5 SWAC teams with the most to prove in 2016

Judging by the way the article is written Alcorn only has to prove they can still win without their head coach. The key word is Most. We got an entire new staff (outside of McCall) and a winning tradition we need to get back to amongst other intangibles. Did we make the right hires? After two losing seasons can we turn things back around in year 1. Our expectations are higher ( not to say others aren't) so in that regard Hughes has the most to prove. 4 coaches in 4 years speaks for itself.

I disagree with the article.

1. Grambling State
(The G-Men have came up short back to back seasons for a SWAC title. When will the HBCU world see the biggest name in black college football back at the top of the throne?)

2. Mississippi Valley
(Comegy is a winner who is use to winning. He has brought 3 of the best recruiting classes Valley hs seen in the new era and now it's time to seethe fruits of his labor. Does Come by still has fuel in his plane?)

3. Jackson State
(When will we see JSU football? The type of hard hitting football that separates JSU from "decent" programs in the SWAC. Even on a bad days, JSU at least was known for beating teams they are predicted to beat. The talent is there, but will JSU finally have the coaching needed to play 4 quarters of football?)

4. Alabama A&M
(The Bulldogs were the team that you cohkd never attempt to overlook. When lose or draw, they use to fight for the title every year. It's time to see that again. Will A&M return to the top of the East or at least come close?)

5. Southern
(Odums won the SWAC crown, and then rode off into the sunset. Everyone wants to see if he has fixed the problem in his coaching staff. SU has too many weapons on offense not to compete for the title. Spring camp or no spring camp, the Jags should be explosive this season.)/

Our beat writer said the same thing I been saying about SU. They keep getting worse as Stump players left. Good thing it looks like #3 in the WEST is a lock for them since it's two really bad teams behind them.

As for Comegy ... he is at Valley and Comegy can't coach. The talent he is getting at Valley is decent for Valley but not for a school used to winning. Comegy is not an X and O coach and he has questionable assistants so I don't see that team beating to many schools. They will probably beat AAMU again and maybe have a shot at beating UAPB and TxSo. After that, they MIGHT have a very, very, very, slim chance of beating SU.

I disagree about Grambling should be at number on this poll because for one, Doug had tore up the program, i mean tore it up. Fobbs comes and turn it around quick, lost the Bayou Classic his first year, won the SWAC West the second year and Bayou Classic but lost the SCG, we are actually ahead of schedule from what Doug put us through and Fobb is still loading up on talent, then keep in mind that Grambling swept the SWAC until the SCG rematch with Alcorn. This week dude brought in another transfer Wide Receiver in. I still say Alcorn has the most to prove, for one they weren't even in the equation before they hired Hobson, he turned it around and now he is gone, took most of the staff with him, key players graduated, new coaching staff that hasn't proved themselves yet, they won back to back championships so the pressure is all on them. The are currently the SWAC Champs. They have to do everything in their power to try to three-peat and maintain.

Alcorn will be 3rd in the EAST. But right now, you have to give them benefit of the doubt. The certainly won't beat JSU.

Not to hate on Alcorn but i actually expect a fall off, new staff, key seniors graduating and it's not like they just had a stellar class. Hobson assembled a nice coaching staff and he took the with him. They should be still competitive but not like under Hobson but who knows this is the SWAC, anything can happen.

man.. Hopson was the X-factor! Now they have McNair and Fred Kaiss.... lol
They also have a President who may or may not have his heart in it. He is just there for stability.

Southern went 9-4 in 2013 and 2014. Actually, Southern won nine games in the 2014 regular season while winning eight heading into the 2013 SCG.

After 2013, lost our all-time leader in passing yards and TD passes, along with an All-America at WR and some veteran defensive players.

In 2014: got back to SCG with a true freshman QB, Tillery and Quinn in their second year on the field, and some remaining veterans on defense.

Too many mental miscues (ball security) and a very porous defense resulted in a 6-5 season in 2015.

Right.. downward spiral. SWAC Champs to barely making it to Houston.. to not even getting to Houston.

Southern's 2013 SWAC losses were to Jackson State in September and Alcorn in late October (overtime).
Southern's only SWAC loss in 2014 was to Alcorn in September and SU won eight straight heading into the SCG.

So.. you still lost in Houston and got there only because Grambling got a dumb coach.

Really? I think since Bell left, JSU is 6-5 vs SU! So lets not act like you been dominating.

Not acting like Southern has dominated Jackson. But c'mon TP, admit it ... y'all are collectively on that dope in coaching decisions TWICE.

Y'all were on that pipe, fired Robert Hughes hired Bell ...
lost to us in 2003, 2004, 2005
———————————————————————————————————————————————
Then y'all had a moment of clarity, got rid of Bell and hired Rick Comegy (who went 6-3 vs. SU)
Comegy won in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 (reg season)
Comegy lost in 2008, 2012, 2013 SCG
———————————————————————————————————————————————
Then y'all fugged up and starting hitting that pipe again, relapsed, fired Comegy and hired OMJ
OMJ lost to Southern in 2014 and 2015

Since Bell, you're right, Southern's only 5-6 vs. JSU. However, since Robert Hughes, Southern is 8-6 vs. JSU.
But ask yourself, was the **** Error and the OMJ Error worth it in the long run?
I really hope you guys had another moment of clarity with this Tony Hughes hire
