

We apologize in advance for any missing images, there were over 500 on the original site and we're still checking links.
