A SCG suggestion

Keep in mind this is a suggestion. I've read a lot on this board about what can be done to make this game better. Most topics are about locations that would be better than the current. I don't care where it is played, we just need to get more people there. Anyway, here is my suggestion. What if SCG tickets are included in ALL season books sold in the conference. I think that would get the ball rolling for a good attendance. Many people would go just because they have already purchased tickets. As for those who don't, just think of it as a donation to make this game bigger and better. If the SWAC powers are so stuck on making this game work, we (fans) need to do our part to help. Empty seats on t.v. looks real bad.

Danm boy u a genius, must be a SU product.:lmao:

Seriously that's a good idea but I don't know if the swac/Ncaa allows them to do that.

You need to email this to the commish. This is a great idea!!

Readslike a great idea, but the logistics with splitting and calulating the revenue from ticket packages sold maybe a nightmare for our adminstrators and conference officials.

Would you elaborate a little further?

I agree with Jafus

the logistics would be a nightmare

let's see, the SCG tickets sold to ASU folks in the preseason would be in what section of Legion Field?

is the block attached to the UAPB season tickets gonna be good seats that go unused in the SCG.

Which school gets the 50 yard line?

SU sells 10K season tickets, but don't make the SCG. Is that 10K empty seats in one section that could have been sold

see where this is going

For example. How do you actually work out the numbers? Many SWAC schools have different prices for the season ticket packages. Do you add just a flat rate for each school season ticket package i.e. $15 for a (or the $10 or $20) certain ticket section? I am not sure our administrators are that interested in dealing with such logistics.

Again, I think it is a good idea. In fact, I was always in favor of requiring each school to sale a minimum ammount of tickets for the game (nothing rediculusly high).

Essentially, in my opinion we are looking to find away to get more of our fans interested in attending the game that do not particularly have a rooting interest in the game because their school's athletic football program is not involved i.e. entertainment.

But, from what I have witness since the inaugural SWAC Championship Game many of the general events (SWAC Step-Show, SWAC Battle of the Bands, SWAC Band Drumline Feature, SWAC Pre Game Tailgate, & SWAC Post Game Concert) that have worked for our other "Classics" have not been successful for the SWAC Championship Game weekend. I have a suggestion that has been submitted by THG Agency to the SWAC Commissioner that may cure that concern.

It is has been intriguing to watch this event go through it various phases since the inaugural event.

OK I see where your coming from Jafus, but I would hope that all our schools presidents would get together and voice the importance of this game being a success and convey that to each schools.

From there come up with a flat price for the tickets (SCG) and that way it wouldn't effect each schools season book drastically. I would be more than willing to do that, but than again that's me, I'll be willing to do anything in reason to help the conf. move forward.

I most certainly and wholeheartedly agree!! Unfortunately, I am almost sure that this is not the case from even the majority of our schools' presidents.

At least not in this manner. I believe for many of them, they actually believe they support the event by just voting to have the event.

In my opinion, many of our presidents do have great deal more important issues on their plate. But disturbing in my opinion, for whatever reason many do not feel comfortable in allowing their athletic directors to play a larger role in developing mechanism that you allude too.

That would help the conference move forward with out them feeling the need to play such a large role in evaluating such plans, as opposed to having the final say by just actually voting or note to support what the athletic directors and commissioner have proposed, strategically planned and developed.

Hopefully, we will eventually get to that level of a working process.

Good Idea.

I purposed something similar to this for the Heritage Bowl a while back, but it entailed each of the non-participating schools each asking their alums to buy out a block of 2000 to 3000 tickets (say, 30,000 seats divided by the number of schools in the SWAC and MEAC). Each school would keep the proceeds from their ticket sells as their "conference cut" from the Heritage Bowl. The participating schools and promoters would have been responsible for selling out the other 30,000 to 35,000 seats in the, then, Georgia Dome.

A similar approach could be done with the schools using the season ticket concept and with alums for those tickets not sold through season ticket holders (if buying SCG tickets is an option). Let the proceeds from the SCG ticket in each package stay in the schools coffers as their "conference cut" (the concept similar to schools who go to bowl games: each school in the conference gets a cut of the bowl payout that the particpating school got). Each school gets the same allotment at the beginning of the year and if they sell them out, good. If not send them schools participating in the SCG in time for them to sell to their backers. I don't know how large Legion field is but if it seats, say, 70,000 then take 30,000 to 40,000 of those seats at the beginning of the year and divide them up over the 10 SWAC schools to include with their season packages or for sell to their alums as gametickets or donations. The other tickets would be held for the school's participating in the game each year.

I'm basing this on one key assumption; that being that the seating for the SCG is first come first serve. I was at the first SCG and I seem to recollect that that was the case. If its not, then correct me. But if the seats are first come first serve, then pre-selling them as a part of each school's season ticket package won't have an impact. If seating is reserved at the SCG, then as has been stated earlier, the logistics of this plan would need working.

But the idea is a good one, and I believe that its an especially good one if schools know that ticket proceeds will stay at their schools. For the SWAC, the game could be a sell-out, or very near one, paid attendance-wise even if the game crowd wasn't that big. At least all of the schools could potentially reap some finanical benefit from it.

Regards.

Would season book holders have a choice to buy this ticket?

If not, how do you account for the huge disparity in season book sales at each school. I mean, should the SWAC be able to collect money from SU's 10K holders when PVU or MVSU only has 1K holders to collect from?

Jag Voice:

That's why I would modify the proposal to let each school keep the proceeds from their SCG tickets sold as a part of their season books. This would allow each school to benefit from its own sells. The SWAC office would not get involved in this, if at all, until the remaining tickets went on sale for the schools participating in game itself (including those 30,000 in my original post). If we are talking about 3,000 SCG tickets per school, I figure that between alums, alumni chapters, and season ticket holder, they could be bought up. After the season begins, the school would have until November 1st to get their alumi to buy them (again with proceeds still going to the selling school). After that, they would be returned to the SWAC for sale for the participating schools.

I think season ticket holders should have the option to buy or not. That's my opinion.

Regards.

Great Idea JagFan and JagVoice .... This way, the schools already have what they can possibly get from the game and the SWAC has a better chance of getting the type of attendance I'm sure they want.

Push this with my and Lil J's rotating SCG idea and we might have something!
