Trinity Rodman opens up about relationship with father Dennis: 'He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else'

When Trinity Rodman broke into NWSL stardom, the first thing many people learned about her was her status as the daughter of mercurial NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman.

The child of a sporting great becoming a star is not an uncommon story in America. It usually features a naturally gifted child, allowed to blossom from a young age, with parents providing support at every stage. What was always made clear about Trinity Rodman, however, was that Dennis had very little to do with her greatness.

In public, Trinity would credit mother Michelle Moyer as her role model. Dennis and Moyer divorced in 2012, when Trinity was approximately 10 years old. Trinity's relationship with Dennis was always described as complicated, at best, with father enjoying a lifestyle hardly conducive to child-rearing and daughter experiencing long stretches without speaking to her father.

Could there be two sides to this story??

Dennis Rodman Apologizes to Daughter Trinity After She Says He's Only Her Dad 'by Blood

Dennis Rodman issued a public apology to his estranged daughter Trinity Rodman after the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team star opened up about their relationship this week, saying her NBA father is “not a dad” and that his relationship with her is “by blood but nothing else.”

The elder Rodman, who played 14 seasons in the NBA, posted a lengthy apology on Instagram late Wednesday night, writing to Trinity: “Sorry I wasn’t the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried and I still try and never will stop.”

“I will keep trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls,” the NBA Hall of Famer continued in the message to his daughter. “I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time. I’m always here and tell you all the time rather it’s your voice or voicemail how proud I am. I always had one wish and it was I wish my kids would call me and come see me. Hopefully one day I can get that.”

Two sides yall.

Two sides yall.
This. Why trash this guy publicy when we all know Rodman is probably not quite all there. Why not question the mother who I doubt falls in love with this brother & turns his daughter against him if he were a regular Joe & not worth million$$$.

Her mother has drained the man emotionally & financially, used this child to punish him & now the adult daughter appears to be using his name & bashing him for more attention. What's the endgame dragging your business in public like this?

I remember Dennis crying during an interview when Trinity was brought up and the SI feature when he said his ex-wife wouldn’t let him see her.

Knowing what we know now about Dennis’ upbringing, it’s kinda safe to say he lacked the tools to properly emote and reach out.

Didn’t his ex cheat on him and he was in the Palace’s parking lot talking about ending himself?

Two sides my ass. Dennis has admitted on multiple occasions that the reason he doesn't have a relationship with his children is because he doesn't know how to be a father. he said that since he doesn't know how to be a father he isn't interested in trying to be a father. he said that he knows that his perspective on the father thing is wrong and it's something that he needs to improve. Dennis knows his shortcomings and he's accepted that things will be just the way they are between him and his children.

I'm about to tell yall like it is. You may not like the truth but as usual I don't sugar coat it. In American society men just provide the nut. The momma provides the molding. There is a reason why these two sayings go hand in hand the old folks use to say. They may not have had the education we have in society today but the wisdom they had was greater than we will ever have. A.) Momma's baby, father's maybe. B.) be careful who you lay down with because the fleas will come up with you. Take it how you wanna but prove me wrong......

Two sides to every story, yall. Take it or leave it.

Correct we don't know how much mom stood in the way or the courts.

Along with the daughter making the choice to just move on for now.

We have to understand the media has ZERO issue making sure a child bash the father. Who might not be around. Rarely is it the other way around.

We got mothers who have been all levels of toxic between a child and the father. It's like pulling teeth to get the truth.

Both of them should have adhered to this one. Maybe this is that 3rd side that @dezjaguar is talking about. 🤣
