Bama fans I real thankful for this kid from Flint, MI. How in the hell did he end up at Bama and not UM or OSU is baffling. But congrats to Ingram for winning the Heisman Trophy. If Bama had to continue to wait for a southern kid to win this then they would have never saw one.

ESPN said:
NEW YORK -- Mark Ingram completed the trophy case at Alabama, delivering the first Heisman to a school that boasts one of the richest histories in college football.

The tough-running sophomore tailback turned tearful after winning the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in the closest vote in the award's 75-year history. Next, he'll try to lead the most storied program in the South to a national championship.

Ingram finished 28 points ahead of Stanford running back Toby Gerhart.

It's not really that baffling, his dad played at Michigan State when Saban was a young assistant, and they remained friends.

GR is rolling over in his....wait...sorry about that.

I think that his mother dated his father when the dad played at Michigan State. Nick Saban was an assistant at the time.

At the beginning of the season I thought that Colt McCoy would win it. I thought he would win it after I heard all of the talk about the award this week. However, if I had a vote, I would have voted for Suh of Nebraska. Nevertheless, I am happy for Ingram. I have no problem with him winning the award.

You think? Last time I checked two southern teams are playing for the national championship.

At Alabama...football is a team sport with great individual talent. See Donta Hightower and Rolando McClain. That's the philosophy that produced 4 all americans on one team.

Chris Fowler said Mark Ingram is the ONLY player on Bama's roster from a northern state.

That's where I've been the last 26 years (with the exception of four years at JSU of course). Why you ask?

Possibly visiting an area right outside of Chi-Town for a Family Reunion this summer.......I forgot the name of the area.....I will find out and let you know later...

So, does the fact that a kid from up North who won the Heisman for Bama (and himself) make Northerners who are proud of the fact that he's from the North....BAMA Fans?

Oh, alright. Family reunions in Chicago can be cool in the Summer. We had ours here two years ago and folks had a ball.

A coach should not be concerned with what region a kid was born or raised. A Mark Ingram type player can play for any college in the nation. I am proud of the kid because of his hard work, determination and staying focused while his dad is facing a possible prison sentence. The kid can easily have given up....

PS: Is it o'k to have an undergraduated degree from a HBCU and have a post graduate degree from a Ohio State, GT or Alabama?

He was committed to Michigan under Loyd Carr. When Rodriguez came in, he opened up his recruitment.

I personally don't care where the boy is from, north, south, east, or west, or who he plays for. Good is good, and dude is impressive. He deserved it and i'm so happy for him, his speech was so emotional i teared up with him. Very big CONGRATS TO HIM!

....and this coming from an Alabama native who is NOT a Crimson Tide fan.

I totally agree.

Congrats to him and he is a deserving winner. What probably what took him over the top the SEC Championship game.

from what I understand, it was his mother that was the cause for him going to Bama. Apparantly, she called Saban and told him that because of how he stayed on Mark Sr when they were in school, then thats who she wants her son to play for.

Congrats to Ingram, and ROLL TIDE ROLL ! ! !

And "L" yes, I'm a Bama Fan, for those misguided among you who seem to think there's something wrong with a black person, or an HBCU graduate rooting for a PWC. :smh:

I stated on this site once before that some of the coolest, most Afrocentric black people I have ever met, attended the University of Alabama. By the same token, some of the fakest wannabes I've ever met have attended HBCUs.

I'm a proud graduate of Alabama State University, and I'm a proud supporter of all HBCUs. But I'm also a BIG TIME BAMA FAN. And if someone doesn't like it, that's their problem.
