PVAMU Breaks Enrollment Record

Students applying to Prairie View A&M University will face tougher admissions standards for the 2026-27 school year after a vote from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Thursday.
The changes stem from continued growth at the university in Waller County, about 40 miles northwest of Houston. Prairie View enrolled roughly 2,300 freshmen last fall, its largest ever first-year class. Another 600 students were on a wait list but unable to be accommodated, university President Tomikia P. LeGrande said.

This is a problem, interest rates are VERY HIGH and its going to get worse if TACO continues on his path.
True, but the TAMU System isn't hurting for money. They, along with the UT System, exclusively receive funds from oil, gas and grazing leases from 2.1 million acres of land in west Texas.

This is true.

I have not seen the latest numbers, but the TAMU and UT systems have been two of the richest university systems (top 10) in the country.

The feedback swirling the market right now is that a lot of MF developers are pencils down on doing deals.

The only saving grace around PV/Waller area is that dirt is still relatively so cheap they can weather the storm on interest rates for now.

Is the TAMU system going to loan / give money to PVAMU for new dorms?

Its not just borrowing costs, it the cost of materials and finding labor.

Prairie View don't build dorms on campus anymore. They contract out with a outside vendor to build housing and operate them with their own financing on campus.

The cost is irrelevant. The pool of money I mentioned currently sits at 36 billion plus and exclusively funds the UT System and TAMU System an additional 1.8 billion at a 2/3 to 1/3 split between the two.

It is a questionable if, but if the new chancellor of the TAMU System is as decent a human being as the past chancellor PV will continue to advance.

Totally expecting PV to make a big jump across the board in this next decade.

Similar kind of jump NCAT has made.

President Legrande was at NCA&T during some of that growth.
🎯 I think that’s a huge point that a lot of folks are missing!

We got the whole playbook not only from NCAT but from VCU as well. Enrollment growth is her value add to the presidency and I am fully expecting to see PV become the largest version of itself we have ever seen.

Congratulations... Love to see this enrollment growth for HBCUs!

Hopefully the TAMU system don't slow the growth by raising the admission requirements too much.

The slow enrollment growth got President Wright fired.

That wasn't it
