*WHEN IS THE LAST TIME THAT YOU HAVE BEEN TO ALCORN, GRAMBLING, ITTA BENA. THESE ARE VERY SMALL TOWNS. EVEN THOUGH GRAMBLING AND ALCORN HAVE NICE SIZED STADIUMS FOR THE AREA THAT THEY ARE IN, YOU WILL NOT FIND RESTURANTS, HOTELS, CLUBS, MALLS IN THESES AREAS. EVERY SCHOOL IS NOT LOCATED IN A STATE CAPITOL OR METROPLOTIAN AREA....YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT.
*DIV 1A HAS BOWL GAMES/SIMILAR TO CLASSICS. MOST ONLY HAVE 1 A YEAR. THE ICON WAS IN 6 CLASSICS IN 1 YEAR
==============================

Precisely the reason I'm advocating for this is because HBCUs don't have this and need it! :smh: we need at least 30-50K stadiums of our own (at the largest HBCUs of coarse)!

I'm very familiar with the grambling/itta bina/alcorn town situations; I WENT TO FREAKING TUSKEGEE!!!! I blame the state of those cities on the stupid-arse, lazy, rest on their lorals, LEACH OFF THE COLLEGE city leadership in these town! That goes for Tuskegee! but still,,, I say they need to get their act together and we should be building towards home games,,,, BUT AS USUAL, YOU DON'T ADDRESS MY OTHER POINT, you only zero in on the small college towns. I also said, AT LEAST HAVE THE FREAKING "CLASSICS" IF YOU MUST HAVE THEM, IN LARGE METROS CLOSER TO THE REGIONS WHERE THE HBCUS ARE! You telling me we can't find a stadium in Nashville/Memphis/Atlanta/Birmingham/Orlando/Tampa/Jacksonville/Mobile/N.O./Jackson that could accomodate an ASU-FAMU classic?

Bartram many of those cities you have named are already saturated with classics. I think Detroit is going to be a good fit for FAMU and Bama State to play.

*It is going to be on Labor Day weekend so it will give the locals something to look forward to at the end of the summer.

*It will serve as a great recruiting tool for students from Michigan.

*If the promotors really get the word out and make this game, THE GAME for blacks in that area, it could be a big event like the Circle City Classic, thus giving more HBCU's the chance to play in the Motor City, giving more exposure to all schools.

One day the HBCU towns will learn.

It won't be any time soon, but one day they will say, "gee,,, you know what,,, we need to bring all dat money we sending to ______ and the rest of them classics home". One day it will finally dawn on the HBCUs and the cities they are in, but not until the HBCUs go to Div I-AA and build bigger and better facilities to accomodate sold out crowds. Bring the "classics" home,, or at least closer to the realm of influence,,,, bring em home I say,,,,,, if you want to see an HBCU game, come yo arse to the South and spend some of dem tourist dollars to help the towns or at least the regions of the HBCUs.

Florida A&M-Alabama State to play at Ford Field

January 10, 2003

DETROIT (AP) -- Florida A&M and Alabama State will meet in the inaugural Detroit Football Classic on Aug. 30.

The Division I-AA schools will play at Ford Field, the home of the Detroit Lions and Motor City Bowl.

Lions defensive end Robert Porcher teamed with Detroit businessmen Frank Taylor and John Graves to establish the game.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick played at Florida A&M.

``It will be a great way to expose our kids to the black college experience,'' he said.

,,, no it won't, at least not as good as bringing them to the south/to the campus for the real experience,,,, give me a break.

how can you people,, esp. those that went to these schools, buy this??!! You gotta be kidding me!

the best way to do what the mayor says would be to bring them down to the campuses of either State or FAMU for the game, it's very simple. This guy knows that. He's just promoting his city as the venue for the game as any city official worth his salt would do. what do expect the guy to get up and say,,, "duuuh-uuuuuh, nope, this game should be played home & home/or in the region close to the shools"????? heel no!

Me, on the other hand, I have no dog in this hunt. I'm not from ASU (although the rest of my family graduated from or went there) and i'm not from FAMU. I am from the south/Alabama, so that is a small factor. I'm just saying I think these games should be and could be more successful closer to the realm of influence of the schools.

The bidding on the games by various entities is a good point. I have no rebuttle to that except to say,, I'LL BE GLAD DA FUGG WHEN SOME GROUPS FROM THE SOUTHEAST CAN OUTBID THEM!!!! :splat:

HORNETS BEWARE of strangers bearing last minute gifts!!

MIGHTY HORNET,

All I will say is 'Classic or Not' GET YOUR PAPER UP FRONT (EXPENSES & GUARANTEES)!

You know there are at least two (2) HBCU's that have little or no business acumen when it comes to Business Contracts, LAW, and gentleman's aggreements. A-STATE will be playing one of them on Aug 30, 2003 in Detroit.

Bama State and GSU played in the Pontaic Silverdome in 1991 which was won by Bama State 60-14. That game was played before 35,000 fans. That has been the largest crowd for HBCU's to-date since 1991. Most of those fans were Detroit and Bama State's. Plus, the ASU-FAMU game isn't a one year deal. It was brought to me by unnamed sources that the ASU-FAMU game is a six year deal with the next few games being played in Mobile. Maybe this will answer many of your questions.

THANKYOU!!!!

I DON'T THINK THAT TOO MANY SCHOOL WILL BE ESTABLISHING LONG TERM DEALS WITH THE SCHEDULE GOING BACK TO 11 GAMES IN 2004. AND THE SWAC PLAYING A 9 GAME SCHEDULE. PLUS NO PROMOTER IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD HAVE 2 SCHOOLS ON CONTRACT NOT KNOWING WHAT WORTH THEY WOULD BE THAT FAR DOWN THE ROAD. I CAN SEE THEM TRYING TO CONTRACT FAMU, BUT BOTH....THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO LOGICAL. NOT A KNOCK AGAINST BAMA, JUST A REALITY.

Mach if most of the fans there were neutral and ASU fans.....who were they there to see.....just curious....
