I don't feel any safer, any more secure.....
I have become even more skeptical of our gov't. Over the past two years, we have launched both military and propaganda attacks against Afghanistan and the Middle East. Then we try to under-play the Israeli-Palestinian struggle, because it's getting more TV time than Operation Enduring Freedom. Then we beg India and Pakistan to NOT test their nukes, because we were busy hunting the Taliban. Then, since we didn't ever get Osama Bin Laden, we presumed (for a few weeks) that he was dead, and then shifted our attention from Al Quieda to Saddam Hussein and Iraq. And now our President is trying to convince us and the world that we need to go to war against Saddam again, now claiming that he has weapons of mass destrustion and ties to Al Quieda.
And here we are, two years later, with only one would-be terrorist having gone to trial. No Taliban chiefs, and no Osama.....
Believe dat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bawling:

Simply put,
Our government has to really re-assess the role of international peacekeeper a bit...It's not really as easy as "leaving folks alone" because the UN essentially has no bite if we don't play the role of peacekeeper...
Has the U.S. government screwed up policy concerning this over the years??? Hell yeah, on a number of occasions...However, If we don't play that role, what's to stop the next regime of fanatics from annexing a country or pulling some ethnic cleansing job on a population that may not be able to defend itself???
Places like bosnia, the middle east, indonesia, and Somolia are perfect examples of that...On top of that, there are still places where U.S. Iterests have a more direct affect on foreign policy (i.e. The Oil-Rich middle east, etc...)
As far as the israelis go, they don't have a choice...If they show any sign of weakness, Some of the 8 to 10 Arabic nations won't hesitate to exploit it....
