2010 JSU recruiting

All that talk and only 1 Mississippi player.
NON FROM THE JACKSON METRO. :smh:
Must say Taurice King is a very good shock and surprise.
He wanted to stay in state and we beat out Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech for him.
Figured he was FBS bound being the 25 rated LB in the country and 3 star recruit by rivals.

No reason we should not have more instate players like this.
The big three can't sign them all.

2010 commitments ......... Kareem Copeland
.

I have been able to personally confirm these 10 over the last couple days:

Taurice King Yazoo City LB 6-2 229
Torrey Harkness Los Angeles Soutwest JC QB 5-11 186
Thurman Byrd Seminole (Fla.) HS DT 6-2 263
William Gholston Murphy (Ala.) HS WR 6-3 185
Michael Perkins Valparaiso (Ind.) HS ATH 5-11 185
B.J. Lee SMU (enrolled) RB 5-5 175
Arian McCree Chester (S.C.) HS LB 6-1 220
Tommy Gooden Douglass (Atlanta) HS RB 5-10 205
Chris Gilzeane Stone Mountain (Ga.) HS LB 5-11 225
Kadeem Taylor Carroll (La.) HS DE 6-4 270
Carlos Williams American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) HS LB 6-0 235

Looks like a good pickup with the King kid. You think his grades had anything to do with him going to FCS ball? Just asking.

Comegy got another dual threat Qb coming in the kid from JC. Can you say Jimmy Oliver?

BJ Lee is 5'5 175? Comegy likes those short backs don't he. Is Dorzan still there for next season?

BTW Frat,
You posted this thread on the wrong board. LOL.

DE Thurman Byrd and WR William Golston commit to JSU

"(JSU is) just family oriented, and I really like how everybody was close over there," Golston said. "I'm a speedster. I'm really versatile. I really like to jump for the ball; I'm aggressive. I don't like letting just one person take me down."
The education program also attracted Golston to JSU, in addition to the campus and Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
"(Campus) is bigger than I imagined," Golston said. "And I fell in love with the stadium."

Naw.
He got a 3.0.
He just really wanted to stay instate and play ball.

BTW:
Didn't even notice I was in the media room.

Re: 2010 JSU recruiting & news.

Oh no... don't yall start getting those good linebackers again! Man it used to be almost criminal how JSU used to stay so well-stocked in Linebackers. I keep worring that yall gonna get another Robert Brazile!!! :scared:

That would be nice. :D
I would do backflips for another Andre Loyd or Darrion Conners.
I'll even take a "Mad Dog" Jackie Walker right now.

Re: 2010 JSU recruiting & news.

Whats up with all these lil arse RB's.:retard:
B.J. Lee SMU (enrolled) RB 5-5 175

Re: 2010 JSU recruiting & news.

Gotta give JSU credit for those LB's of the past. They were something else .... :shame:

If y'all run the spread, this kid could be your "Ryan Lewis". I guess the key is having a nice blend of scats and bulldozers.

Yall are fine at LB. Isn't Ryan Rich #14 back for next season? I thought that kid was a player. Great range at LB.

He was recruited to SMU for speed. :read: When what's his name txferred from UofMiami to SMU (guy from Madisonville, McZeal I think), that put a damper on his rotating into either the starting lineup or actually getting playing time.

I was hoping we would've locked him up, to be honest. :read: Good catch.

I remember seeing Jackie Walker in high school (Carroll of Monroe) and because of his height and all, he looked uncoordinated. I said "Naw, we don't need him". Dude went to JSTATE and was wreaking shop.

Modern Day, the best I saw at JSU was Tommy Head in the mid to late 90's. I thought he was gonna make it at the next level because of his range and hitting.

Re: 2010 JSU recruiting & news.

Now those were the real Darkside defenses!

Who was the position coach for yall back then? Was it Big Daddy Carson? I think he had a clone machine that he didn't tell folks about... those kids were big, could run, and played like they were pissed off at the world.

Re: 2010 JSU recruiting & news.

The SEC schools dropped the King kid from their lists - mainly because of grades. He only scored a 15 and 14 on his ACT attempts. If he qualifies he'll be a good player for us.

Right, if he doesn't qualify then he will be at HolmesCC :shame:

I don't remember who coached LBs, but a recall of the staff as I remember from those days had W.C., Houston Markham (OC), Big Daddy (DC), Cardell Jones, Melvin Peete and Hughes as position coaches. That's why we got so used to kicking ass. Our staff couldn't be touched, until schools started hiring them away.

Robber,

We had a good staff but I don't think it really mattered. Our talent level was just head and shoulders above everyone else. I could have coached the LBs back then.

Hold up now... yall had talent but so did Gram. Remember I started this referencing Brazille who played in the 70's. We won that decade...tied with yall during the 80's so it ain't like it was all JSU, far from it. However, that corp of linebackers during Gordon and Carson were really good players.

*ram had some players too but for the most part, we were the only two teams with some ballers consistently. I think the coaching in that era may have been over-rated.

After seeing the list of kids that the committed, i dont see not one Offensive Lineman. Lets Get some O-Lineman Coach Comegy

I agree. You should always sign at least 2-3 of those. However, I won't say that they are a priority. We had two coaching weaknesses last year... OC and o-line coach. Either it was all coaching or a mix of coaching and lack of talent. We shall see. Our biggest problem on the line over the last two years was our inability to name 5 starters and sticking with those 5. We changed our starting o-line every other week. You can't get any chemistry going like that.
