Your band released an album in 1978 of standards and halftime hits of that day like "Soft And Wet", "Once,Twice, Three Times A Lady', "Shame" , "Get Off", "Toccatta and Fugue" ...
What I wanted to know is do yall still have that in stock? Better yet, do you have it on CD because I just accidentally broke mines. :slap: I am not a happy camper right now!!! :slap: :angry: :angry: :angry:

From the way my request is gettin' unanswered,....it would appear that yall (ASU) didn't know yall did an album. Hummm,.... What does it say to you when someone from another band knows more about your band's history than yourselves? :shame: Please tell me my conclusion is wrong. :smh: You can't know where you're going unless you know where you've been. Did you also know your band did a comercial for Burger King????? :smh:

I'VE HEARD ALL THE ALBUMS. I USE TO WORK IN THE MUSIC LIBRARY SO I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT AND THEY ARE LOCKED UP. AND I ALSO KNOW THAT MR. FREE (PERCUSSION TEACHER) HAS ALL OF THEM TOO. SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH HIM
 
I'm not too sure. It was like in the late 70's to very early 80's. Some of the members (M. Raybon, K. Street) at that time use to talk about it. Probably around the time Grambling did the Coke comercial. It didn't run long.

How many did yall do? I only know of one. Is this one on CD? How can I get in contact with Mr. Free?

It was unanswered cause not many of us (MMH) come on SWACPage. :rolleyes: I usually don't my face round deez parts either.

Anywhoo....yes, there is a 1978 album and a 1987 album (my personal favorite).

And yes........I'm familiar with the BK commercial too; and the Halftime performance in 1976 at the Bengals game, and many other MMH past accomplishements. Care to hear them? :D

The Marching Hornets, composed of talented musicians, has generated a genuine pride in the entire student body at Alabama State University as a result of their stellar performances in the State of Alabama and the South. They have also gained national recognition as a result of their presentation of a sparkling halftime show on NBC's national televised professional football games between the NY Jets vs. KC Chiefs, December 10, 1967; CBS's nationally televised professional football game between the New Orleans Saints vs. the Green Bay Packers in 1969 and was twice televised on the Blue-Gray Football Classic, Montgomery, AL, December 1976 and 1977; halftime for the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints October 1976 and 1977; and the pre-game and halftime for the Cincinnati Bengal vs. Houston Oilers at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, 1976.

In 1980, The Marching Hornets put together a halftime show saluting the late, great Joe Louis, one of the world's greatest boxers. This show toured many cities and states and each performance received raved reviews. In 1985, the Marching Hornets were invited to perform at the second annual Freedom Bowl classic in Fulton Stadium, Atlanta, GA, representing the SWAC Conference. They also performed for the Atlanta Falcon vs. Chicago Bears in 1986, were they presented a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and were the Exhibition Band for the South Central Marching Band Classic in Homewood, AL., November 1, 1986 The Marching Hornets also performed at other classics and games such as the Bronze Classic in Atlanta 1991, the Motor City Classic in Pontiac Michigan 1991, Alma Heritage Bowl in Miami 1991, the Circle City Classic of Indianapolis 1992 and was the featured band for the Battle of the Bands, Ladd Stadium Mobile, AL, October 1, 2000.

I never dreamed that State's band has such a nice history Nice Job Vette! I need some one like you to arouse my intelect as well as my loins!!!!!!!!!!!!! :winkgrin: Really I wouldn't mind knowing some of every bands history especially MVSU, Yall may talk about them badly but back in the day they were a giant!!!!

Actually....the Burger King commercial was zipped at the last minute. It was shot in "1982" during a portion of our halftime show. Although the band was paid a handsome fee, the "powers that be" elected not to run it. The finished product was fantastic. By now the footage is either deystroyed or tucked away in yesteryear's dusty acrhives someplace.

Back then Burger King was the fast food "heavyweight" and there is no doubt the commercial would have made us a household name. Unlike other SWAC bands that received national attention with WINNING football programs (ie Gsu, Su,and Jsu) we had just entered the SWAC conference and our football program lacked a winning tradition. The national exposure could have been a useful recruiting tool. On the bright side......a brother ate well. We ate unlimited Whoppers all season long. That's Hollywood. :emlaugh:
