Deion Sanders's Contract: Jackson State to Pay 'Coach Prime' $300,000 Salary With Season-Ticket Sales Incentives

Deion Sanders’s contract with Jackson State is a four-year, $1.2 million deal that includes an automatic extension for an eight-win season.

Sanders’ salary is on par with other FCS head coaches, but it would put him last among FBS public school coaches. However, the contract is loaded with incentives. He receives $25,000 for each win over an FBS team, gets $10,000 for a SWAC division title and $30,000 for a conference championship. If his team reaches the Celebration Bowl—a season-ending game pitting the SWAC and MEAC champion—he’d receive $50,000 for a bowl win.

Sanders can also get bonuses for ticket sales. If a game draws more than 30,000 fans, he gets 10% of all sales after the 30,000. He receives 10% of all season ticket revenue after the first 10,000 are purchased. If JSU changes conferences, he gets $100,000.

Prime also got paid from the Walmart contract and the proctor and gambel project deal too.

I've seen contracts in the SWAC with and without incentives, but I've never seen nor heard of one in the SWAC that incentivized a coach fundraising.

I doubt SWAC A. D.'s have that on their radar. If asked, most would say fundraising is their job or give an excuse about why it isn't being done.

In some cases, administrative policies at our schools are a hindrance. Other departments can't solicit until they first get approval from the development office. If the development office has a donor or business already on board or even if they have one targeted other departments might be prohibited from soliciting them.
 
Incentives:

Vick is set to earn an additional bonus of $10,000 for winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season championship, $15,000 for any FCS Playoff win, AFCA Coach of the Year ($2,500), MEAC Coach of the Year ($2,500), a $5,000 bonus for NCAA Coach of the Year honors, and $5,000 bonus for an student-athlete APR above the minimum of 985.

Also, the former NFL star will will get bonused $25K per Celebration Bowlvictory and $100K for winning the FCS national championship.

If he finishes 3rd after his third season in a 6 team league he automatically gets a year

SU did it years ago with Coach Banks when he was being courted by Texas A&M after they almost upset Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament.


Here is Graves contract where he gets a bonus for season ticket sales above 750,000 and the bonus goes up as the revenue goes up.
