2004 Tentative SWAC Football Schedules

I can only imagine that AAMU's will shape up like this:

August 28
Jacksonville St. Away *(J'ville or B'ham)

September 4
Tennessee St. Nashville

September 11
Grambling St. Huntsville

September 18
Miss. Valley St. Huntsville

September 25
Texas Southern Houston

October 2
*Southern Huntsville

October 9
*Prairie View A&M Huntsville

October 16
TBD

October 23
Alabama State Birmingham (63rd MCC)

October 30
Open

November 6
Jackson St. Jackson, MS

November 13
Alcorn State Huntsville

November 20
Ark. Pine Bluff Pine Bluff, AR

There has been discussion with AD Jim Martin about moving the Ark. Pine Bluff game to September, to be played in the Gateway Classic in St. Louis. If that happens, there could possibly be another intra-conference game on the schedule.

*October 2 and 9 opponents may be reversed.

All you need to know about us....

The other 9 SWAC schools plus two high school teams (at their stadium).

Ours will be almost like TSU's, except we will only play 8 SWAC schools and 3 other teams. We are still out of the rotation for JSU because the mandate doesn't take effect until the 2005 season and JSU will not replace one of their non-conferance games with us.

I can almost imagine it will be similar to what we had this year with everything starting a week later w/ the way the calender falls. Just reverse the Swac games as they are referenced for home/away.

There was also some talk about moving the Grambling game to Birmingham nest year as well.

Why would AAMU move the Grambling game to Birmingham? Grambling doesn't even bring their band. Someone please tell the AD to try to add a MEAC school to the schedule next year. I would love to see a AAMU v. South Carolina State or BCC matchup.

Unfortunately that's not going to happen anytime soon. Unless something drastic happens. For the past few years we have been close to terms with FAMU, but it always fell through because of disagreements. Not to mention we will play 11 games next year and 9 of those being SWAC games, our schedule is locked possibly for 2 years. We are in contractual agreement with Jacksonville St. for 2 more years, and replacing TnSU should not be an option. Our best chances was this year and last with the 12th game option.

Alcorn's schedule is locked up for next year with the nine SWAC teams and non-conference games against Delta State and at SE Louisiana.

AD Martin stated plenty of times that he more than likely would break the contract with Jacksonville because we always set attendence records everytime we go to JSU but they dont never bring no fans here...So we may be playing another school in there place... also I dont think we are playin Savannah State again, so that is another opening.

The Savannah St. game was a Classic. It was just a one year deal. We can only play 2 out of conference games next year, because 11 games will be the maximum allowed. That leaves TnSU and Jaxville St., but like I said unless something drastic happens (breaks contract) then our schedule is set for 1-2 more years. That's what I was saying.

That would be a smart move on your AD's part to cancel the series with J'ville State. If you keep playing them you will have the same schedule every year, and no one outside of the SWAC will ever give you any recognition as being the football power that you claim to be.

BAMA STATE AND SOUTHERN OPEN UP THE SEASON IN DETROIT FOR THE 2ND ANNUAL DETROIT FOOTBALL CLASSIC. THAT'S ALL I HAVE RIGHT NOW....

Does that mean JSU is going to be in the GCC?

Jacksonville State is the OVC Champs.

The OVC champion gets an AUTOMATIC bid to the playoffs.

The OVC gets more recognition from the "outside" than does the SWAC.

That is all.

Why play them if the only thing you get from them is a loss every year. They beat you when they are having a bad year. With the number of SWAC games that we have to play there is very little freedom in scheduling different schools. If I were you I would try to hold on to the Tenn State game and drop J'ville State. Since it is usually an early season game for you it would be easier to work in another non-conference opponent or perhaps one of the larger classics. I read in another post where a number of A&M posters were complaining about being placed so low in the polls. This may be because of who you are playing. I for one don't believe that the powers of the MEAC can compete with the powers of the SWAC but until you start scheduleing them and beating them you will always be ranked below them.

Oct 2, 2003

Alabama A&M University vs. Southern University - 3pm, Huntsville

HOMECOMING :)

Also there is a possibility that AAMU will be playing UAPB in the Gateway Classic in St. Louis. Both schools have strong alumni bases in the area....so there is a good chance this matchup will occur:D

Why would y'all do this??? Homecoming automatically pulls a crowd. Why not ensure 2 good crowds???

You got your TSU's mixed up, because 9/4 is when PV & TxSu play eachother.

Just look at your prvious schedules, you always played TxSu on the 3rd sat in Sept and most Swac games don't change dates that drastically.

Homecoming is usually around the same weekend every year.... which is before Magic City Classic... this is the only game scheduled around that time, anything else would be too early in the season or too late in the season.
