Actually, I think that the announcer is just clinging to some poll that voted them #1 a couple years ago (just like some other band clings to a certain ranking). I personally, wouldn't use it after 1 season, but I dunno... Folks just do whatever..
I don't know what footage you are drooling to, but I don't recall the announcer even saying that recently. I do remember it being said back in 2001 though.

I can understand a school such as Southern raising some questions about it. But UAPB commenting? I think I need to grin about that.....

A few years ago the Golden Girls of Alcorn won an online poll conducted on the SWAC page.com Some how the Alcorn announcer just started to say "The Golden Girls were voted number 1 in the SWAC", instead of "voted the number 1 dancers by SWACPAGe.com". But he usually says "get ready for the number 1 SWAC band" when he announces.

Awwww, what's wrong, Legend? Are you pissed off too? Listen, it was a public poll. It doesn't really matter by what means they won be it dancing, selling sex, or whatever. Just know that they won, and yours didn't. So, whatever the Golden Girls were doing, it must have been something right if the general public had the audacity to vote them as most favored for that year. Lata..

You know what,...You are right on this one. It was a Public Poll . Looking at this from, another angle,...we sometimes don't know what is good for us unless we are taught. Some would rather drink Coca cola (battery acid) before they drink pure water. What I'm trying to say is I wish people didn't get mis-led in the long run in regards to what variables of techniques constitutes modern dance after all we are institutions of higher learning with the first objective of educating the people,....not taking short cuts in the fundamentals by shaking you booty to win the crowd. I'm concerned that the technical skill will slowly slip away.

Wait a minute, let's clear up something before you run yourself into a ditch. Firstly, if you are incinuating that the "World Renowned Golden Girls" of Alcorn State is all about booty shaking, and absolutely no technique in modern and contemporary dance.....then you need to do a double take. Granted, booty shakin' is something that they are known for (as well as all of the other dance troops). But you need to understand the reason for this is that they do it soooo well. The great thing about this squad is that they do maintain a balance between performing and entertaining simultaneously. You just cannot get out there on the field and give a dry performance of technical tap dancing in a pair of tights. Nor can you get out there and scrub the grown the entire time.
The bottomline to this is... Dancing is relative to what you like, since it comes in so many different forms. I personally like to be entertained the way the Alcorn girls entertain.

Granted,...but I don't want people thinking the group that flashes the most flesh is the group that's the best. My only fear is that if this starts being the case,...the rules will be changed and dance will end up like some of this crap that's on the radio today. That's all.

Looking at it from your point of view, I can understand what you are saying. But I do want to make the notion that all of the popular squads are really tit for tat when it comes to showing skin. I really do not think that people choose favorites or "the best" over something as frivolous as a revealing outfit. People look at your overall dance presentation. I'm done talking for tonight.. Ya'll kill me with this. You know good and well that you guys judge dancers on how they look, how fine (body) and what they are shaking. It has nothing to do with dancing ability. SU dancers are pretty, but their route is only an aerobic excercise. Alcorns dancers got their rep by bending over and showing their arses to the crowd and gaping their legs on many occasions. I saw a tape of alcorn they showed their arse to the crowd (actually bent over and touched the ground) about 5 seperate times and spread open their legs 6. (personally it didn't bother me) Please don't tell me ya'll call that dancing. How many of the SWAC dance groups actually perform in the spring and fall. Most only perform for football. Those are the ones with no dance talent.
Dude, every dance troupe wears skimpy outfits. How you gonna come on here and disrespect a group of women you don't know by talking about their "class" and "character"? That's sick man. You don't love black women or something? Every booty shaker you see isn't just a booty shaker. The fact that you being a dude and you're drawn to the booty shaking she's doing only proves that you can see her booty. When she gets off the field, go talk to her about something other than booty shaking and then come back on here and talk about her class and character.
Now let's see a thread another dedicated to those dawgs.......oh..I mean Orchesis of Grambling State..

I agree. Even though I'm a graduate of Jackson State, I've always been a fan of the "Golden Girls". I like the see the "Golden Girls "stir" that kat, they go all the way down to the ground and then they come up, that's pure talent and I love every minute of it. :eek2:
