University of West Georgia Athletics to Transition to NCAA Division I

If anyone wants to move up they better do it with the next to 2 to 3 years before the new rules take effect, as the NCAA new rules puts an expensive price tag on moving up, a 500,000 fee compared to 5 million just for the fee but the schools still have to cover the additional scholarships and sports to be at the FBS level. The Power 4 conferences already feel that FBS has been watered down too much with subpar schools. The other issue it looks like the P4 conferences in football are looking to renegotiated the payout that all the FBS schools receive from the college football playoff media rights deal. Being a FBS program might not offer all the benefits that it once did and could put schools in a hole rather than add revenue to the school (remember school that move up can not go to a bowl game during the transitions period which i believe is 3 to 4 years).

Valdosta St should have made the move long ago.
They didn't really have much reason to like most of the Gulf South schools. It's just becoming apparent that the door on changing levels is about to get clamped down so everyone that has even a slight inkling that it makes sense to move.. it's mostly now or not for a long time, if ever. The interesting thing is the fact that I'm pretty sure that conference is shooting for FBS at some point. Would be interesting to see how receptive Georgia Southern will be having another school to recruit against in their neck of the woods. West Georgia is only about 20 minutes from me.. might catch a few of their games if they have a decent schedule. Valdosta, ain't been that way in probably 20 years.

Two of college football's mid-major conferences will be joining forces ahead of the 2023 season. The Atlantic Sun Conference and the Western Athletic Conference are officially merging for football and will be known as the United Athletic Conference.
I thought that the NCAA rejected them twice, two years in a row, from forming the conference that is officially recognized as a football only conference. From the NCAA perspective they are still two separate conferences with a schedule alliance regardless if they made all the necessary steps to operating as a standalone conference.

My Nephew and nephew in law both played for UWG. Neice graduated from there. They're excited to move from the DII.
