2013 SWAC signing day SCG predictions

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

The difference is Pete had already proven himself as a winning HC. That 12 win season didn't come from nowhere - Pete had done it before. The coach you have now is a career loser.

Damn, here we go again. Dude has a 1-AA National Title ring as a NCAA assistant coach. How is he a loser his whole career? Secondly, what had Monte Coleman ever won as a coach before coming to UAPB? What had Barlow won before taking over at Bama State? There is NO COACH, and I repeat NO COACH in the SWAC that is unbeatable by anyone who has coached their first game as a Head Coach. LOL. We don't have no juggernaut of coaching in this conference so it aint hard to win it if you work hard enough. The rest of these clowns ain't no brilliant arse coaches. Big Worm is organized and he can motivate and he is not a BAD coach. He has worked with folks. Even Dabo Swinney at Clemson gave him a shot out during the Peach Bowl as a guy on the move. Stop hating on Worm and let the man do his thing. Sheesh. Hell he ain't no worse than that over rated coach JSU is overpaying for. Big Worm already done out recruited folks who in your eyes have been WINNERs all their career.

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

Bounce Back Year!

I hope so. I want Gram to be good this year as well as SU to be good. I expect Pine Bluff will be a favorite to repeat as SWAC West Champs though come pre-season picking.

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

I am trying to figure out how yall know which school have a good class and what school dont. Seems to me everyone sign roughly around 17-20 players. As a swac school, i dont understand how someone can be excited about these low teir players. I assume yall judging these kids based on there highlights. "Kinda interesting" Prolly around 8-9 players will be eligbible come fall. Some will go juco or prop.

1. That 1-AA title was won over a decade ago. Where has he coached since then and what have those teams done? If you do the research you'll find that most if not all of the teams he coached on were sorry. He doesn't come with a track record of success.

2. I asked this before and never got a straight answer: What was it about his 4-5 record that was so impressive? And if he was such a good coach, why was he your 3rd choice? If he was any good you would've named him the HC as soon as the season ended.

3. What does Dabo Swinney giving him a shot out mean exactly? James bell got shout outs from NFL coaches when he was hired - didn't mean a damn thing.

4. Reading YOUR words, it doesn't appear you are counting on Odums to be any good. Instead you're HOPING the SWAC is bad enough for him to at least compete. WOW.

That's not really the case anymore. HBCUs are doing a much better job of bringing in athletes who are qualified. And the JUCOs are doing a better job of picking off the good ones who arent.

Dude James Bell can't even keep a HS job. Odums can get hired by people quicker than him. Secondly. I saw a lot of things in his 4-5 record that is encouraging. He should have won 2-3 more of those games. The other thing is why do you think he was third choice? Looks like he was second choice because some folks did not want ole boy at Nevada. Brian Jenkins was first choice it looks like, no secret at that. But you act like this does not happen in hiring coaches. You see at every level. For whatever reason somebody gets the job. Worm was just not the sexy choice. Don't mean he wasn't the right choice. Pete wasn't who SU folks wanted either. Actually Worm had more supporters to get the SU job than Pete did. Nobody and I mean nobody at SU wanted Pete as head coach but Dr. Spikes. Broussard likes Worm and they work well together. Sure if he got a Bigger name he would have probably pulled the trigger. But the fact remains is Worm put a solid presentation together, won over the community and looks like even HS coaches who would not even send Pete players sent some to SU in this class. I like what dude is doing. He can coach. I saw enough of that last season to see he can beat teams in the SWAC. That's what I mean about not being impressed with the other SWAC coaches to be worried that Worm can't kick their arse as a coach.

My last thing is, why are YOU so negative about SU's hire? What does it matter to you. I would be more worried about what your Coach is doing at JSU. Looked like he begged FAMU to come rescue him from you guys. I can't wait to see the EXTENSIVE coaching search JSU goes through after next season.

I know one thing. SU is going to beat JSU again this year. You guys need to figure out, will you beat SU in anything this year. Looks like we are doing a good job in hiring folks so far.

I really think Valley may be a contender this year because even though the defense may take a step back, I think our offense will be much improved over recent years.

I think Valley will be good also. I do not look forward to our trip to the Valley this season. I am actually rooting for yall in the East to make some noise.

You would know better than me. How many of the 2012 JSU recruiting class was on the roster this pass season? How many of them went juco after JSU sign them?

no doubt, we are one of the teams in the East that has never made it to the SCG, I think that is gone change within the next 3 years, mark my words.

So you justify the losing record by saying he could've won 2 or 3 more games? LOL By that standard he could've gone 9-0. Seriously, I don't hate SU. I was hoping you'd make a good hire, instead you went from awful to bad/mediocre. I'm just looking at his track record. Nothing about Odums say he should be the coach at a school like Southern. Most of his career has been spent as a position coach at loser schools like Clark Atlanta and NCAT. I don't even know how he became your DC to be honest.

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

No smack DGTM: Depth. That's the one thing I saw of Valley that y'all lacked besides consistency @ the QB position. Ground game, y'all had that. Defense, y'all had that. Depth? No sir. I'm not so sure if it's a good thing for starters on defense to be giving their all from start to end, for the most part (the DL guys since they push so much every play).

Also, it was a GREAT thing that Valley kicked PV's behind. PV fans, some, are so delusional and are accustomed to losing until MOST of them didn't even notice. At this juncture, considering Valley doesn't offer as many full-rides as other FCS schools in conference, y'all are champions working overtime w/ what you all have available.

Ok, you know it all. Odums was a bad hire. He will not win at SU. His track record proves he will be a failure. Surely he learned nothing about winning because non of his teams he ever coached or played for won isht. All winning coaches at the FCS level have track records of being on winning teams as assistants before ever getting a job and when they did, they won. If they didn't they loss. I am sure that is the case. You have to have won as an assistant to be any good as a head coach.

Surely it ain't no way Odums can win the SWAC. It ain't possible. I think I will send this post to ole Big Worm to motivate him even more.

Bell didn't get much right at jsu. But, oft times it looks like he got the 90% of jsu people not knowing football right. But then again, even a broken clock is right at least once a day.

Depth will always be an issue, but just improving simple things like stop making mental mistakes and consistent qb play will alleviate a lot of problems. Your defensive depth won't be as exposed if you can get first downs and make sustained drives. That one simple thing is what has killed us for years. I think we have finally found our quarterback of the future. I expect him to redshirt to get in the weightroom and learn the playbook, but after that, the sky is the limit. The kid is smart, athletic, and has a good arm.

I hadn't checked Valley's TOP on O fall 2012 but if the D was out a lot more than the O, that's troubling. I saw it in the game vs SU how the defense had to constantly bail the offense out. Another thing is if the offense scores too quickly, that too could spell doom and gloom for the D (getting tired).

Yeah but you have to play to the strengths of your team, and this year we happen to have a group of receivers and backs that will make this offense explosive, and they will have to be since we will be breaking in a lot of talented, but new players on defense.

Tweed. Leave him be. He thinks Odums did not learn anything under Shine Wyatt because BCU was 17-14 during the 3 (05-08) years he was there. Although Shine is the reason why BCU is successful right now. He turned them from nothing to be MEAC Champs. Just got stubborn his last 3 years with that Wyatt Bone and not having a QB to run that offense. Brian Jenkins didn't inherit a bad program like Shine did.

He also discounts his stint at Ga Southern where they won a National title as he was the LB coach and DEs Coach. I guess because he left Ga Southern and went with GSU legend Tracy Ham to join him at Clark Atlanta when they hired Ham as head coach and Odums as the DC is where he has his heartburn. Maybe both were not ready for those roles just yet in the early 2000s. Ham gets fired and Worm takes over as interim before heading on to BCU the next season.

Worm is a 97 NCC grad so he was really young then. Then the whole NC A&T gig as DL coach then DC before coming to SU didn't work with Fobbs then Alonzo Lee as Head Coaches. There are a lot of assistants in HBCU land especially who have coached for some bad Head Coaches but they are good coaches themselves if given a chance. Then some of these so called good assistant coaches have left our programs and flopped as Head Coaches, because they were under a good Head Coach who won or had other assistants that made them look good. We see that happening right now. Heish was under Doug twice(Morehouse/Gram), played for Pete title teams, and was under Frazier, but yet he is 15-18 right now as the PV head coach. Heck Monte Coleman was a full time minister before getting to UAPB as an assistant and then replacing their fired Head Coach as the man later on. According to J99, you would have predicted doom for him instead of him wining the SCG. Since he didn't have the luxury of coaching under so called winners.

Me being a Graduate of JSU. i dont see no coach running the program in the ground the way Bell did back in 03-05 years.

Trust me. I understand. JSU had tremendous talent when Bell took over. I think his issue was he tried to over coach everything and had a superiority complex that he was smarter and better than coaches in the SWAC. Just seemed very arrogant and did not try to endear himself to the JSU folks. I don't think he realized how good of job he had gotten when JSU hired him. You can win at JSU if you just work hard and put a good coaching staff together. Folks will help succeed there if you know what you are doing.

Excellent and on-point post. And to answer the last point, I know why he became coach. An incompetent and inexperienced Broussard.
