SWAC football to stop playing below D-2 teams in 2027

Listen up maggots! And that's an order!
McClelland’s comments came while being interviewed during Wednesday’s SWAC TV stream of the SWAC golf championship’s final round.

“No longer are we going to play games that don’t count,” McClelland said. “The membership came together and decided that that was going to be the best thing in order for us to be able to grow and move forward. So, as we have more competitive games, it’s going to shift schools’ thought process. We’re not going to be able to go play teams that are not within the structure of which it should be.”

Not good for my TSU, our admin and regents aren't remotely serious enough about football for that move to work to our advantage.

Congratulations to the rest of the conference though.
So, are you saying that TSU can't beat the SWAC schools, but can beat the lower level schools? Does that mean that you all should drop down to D2, as Get Ready would say? Just a question. I know TSU is not that bad.

I'm being brutally honest about our admin and regents. Absent any luck, a school's decision makers have to be serious about football to win championships.

The combined legit football record over the last twenty-five years speaks for itself, only one winning season with a record of 6-5. Without those below D2 teams there is no winning record. Results like ours happen at schools where the admin and regents don't care about football.

C'mon now. The way sTu tosses scrilla' at head football coaches and staff is amazing to witness. Have the money, obviously.

the biggest issue is regents (when you have athletic friendly ones) and presidents don't have the longevity to make major changes - when you start getting momentum then the people in the room change and your back at square one unfortunately - when you had alignment between the two (McClelland-Rudley era) the Dynamo Stadium was put in front of them and that basically took everything that could've went towards campus to that situation

We have to share dna somewhere. I stopped boycotting HC'ing in 2024, when we barely got past east txa&m univ. I only attended last fall because you know who was more excited about HC'ing than I could ever pretend to be + the new engineering building activities seduced me.
