Alcorn coach honest about state of Program

True and they were all going in different directions, that why all ended up going in different directions.

same thing this way, hopefully the folks here realize that if they support the football team and give them what they need it helps everybody especially the non-revenue generating sports.

ABOUT TIME SOMEONE SAW WHAT I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT!!!

Sorry Port Gibson, Fayette, and Natchez but...you just are not Football Powerhouses.

And Coach, if the "locals" have anything negative to say, just know that Southwest Mississippi (On the RIGHT SIDE OF I-55, we'll include Franklin County too), Hattiesburg Area, and Coast Areas have plenty of talent.

10 kids from the state of Mississippi is UNACCEPTABLE. I have previously talking with another Alcorn poster on TSPN about this.

The only local player who panned out was Charlie Spiller but he was from Wilkerson County. Nate Hughes was from Starkville.

Braveheart you have been yelling this for over a year and everytime your fellow Braves would try to shut you down.

I guess it was the "way" you said it...

But Good Luck Alcorn!! This is positive for the SWAC and HBCU's everywhere.

well i read this a few weeks ago & I'm glad he's outting the problems, but yet and still. Talk to me around year 3 of being there at Alcorn.

As kendrick said, you can't win if you keep changing coaches year after year...so well see if this guy stays a while.

If Alcorn can keep the AD and the other crazy's in the Administration away from the team, changing coaches every year, a Head Coach might be able to turn things around by year #3. These players that signed 4 years ago has had 3 different head coaches and 3 different offensive and defensive schemes to learn. :smh:

Yea I cant see him cutting alot of players this season since he is so late in the game he may just work with what he has!

He doesnt have a Bad Team, He is hurting in the QB area but overall this was a good team just 2 years ago before Spears destroyed it.. with the sand lot mentality

Exactly, he had a pretty good team! That ego is the reason he is not here today! Upward and onward! Let's go Braves!

Those crazy's are either long gone or are no longer a factor. Spears fiasco was something that needed to happen or should I say should have never happened.

Idiot! What is your issue with Port Gibson, Fayette and Natchez? Did they each have a woman that broke your heart? Of course you can't build a program from 2 schools that compete in 3A or 4A football. There just aren't enough players/people, but there is talent. 1 of Jackson's best receivers is from Natchez. When Harry Brown was coaching in Port Gibson he sent players all over including 1 to San Diego St. The problem is Alcorn hasn't recruited the talent available just like I've heard people complain that Jackson had stopped recruiting its local talent before Comegy. To field a championship caliber team we need to be able to recruit the entire state and out-of-state. Alabama was the best team in the country last year and their best offensive player was from FL & 1 of their best defensive players was from TN.

So what happens if Alcorn is actually good this year and gets 6 to 8 wins before you play Jackson State. I say, Alcorn admins will move the game to Jackson.

Dude shut up. We're not treating him any different than we did Jones nor Spears when they were hired. Spears only fell from grace with the fans when he started destroying the team. Now is it our fault that those previous coaches didn't think the facilities were in a bad shape? Closed mouths don't get fed and its time out for we can work with what we have. If they would be upfront from the beginning maybe things could and would have been better for them.

Actually Jones and Collins both tried to improve the facilities but they ran into obstacles b/c we suffered from a lack of leadership during that time. The lack of leadership is at the root of why neither 1 of them are on campus now. Hopson has just been more vocal than those 2 were. We finally have a permanent president that's dedicated to improving the overall state of the program - not just winning games.

I agree with you on that point. If Alcorn still had Air Canada, I would pick them to have a good season this year. Brandon is a good QB and might start for USA next year.

That's what Easy said.

Comegy has done absolutely nothing at JSU. Check his record against Alabama State,Tennessee State, Grambling and A&M. Let me know your finding.

 Don't know what school you are repping but do your own research, post it and make yourself look like a fool.

easy here,

TP....Some folks just stare and DON'T READ.......Easy trying to make a point..

You made no point..

That's because the difference now is we have a President that is backing the HC..we had poor leadership in the past... Has nothing to do the fact that the HC is white.

Dang, y'all still on this?
It's camp time. Shouldn't y'all be talking about new additions to the roster and discussing key players or something?

Well according to the Vicksburg Post, Coach Hopson has added 9 transfers or freshman since the summer. One is a long snapper from Junior College Darryl Harvey, one from American Samoa who plays tackle, a freshman kicker from Georgia named Tyler Smith and a transfer sophomore running back from Memphis University by the name of Joe Price. Price is from Madison Central HighSchool in Ms. He was rated a 3 star prospect by rivals.com and a 2 star by scout.com out of highschool. Price is 5'9 180 pounds and runs the forty in the 4.28 to 4.3 range.
