2025 FCS playoff field

It just goes to show you that FCS championship doesn't care about making money. I mean let's be real none of those schools make money on attendance. I mean even if HBCUs get knocked out the first round those games attendance would be greater than the whole playoffs. One thing about a southern hillbilly he will ride his racist thoughts no matter how broke it makes him. An I don't care what anyone else has to say. Everything is business. Look at FBS. No matter how much the SEC sucks they will make sure at least two of those teams get in to make that revenue. If you don't agree argue with your mammy not me. Yep buffalo trace agrees with me. We having a hell of a time tonight too.

So, if you weren't in the top 16 you're out... without an automatic bid?

Unlike FBS football (and every other D1 sport), the conference winners (outside of the SWAC and MEAC) get auto bids.

11 auto bids and 5 at large bids (there are 2 bids that go to conference alliances to help each conference get 8 conference games (something the MEAC should do))

I think the reason the MEAC does not do a conference alliance is because of the Celebration Bowl, as there is a chance the winner of the conference alliance could be a MEAC school and the MEAC conference champions, who would be required by contract to go to the Celebration Bowl.

If the OVC ever gets back up to 8 football schools, then it would make sense for the MEAC to do a conference alliance with the Big South, who only has two football schools.

I think the other reason, they don't do a conference alliance, is because MEAC schools have develop their plans for out of conference scheduling, which would be 7 games out of a 12 game schedule. NCCU for example will always play A&T, so that bring them down to needing to schedule six and that number drops to five on the years they place in the SWAC\MEAC Challenge. Then, NCCU, under Coach Oliver, likes to play a FBS game, so that takes you down to four and then that number goes down with NCCU playing a in state D2.

Given that NCAA weakness to lawsuits these days, I could see the MEAC putting together a unique scheduling plan that could give them a autobid for the 2nd place MEAC team provided the NCAA approves it.

It's actually 24 spots. I remembered last year the top 8 seeds getting byes so I don't know why I forgot that when I made this post

Saw on Facebook how the MVFC got 5 bids

I am surprise Harvard got in, as a at large bid, given they lost to Yale in the ivy league championship game.

Harvard got beaten 52-7, but Bama State...... I only have a passing interest in ratings and attendance.

Harvard vs. Vill-2125
R..I. vs. C. CONN-2680
Abilene C vs. Lamar-4588
S.D. vs Drake-3964
N.D. vs Tenn. Tech-4641
N.H. vs. S.D. State-3843
Yale vs Youngstown-4869
Illinois St. Vs. S.ELA.-3321

I'm sure the host teams lost money.

Without a doubt

They really don't start seeing big attendance numbers until the quarterfinals and semifinals

" Big" is relative but I doubt outside of the Flagship schools like Montana , Dakotas, etc.. few are getting over 10k attendance. There's a reason there's been a flood of fcs powerhouses salivating to leave for FBS.

I did not even notice the Ivy League schools in the playoffs until I noticed Yale on the schedule today. I will admit that I was not paying much attention to the Ivies this year. I wonder if their influential grads in government and business leaned on their schools to go to the playoffs. Their other sports teams go to the NCAA playoffs.

Note that Harvard's women, a 16 seed, defeated Stanford, a number one seed, in the basketball tournament. It was the first time a 16 seed won in the basketball tournament, men's or women's.

The problem for Alabama State is that they played a game on Thanksgiving weekend.
