2026 US News Best HBCUs


This isn't a slight to the SWAC, but these never surprise me just as someone that attended a SWAC school and transferred to Howard. The difference in the standards, the class work, etc was just night and day. I was in the school of business at Howard and a part of your grade was the fact that you had to wear official business attire to classes once you got into your major. Full suit, tie, shoes...and the professor checked you at the door before you entered your class to make sure you were up to standard. They didn't coddle you at all either, either you wanted to succeed or you didn't. I get wanting to give kids that may not have made it elsewhere an opportunity, but academically, there's a lot of SWAC schools that need to step up the standards.

I don't think comments legitimizing these type of ratings will ever be considered a slight because a lot of us consider them to be bull shit.
