HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Alabama A&M men's basketball coach Willie Hayes added another talented player to the Bulldogs' recruiting class Monday when he signed Georgia prep star Nick West.

West, a 6-foot-9, 200-pounder out of LaGrange (Ga.) Academy, comes to A&M after earning All-State honors each of the last two years.

"He's thin like (former A&M standout) Mickell (Gladness), but he's very skilled," Hayes said. "Our fans are going to fall in love with him. When they see him, they're going to think he needs to be under the basket, but he's going to shock them when he's outside playing on the perimeter. He can really shoot the basketball."

West averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks last season in helping LaGrange Academy reach the Georgia private school state championship game. Hayes said West also had other scholarship offers from USC-Upstate and Tennessee State.

West is the third signee for the Bulldogs for the 2012-2013 season.

A&M signed Hazel Green standout Willie Spencer and Miller Grove (Ga.) High School star Justin Colvin earlier.

Spencer, 6-5 and 270, averaged nine points and 11 rebounds while leading the Trojans to the Class 6A state championship game, while Colvin, 6-3 and 180, averaged 12 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 rebounds in leading his team to back-to-back state championships.

West, Spencer and Colvin are among 12 players that are here this summer going to school and working out.

The players, led by strength coach Andrew Lee, lift weights four day a week and run three days a week, in addition to playing a number of times per week.
