2011-12 FBS Bowl Season

Well, the SEC is definitely not to blame for the system. They even were pushing a playoff or plus one system. I still think that the BCS is much better than the old bowl system where the top 2 teams wouldn't even play against each other due to them trying to stick to traditional matchups. Just look back to 1997 when Michigan and Nebraska both ended up tieing for the national title because they weren't matched up against each other. Instead of having Michigan vs. Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, they had to honor the Pac-10-Big Ten Rose Bowl and have Michigan play Washington State, leaving Nebraska to play overrated Tennessee.

Exactly. Gone be interesting to see what happens when the coaching starts dropping. Look at Tenn. Muschamp going to be a bust at Florida. Mack Brown was already going to let him go. Right now Saban and Miles are best coaches. Petrino ain't going to win with all that passing. Spurrier is at the end of his career. Richt is one more underachieving season from being fired. Which is probably next year since they will be ranked high to start the season.

Bobby Petrino would have had a strong running game this season, but Knile Smith got injured before the season started. That pretty much scrapped their run game. Give him a strong defense, and they will be scary. Spurrier might be at the end of his career, but next season his team is going to be a beast with an experienced Conner Shaw and healthy Lattimore.

I agree about Muschamp. I don't know what Jeremy Foley was thinking. Of all the coaches we could have lured to Florida, he chooses him. I still don't understand why he didn't aggressively persue Gary Patterson. I also think he wasted a lot of money on getting Charlie Weis. He needed to get an energetic, healthy OC. Kind of hard to get on players about conditioninig when you are 200 lbs. overweight.

Not just any BCS school either, he passed on some top-level jobs.

Why would he leave a almost for sure top 5-10 program in Boise State to go to a pressure cooker BCS job like UCLA in which he would always be second fiddle in his own home city?

At Boise, they get screwed over for the BCS title shot but they are in the BCS convo every year as a non-AQ school. That's as good as it gets.

Just look at Pat Hill at Fresno State. At one point, he had them as the model for a non-AQ school. They played a tough OOC, and even took some of USC's best teams down to the wire. Fresno was rolling and he was offered several top notch jobs, but passed on them to stay at Fresno. They fired him this season. Chris Peterson might want to leave while the getting is good, because I don't see Boise State sustaining their success. Some schools you can stay at and coach for your entire career, while some you have to leave before people get too spoiled at your success. How many times have we seen an upstart coach build a solid mid-major program, refuse to leave for the bigger jobs due to a sense of loyalty, only to eventually get fired because of a few sub-par seasons?

Well Boise State hasn't gone worse than 8-4 since 1998. That sounds like a pretty good run to me. Pat Hill had a good run, but he never achieved the level of success Petersen has had at Boise State. I can definitely understand why he stays. It's not like he's making chump change at Boise State, considering he's up over 1.5 million a year, without all the pressure that goes into coaching at a football power.

The pressure is going to start coming once they slip up and have that 2 or 3 loss season. Pat Hill didn't reach Boise State level because he would play 4 BCS quality OOC opponents.
