Accepting Job Offers

Have any of ya'll ever been in a position where you got two jobs offers, but you accepted the offer from your second choice before hearing from your first choice--- which came days or one week later?

What did (or would) you do? Go back and renege on the second choice and accept the first choice's job offer?
Or do you tell your first choice that you've already accepted another offer and then thank them for the consideration?
 



Do what you have to for you. Companies love no one but the CEO and board members. They want think twice or feel sorry if they have to lay you off or fire you.
 
Think about them both. It's about you and weighing your options. There is no loyalty in business no matter how much you are liked or paid. There are 100 more people who can and will take your place at a drop of a dime.
 
I only had that happen once. I interviewed for an Office Manager position for Pepsi. They said they would let me know in a week. Well 2 weeks went by and I interviewed and got a job with Alltel. A week into my training they called and offered me the job with Pepsi. I was young and declined. I didn't feel right about leaving the job when I had just started. I did weigh the pros and cons of both jobs before making my decision.

I ask for an extension on time to reply because I needed to gather information about an additional offer. They've given me a week and sometimes a little more to make up my mind.

I have gotten an offer and the day I started a lady looked me up on global e-mail and asked me to walk to her building for an interview. I did. I got that job but did not take it. She would not give me more than I got at the first job. When asked why would I leave them on day one, I told her straight up, "Money". SO she knew before she went to HR to ask them to extend me an offer.
 
Before accepting the offer from your second choice, call your first choice and let the other place know that you are considering another opportunity. Thay way they know that they need to step up their game and make a decision.

That exact same scenario happened to a freind of mine back in May. She interviewed with 2 companies in ATL. One offered her a job on Friday morning. She called the place she really wanted to be right after that. The second place, in turn, called her back and made a counter-offer with a better salary. She took the job that counter-offered which is where she really wanted to be.
 
What I did when that happend, I got a sheet of paper and wrote down all the positives side by Side.



Pay
Office
Parking
Distance
Leave
401 (K)
Health Care

Then I wrote side by side things I wanted for my private life:
Flex Time
Lunch time
Vacation
Pressures Concerning the Job

Which ever comes out with more...I chose with the exception of distance.
 
Look at what's most important(benefits, money, vacation) don't worry about what the other company thinks. You have to look out for yourself. These companies don't care about anyone, so do what's best for you.
