A request to Ocean of Soul

I know the football team sucked this year and the fans did not have much to cheer about; however, I want you guys to get more involved in the games.

If you notice, the Jukebox plays defense Jags, Defense...on almost all 3rd down plays or at crucial times. This gets their crowd vocal and this has a positive impact for them. You can also expect them to play their song when the quarterback is sacked.

I have witnessed the Ocean playing defense, defense at the wrong time- the play is over or a timeout was called. I have also seen where it's 3rd down and the outcome of the game is in doubt and the band is playing songs as if there is not a game being played.

Also, I thought GSU engaged the crowd during their half-time show with "old school" music. That "Down Home Blues" is hot.

Our announcer stated at the SU game that we have the baddest band around, if that is true, can you please play, "WE ARE THE BEST BAND IN THE LAND."

Don't get too caught up with doing skits as part of your half-time show. I thought the drill last week was really good.

You know why TSU has no Fanbase, Part has to do with the Home Stadium.


of course you know that At Durley field the band and fans cant interact due to seating locations. So when the Band is doing The Team Support Cadences, "Fight / Spirit Songs" or Other Sing Along / Chants .. there is no crowd participation.

There also isnt Enough room for Thousands of Spectators at Durley. so this means that when there is a home game at Reliant or any stadium where they can interact with the crowd. There wont be many of Our own fans there Especially during a Losing season.


Also, Yeah On the field, although the skits aren't Repetitive. Doing skits becomes Old and something you'd expect them to do at games. so it makes it boring.

As for Song Selections, I feel that TSU doesnt always play the Right Tunes for the moment. It's like playing a tune that nobody recognizes when the teams just about ready to score. ..

You know what i mean?
 



I actually disagree with Hurd...

I did notice that the Ocean did 'All The Way' When Southern had the ball but hey... I was there for the band anyway.
 
I'll have to disagree also. This is not the time to slam on the "Ocean" Playing defense or any other tune would not have helped. A coach who can put up wins and put people in the stands would be more effective.

Also, these kind of comments need to stay in the Third Coast Tigers Forum.
Rule #1...Don't knock or voice personal opinions regarding your own team/band in the public.;)
 
And yet I would put the third disagree on this. You really shouldn't come down on the band for the "main reason" that people are supposed to come. It is a football game. To put it in a sense, the band could just go and not do a damn thing. Of course that would be unethical since we made the trip there and spent all the time practicing. We support no matter what, win or lose. Do remember tho, we could just sit there and concentrate on what we have to do and not give a damn about the football game. Yet, we do support though even though we may not do it every play of the game. So you may want to throw this topic out. Not the place to discuss this.:shame:

P.S.: We are the OCEAN OF SOUL! We don't need a song saying that we are the baddest band in the land. We prove it by our own methods.

I would think that the band, our band, the Ocean, would welcome comments from fans, alums, etc. I always thought that the band performed for the people. If that is the case, how would you know what "the people" want if the platform wasn't available?

I love the Ocean and I love the university, therefore, I critique all facets of my school for areas of opporunity to improve and enhance.

I do realize the seating configuartion at Durley is disconnected from the fans; however, the sounds of the Ocean is not. When the schools's fight song is played, it is a recognizable tune and the fans know what to do. likewise, if "defense" is played fans would know what to do.

I think it is important to create the whole entire game experience which includes fan participation, our cheerleaders, players, and yes, even the Ocean in a connected oneness of Tiger Spirit.

Thing is, just call Prof Lee. Our band has NEVER had a majority of members on ANY band related site. So, telling the members on here doesn't make sense. Please also keep in mind that our now deposed SOB coach BLAMED the Ocean for a loss. The Ocean has been hittin' on double barrels for awhile now and RARE is the mention of this by school marketing. I LOVE TSU but don't try and set the Ocean out like this. The band is SHINING!

WOW! What loss did he blame the Ocean for? It is amazaing how he would do something like that istead of facing reality. He was the problem not the band.
