Homecoming Rankings--AAMU No. 1

I do have to admit I went to A&M's Homecoming this year. Primarily because three of my daughters live in Huntsville. And, I've been to Alabama State's homecoming. They were both enormously better than what I was used to at TSU.

Homecoming is most fun for alumni and locals, so everyone will be biased. Every year Tuskegee claims they are the top, GHOE etc. But its all subjective. Take JSU where there is a block party on Thursday, Day Parties all over the metro on Friday, and a yard fest. The tailgate area is filled, with overflow at the farmers market, and folks tailgating near the Milsaps area. The sheer number of folks in one area is crazy. But to an outsider who doesn't know anyone or have ties to the school, it could all still be blah!! Oh yeah, the after-game parties and alumni events ,with Brunch on Sunday before you head home.

This is one thing i will give Howard. It prob the best homecoming for none-alumni.

Of course, Tuskegee is my other school and yes I will be subjective and say it is very much worth it's rep. Has been for years...

I've shared in this forum before with attending a JSU Homecoming back in mid-90s and how impressed I was. Yes, that was when I first learned that fanwise, you guys don't play around.

However, AAMU's Homecoming in 2024, really took me by surprise. Up until then, yes there have been so many nice festive games that I've been a part of, but my hometown and grad school had never been on that level on campus. I was very proud and felt like a different energy had taken over and AAMU had finally tapped in to the potential that it always had.

Its because Nick Saban left.

I believe Alabama is winning this year. The people at A&M's homecoming are there because they want to be there. The homecomings here are getting bigger by the year. A&M has put a lot of resources and effort into creating this atmosphere. The AD and his director of fan engagement went to a lot of events to get an understanding of how to make events exciting for the fans and came away with a lot of ideas. Those ideas will lead to additional engagements that be implemented in the future.

I beginning to believe you have an obsession with Nick Saban or Alabama. Maybe it is because both used to kick Ole Miss so often and so hard.

Most black people from Mississippi hate Ole Miss lol. I personally had a lot of fun on Ole Miss campus.

AAMU has definitely found a way to attract black middle class kids.

The growth of the city and good jobs as federal employees and private contractors has helped a lot. If AAMU continues to tap into this demographic, it will help drive increased enrollment.

I dont know what it's like now, but that Homecoming when I was at Howard was just on a different level than the rest lol. Now, there are games that have a bigger atmosphere like the big classics, but just as far as homecoming goes it was a distant number one. My dorm was off campus (if you've never been there, there are 2 dorms a few blocks away in the middle of a neighborhood) and there were so many people that we had to walk all the way up that long ass hill because the shuttles couldn't even get through. Traffic on Georgia Ave was so thick people were just parking in the street.
